I'm still reviewing this myself. VIA MAT is one of the largest PM storage companies, IIRC. This does not bode well for the long-term future of our ability to store PMs offshore. Here is a list of storage companies that GoldMoney uses: http://www.goldmoney.com/partners.html Here is a Singaporean storage company that seems good: https://www.silverbullion.com.sg/default.aspx There are a few options for companies not based in the US and that store outside of the US. The ones I know of are: 1) GoldMoney (allocated, but not segregated storage) 2) Silver Bullion Singapore (segregated) 3) Global Gold (Segregated, Min Purchase = 50,000 Swiss Francs) 4) Gold Switzerland (Segregated, Min Purchase = 250,000 Swiss Francs) 5) Kitco's Canadian Allocated Storage Program (segregated)

http://www.goldmoney.com/faq/are-us-residents-allowed-to-hold-metal-with-goldmoney-at-via-mat-vaults.html?gmrefcode=gata Dear Sirs As you are aware VIA MAT INTERNATIONAL has been providing a service for the storageof bullion items at its vault not only to institutions like yourselves but also to privatecustomers. We would like to thank you for the confidence and trust you have placed in thisservice. We are currently experiencing rapid and substantial changes in the general regulations withinthis business. These changes mainly relate to the tax structures and taxation systems ofvarious countries. As a consequence of these changes VIA MAT INTERNATIONAL has taken the decision tostop offering this service at its vault outside of the US to private customers with potential UStax-liability. This will come into effect by mid 2013.

Why are scandinavian countries so successful
Magenta replied to Avarice567's topic in Libertarianism, Anarchism and Economics
Here is my response to every utilitarian argument for the state: Ugh, this person is saying that they support you being shot for disagreeing with them and the best response people have here is arguments of efficiency? Wake up! This person supports shooting you! There is a gun in the room. To carry on as if this is a humane conversation is to put a obfuscatory cloth of civility over the savage reality. Point out the gun in the room, this isn't a debate, this is a "fuck you" statement by the statist. He is communicating, "here is my opinion and I'll shoot you if you disagree, what do you think about that?" "Fuck efficiency, fuck polite discourse, you are proposing me being shot. Do you realize this? I'm not going to pretend to have a friendly chat with someone who supports killing me. I support your right to support (and therefore fund) welfare/nasa/whatever, do you support my right to NOT support (and therefore fund) welfare/nasa/whatever? Because if it is wrong for me to violently force you NOT to support it, then it is equally wrong for you to force me to support it and if you don't agree with this, our "conversation" is not really a conversation at all, it's a death threat and I will not be a part of it." If an armed thug breaks into your house and starts rifling through your drawers and says he'll shoot you if you resist, are you going to sit there and say, "you know, sir, the net utility of society would actually be improved if you pursued an economic venture of a different path and here's some figures and charts I've gathered on the matter, would you like to discuss over some milk and cookies"? No, you're going to say, "GUN! HE'S GOT A GUN! Honey, call the cops, get my gun, run away, do something!" -

Chicago Police Changing Response Plan For Some 911 Calls
Magenta replied to Alan C.'s topic in Current Events
Kidnapping is only the minimum punishment - murder is always on the table, just try resisting. -

I don't understand how you can reach a conclusion on something as complex as child-rearing if the basics like standards for truth have not even been established. It's putting the cart before the horse, hanging the curtains before the foundation has been poured, grabbing for the leaves when the roots haven't started.

http://www.goldmoney.com/podcast/the-philosophy-of-economics-with-stefan-molyneux.html My feedback:

What a story! What were your primary early influences? I am considering moving to China as well, but my #1 concern is the air pollution there. What are your thoughts here?

Welcome and thanks for sharing. If you have time, try listening to Freedomain Radio starting at the first podcast and moving forward from there. Stef goes into some really deep conversations in the early podcasts.

Jobs lost from automation?
Magenta replied to Mister Mister's topic in Libertarianism, Anarchism and Economics
From Economics in One Lesson, by Henry Hazlitt (http://mises.org/books/economics_in_one_lesson_hazlitt.pdf) CHAPTER 7 The Curse of Machinery Among the most viable of all economic delusions is the belief that machines on net balance create unemployment. Destroyed a thousand times, it has risen a thousand times out of its own ashes as hardy and vigorous as ever. Whenever there is long-continued mass unemployment, machines get the blame anew. This fallacy is still the basis of many labor union practices. The public tolerates these practices because it either believes at bottom that the unions are right, or is too confused to see just why they are wrong. The belief that machines cause unemployment, when held with any logical consistency, leads to preposterous conclusions. Not only must we be causing unemployment with every technological improvement we make today, but primitive man must have started causing it with the first efforts he made to save himself from needless toil and sweat. To go no further back, let us turn to Adam Smith’s The Wealth of Nations, published in 1776. The first chapter of this remarkable book is called “Of the Division of Labor,” and on the second page of this first chapter the author tells us that a workman unacquainted with the use of machinery employed in pin making “could scarce make one pin a day, and certainly could not make twenty,” but that with the use of this ... Couple faces fine, jail for rescuing, raising deer
Magenta replied to Alan C.'s topic in Current Events
"were charged with unlawful possession of a deer"[/font] This just makes me laugh at the sheer ridiculousness of past debates I've had with people regarding the government. Like animal rights and how the government claims to own all animals, even if they're on your property. People respond with, "no, the government just has rules about x, there's nothing there about ownership". Yes there is, there's laws on everything. There are no markets anymore, just interventions. (Great headline from this article). Others insist that I prove the existance of the laws I propose exist. With the sheer number of laws, the burden of proof should lie with he who claims there is not a law regarding something. People say don't bitch about the postal service, if the private sector could do it better, why doesn't UPS or FedEx have mailboxes or deliver messages for cheaper? Because there's laws on both of those things! Price and mailbox access. One can not look around himself and draw any conclusions regarding the free market because the market is so heavily intervened and regulated that all of the signals/feedback you get are not true! -
Mexico's economy being dependent on the US economy is also a top fear of mine, as a person seeking relocation. With the seemingly inevitable collapse of the USD, what are your plans for your economic future?
-
Hello and welcome. How do you feel about the current state of Mexico with regards to anarchism and economics and what are your future hopes/fears about Mexico? For example, I live in the U.S. and most anarchists here understand that the U.S. is printing large amounts of money, inevitably will hyperinflate their currency, has unsustainable financial obligations, and is increasingly becoming a police state and that gives some of us worry about our future economic and physical safety of living here. Do you have any similar issues in Mexico? Where would you recommend reading news and commentary about Mexico that is printed/spoken in English?
