  1. Theological beliefs are not statements of opinion, they are statements of fact. Existence is not an opinion, it is a fact. How do you define "existence"? Here are some common definitions: -- the fact or state of living or having objective reality -- the state or fact of having being especially independently of human consciousness Do you believe a deity conforms to objective reality? Do you think reality is subjective? If you agree that reality is objective, then a statement of theological opinion would instead be "I wish for a deity to exist", rather than "a deity exists".
  2. Petitioning is the free market at work. It is a way to peacefully advocate change. The act of asking removes no one's rights, guns remove rights and no guns are involved here. We're not asking the government to shoot people who disagree with us, we're asking a voluntary business to not voluntarily associate with child abuse. Voluntary association is the free market. We also have the option of asking Amazon to not promote/associate with child abuse. There's nothing wrong with that. Petitioning for the removal of one child abuse book does not mean one is obligated to petition all child abuse books.
  3. Stef on animal rights: My notes on the video: The NAP requires an understanding or the potential for understanding the NAP. You cannot be bound by something that you do not understand. That’s why a person with an I.Q. of 30 is not criminally responsible for aggressive actions. Animals cannot understand philosophy or NAP, so they are not covered by morality. That doesn’t mean we shouldn’t be as kind to them as possible. The best way to ensure that people are kind to animals is to treat people well as children. It is well known that child abuse is heavily associated with cruelty to animals. But we are so ridiculously short of compassion towards children, prisoners, victims of war, kids in public schools, intergenerational state debt … we are so short of compassion for our fellow human beings who are bound by the NAP that to overleap the need for compassion to other human beings and hope to achieve it somehow vis-a-vis animals before human beings is to put the cart before the horse. Compassion towards children will flow into compassion towards others will flow into compassion towards animals. The sequence has to be children -> adults -> animals. Trying to overleap this will not work.

    Howdy

Neat! Welcome back. How did you first find Stef? I'm quite late to the party, by comparison
  6. I don't think you're an outcast. People who don't want to acknoledge difficult facts and subjects likely try to outcast you so that they do not have to face difficult situations. Stef talks about this much in his early podcasts - people would not even acknowledge his situation likely because it made them uncomfortable and they'd rather pretend it didn't exist, or that he - a helpless child - was the problem rather than the parents. I'm very sorry to hear that your family was like that, no one deserves such treatment. You said you feel ashamed for your familial situation. Do you feel that you had a part in causing it? It doesn't sound like you did. Your written English is as good as a native speaker. Welcome to the boards. How did you find Freedomain Radio?
  7. That took an extreme amount of courage, Parker. I've done the same thing and let me say: it only gets better from here - that might be the most difficult thing you'll ever do in your life. Good on you for rejecting corruption from your life! Your actions give me hope for the future and for rejecting corruption.
  8. Slight deviation from the topic about single motherhood: I recently listened to Stef's podcast #616 "Coincidence and Love Part 2" and I think it really clarifies his points about previous abusive relationships - specifically, starting at 00:24:25. It was very enlightening for me, it might be worthwhile for you.
  9. Thank you for your podcast, I've listened to each one.
  10. Congratulations and welcome!
  11. Get well Stef! The cheese is in the bag!

  14. http://www.wired.com/threatlevel/2013/04/4chan-mall-shooter/?ed=5aH The man arrested today in connection to the shooting of two women at a suburban Virginia mall may have announced his crime minutes in advance on the 4chan message board. “Sure op. show us what you look like? Name? Address?” an anonymous poster replied 5 minutes after the posting. Minutes later, another anonymous poster chimed in: “guys…this is going on right now.” The alleged shooter identified himself on the troublemaking /b/ board on 4chan as Neil Macinnis “and I go to new river community college in Christiansburg Virginia,” he said. The man provided his contact information with his posting. The shootings occurred at a mall in the town of about 21,000 in southwestern Virginia. The two victims were rushed to a local hospital. Their condition was not immediately known. Police were called about 2 p.m. when somebody reported a man with a gun at the community college’s satellite location in the mall. “I”m a bit nervous because I’ve never really handled a shotgun but a few times with the Christiansburg police,” the alleged gunman wrote, adding: “I’m at school writing this.” About eight minutes after the initial posting, an anonymous poster on the 4chan message board typed: “Shots fired.” Another promptly replied: “I can’t believe this is fucking real…wtf.” A little later on, somebody else wrote: “IT”S HPPAENINGIT”S HPPAENINGIT”S HPPAENNING.” The message later dropped from 4chan. A reliable source took the below screenshot of the thread while it was still live. It is NSFW. With reporting by Laura Hudson

  17. GoldMoney introduces small bar ownership registration and delivery - 100g gold bars (~5,113 USD), 1 kilo silver bars (~926 USD). Previously, segregated storage was not available. Segregated storage means individually owned bars, as opposed to allocated but unsegregated storage, which is partial ownership of a collection of metal. Unallocated means that the metal is fractionally reserved, or lent out. Delivery was always available for very large LBMA good delivery bars (400 oz gold, 1,000 oz silver) and the smaller 100g gold bars, but the option for 1 kilo silver bars is new. http://www.goldmoney.com/lower-fees-overview
  18. The best media I've consumed by far with regards to politics and philosophy have been the FDR podcasts. I'm listening to each one in sequence, starting with #1 and I'm now in the low 500s. I've had very many that were so mentally stimulating, I had to sit down, pause the podcast, and think about my life. I would then take notes, rewind, and play again. How have you liked the FDR content thus far?
  19. I forgot to say: welcome to the board! What's your background with peaceful parenting? Is it something you had in mind before you found FDR, or is it something that FDR brought to light for you?
  20. Great coincidence! I'm listeng to FDR podcast 506 right now, which is a Sunday call-in show where these ideas are discussed. I give it a strong recommendation, I'm finding it one of my favorite podcasts of the 505.5 to which I've listened.
