  1. Memoirs of a Rum-Runner are the translated memoirs of a man from the 1800's that immigrated to America and made it big. He considered himself a liberal man - fairly close to libertarianism of today, and had lots to say about the politics of Mexico/USA/Spain. Lots of intrigue, and very interesting and down-to-earth point of view from centuries ago. 2. Hey edtech, tambert and all Ohio folk Anyone else interested in a meeting to get to know other philosophically-minded folks in the area? Maybe somewhere between Cincinnati/Columbus or somewhere in between if folks from Cleveland are interested?
  3. Hi Taylor. Welcome here...I'd imagine you are more welcome here than most other places. Good to hear you have someone near you to discuss philosophy with since being a truth-seeker as we all know can detonate relationships quickly and turn this into a lonely world. Feel free to share your personal story, it can be therapeutic and I think you'll feel welcome here and meet others who you can discuss many topics with.
  4. Over in Mt. Adams currently. There's someone around Cleaveland on the boards I've chatted with, but think we're few and far between around here
  5. Cincy...although not a "native"...fish out of water yeah.
  6. Saint - thanks for posting. Felt a lot of similarities to my own high school experience with what you wrote. I spent the high school years reading philosophy, the Dune series, Siddhartha, Thoreau, Emerson and others....they just let me sit in the back and read then I'd ace the tests as you said. Hope you are able to have fulfilling relationships and happiness. Thanks again for posting your story.
  7. Thanks for posting. Sorry to hear about your childhood trauma that has affected you so much, although identifying it and knowing where it comes from can be very helpful.
  8. Thanks for posting. Felt what you're saying about knowing that something was wrong, and not being able to let it go.
  9. Bert - sorry to hear about your life situation. As libertarians we are always easy to point out issues in other people's behavior and straightening ourselves out is always the hardest thing to do. I would imagine it's not pleasant for you there if you've made your conclusions known. It sounds like the longer you stay in the more it will just grind away at your integrity...we're here to help even if it's in a small way....I grew up in a military family and have a falling apart with brother who is long time in the Air Force. He understands the arguments for non violence but ignores it for the lies. I think he has to drink away the cognitive dissonance. Hope that you can make it out and not get folded back in.
  10. Good luck on the novel, have written two myself and working on a third that explores similar topics
