Has "Everything" You've Learned About Nutrition Been Wrong?
wdiaz03 replied to SeanBissell's topic in Miscellaneous
Do you care to share your opinion of Paleo, what where your results? Also I'll be interested in your typical day diet and level of activity and what effects it has on your body (Are you slimmer? muscular? etc Do you look like an Olympic swimmer, or a long distance runner?) Whats your body fat percent? or fat pinch results of at least subprailiac and abdominal areas? Thanks. -
Hi all, The other day my kid (9) was playing with his cousin (7) and I overheard him lecturing his cousin about how god didn't exists, something about, heaven not being there because after the clouds there was outer space or something. (I wonder where he get those ideas?) Anyways his cousin didn't seem to pay much attention and was just playing. I don't know how the subject came up and it was over after those few comments. I know that his cousin's mother is religious and I think they attend church on Sundays etc. I wonder what is the correct approach for kids when this subject comes up? should I tell my kid not to try to convince other children? That this subject is best discussed when he grows up and has more information on how to debate? I have heard Stefan say that telling kids that god doesn't exits is meaningless that it is better to teach them to think rationally. So I don't see the benefit of a kid telling another "god doesn't exists" "yes he does" "no he doesn't" etc. thoughts? Thanks

How to best teach the benefits of low time preference to children
wdiaz03 replied to wdiaz03's topic in Peaceful Parenting
Howdy, Yes I consider myself very active, I ask him to bike with me, play ball, etc all the time. but he just doesn't enjoy it as much, He has never been very athletic, not very flexible etc. My nephew on the other hand is like a cat, 2 years younger than mine runs laps around him and loves sports. I have signed him up at local leagues for flag football, soccer, basketball, swimming and he goes through the motions and has fun, but not like the other kids. -

If we look at this issue rationally and ask "Who benefits?" Even if the intentions of this woman is to help children, I don't think her approach will help a single child. The only person who benefits here is her, she feeds her own delusion of helping kids, regardless of the cost. This is careless at best and grandiose at worse. Like a person driving sick people to hospitals while running over people on the streets. In her mind she is helping the sick?. But since the chances of helping the kids in this case are slim to none, What type of person believes that they can write a letter and change lives in one night? Is it because leading by example is so much harder? Why not setup a neighborhood sports league, Offer lectures to neighborhood parents. Organize a picnic and show that healthy food can be tasty as well? Without the initiation of force you have to deliver your message in such a way that people find it appealing to change their minds. Not in the hostile manner in which she is doing it. Am I way off here?

Actually for me is more like a nutritional issue. I mostly eat meat, fish, eggs and plants. If there was a plant that could provide the level of protein and carbs than meat, fish and eggs can I'm all for it. I eat them for the protein and the low carbs...It fills me up without making me fat. Its what humans been eating for thousands of years so I'm thinking my genes know how to handle that. Farming is a fairly new concept in the scheme of things so I stay away of grains etc. I always hear that plant protein is not complete it has to be mixed and matched to complete the amino acids. And most vegans get their protein from grains breads etc. to even come close to a decent protein intake would require a large amount of carbs. which would have to be burned throughout the day or they will get stored in our belly as fat. It can probably be done but I would probably have to triple my current activity just to waste that amount of energy, Insane. And I don't trust soy, its like the dog food for the masses. http://www.emagazine.com/archive/4349

Evolution as a Free Market of Genes
wdiaz03 replied to LukeK's topic in Libertarianism, Anarchism and Economics
Thanks for the clarifications Compared to the amount of cooperation, nature is mostly a zero sum game. If a Zebra eats an apple that apple is not available to anyone else. Most consumption occurs at the expense of everyone else. There is little trade in nature. Modern humans have to mostly trade to consume, meaning they have to grow the economic pie before consuming a slice. This is the idea of memes (ideas) and how they spread like genes. I think you might be mixing concepts a bit here. Humans are behaving no different that any other species. Crocodiles eat anything that crosses their path and have survived millions of years. Good design, no need to change anything as far as genes I guess. I'm not aware of this economic law...but I think humans can greatly benefit in the way they organize themselves. Like an ant farm, If the human ant farm is to be successful without having to sacrifice individuals then they most adhere to the NAP. But plenty of organisms like ants organize themselves with little regard to the individual and they have survived for millions of years. -
Too bad that books like the bible and fairy tales (but I repeat myself) like snow white has given apples a bad name. Tell me about it, healthy food is crazy expensive, jerky, nuts and dried fruits prices have skyrocketed or is it inflation? hmmm

Evolution as a Free Market of Genes
wdiaz03 replied to LukeK's topic in Libertarianism, Anarchism and Economics
Is evolution a free market of genes? do you mean within a specific species?, where the genes have to cooperate to survive, If not, it seems that for most of evolution most species compete in a zero sum game, not a free market. How are humans a monopoly? What do they supply that is unique and they only supply? Most genes humans have are shared with many other species. Chimps share 98% so as far as those genes go, they would care less whether chimps or humans survive. Can you explain a little more what you mean? Monopolies can arise in free markets, but this natural monopolies just show that that company can meet the particular need of the market better than anyone else. So, If you meant: Is evolution a free market of species? It doesn't seem so. Are humans a monopoly at making humans? This seems valid, Since the human blueprint is a unique way of assembling a group of genes. But then every other species is a monopoly as well... -
A little to insensitive in my opinion, I rather not give candy at all or give heartier snacks. (Bags of beef jerky and dried fruits?) My boy enjoys collecting candy but once home he doesn't eat it, it just gets recycled back to the neighborhood.

How many lies in the Captain Phillips movie?
wdiaz03 replied to Scottishhh's topic in Libertarianism, Anarchism and Economics
Well, I wanted to send a clear message. I would not want a pissed pirate a few feet from the hull with an RPG in hand. So the miniguns would be my preferred method. Establish a perimeter of say 500+ meters around the ship...any vessel crossing this line gets a warning burst. At 4000 rounds per minute, it only takes few seconds to deliver a couple hundred rounds....Once the pirates see this white wall of water in front of them they will quickly turn around. or be turned into swiss cheese. Instead we get this: http://music.yahoo.com/blogs/music-news/britney-spears-songs-leave-somali-pirates-saying-arrr-174010868.html- 10 replies

Bitcoin capable of phasing out the fed?

I don't think the problem is the medium where the bitcoin is kept. But think about this, what if the pyramids were really banks and the hieroglyphics a form of bitcoins...pretty useless today...but if they were lined with gold...Hmmm- 37 replies

Bitcoin capable of phasing out the fed?
wdiaz03 replied to Mick Bynes's topic in Libertarianism, Anarchism and Economics
The average joe does not store more fuel than they consume. Which was the point of my comment. Once a commodity is used as money it will command an added premium than will increase its price. there is now a added demand for fuel other than energy. Whether the market can increase production to meet the extra demand is not the point. But look at what you are proposing here. You have to rely on a "trusted" storage depot with fuel, Well, lets put the word "Trusted" on bitcoins, fiat money...etc and I guess we solve our problem then....Putting a word in front of your chosen solution is not a solution. Think of the storage costs, how are you going to keep all that fuel? at $5 a gallon youll need a 10,000 gallon storage tank to keep $50,000 worth of fuel...you'll need about 33 1oz gold coins at $1500/oz....IF you had to leave your home in a hurry? good luck with your fuel. Also gold does not catch fire easily and does not go bad in a year or so or evaporate. (I think fuel is a bad example of what money should be )- 37 replies

Great minds think alike TT...anything that undermines the Tax Farmers printing presses is going to be targetted in the name of national security, How open is Costa Rica about legally owning automatic machine guns? what a coincidence then? Lets face it. we are allowed to play with the toys that they allow us to play with. bitcoin is no different.- 37 replies

Might point was that one cannot easily validate a barcode or a number on a paper. You need the infrastructure...It would be like hidding 3.5 floppies and my kids kid finding them only to be told...O yeah about that, that technology was phased 100 years ago...you didn't get the memo? Where if he where to find my gold coins it would be a different story. Thanks for the information I'll admit that bitcoins and interesting enough to consider and I'll do that. I was just pointing some things out.- 37 replies

Bitcoin capable of phasing out the fed?
wdiaz03 replied to Mick Bynes's topic in Libertarianism, Anarchism and Economics
Fuel will have the same problem, Because most people will be storing more fuel than they consume. If fuel were used to store value then its price will increase due to the new demand for this new purpose and consumption of fuel as fuel will drop as its use is shifted to a medium of exchange. I Don't think this will solve anything as far as fractional reserve banking. My issue with bitcoin (I'll have to admit I know little about it) is that I needs to trust some complicated technology to tell me if the bitcoin is not fake etc. You need complicated special equipment (computer, a network, software, OS) how long will this technology last? What if windows 15 does not support Bitcoin due to a government mandate? I can hide my bitcoins in the yard, but without the technology they are useless. Gold has some of the same issues to a lesser degree, as people would have to walk around with gold testing equipment. but gold if buried is still gold, gold coins from the 1500s is still as good today and back then. That's a good track record.- 37 replies

I hope Meshnet works, How many people would risk using it if made illegal? I cant tell. But regardless Pot has not replaced garden plants and I don't know of anyone growing it in their gardens. (Inside their homes maybe) but just like garden plants don't have to worry about being replaced by marijuana plants neither does the enforced fiat currency has to fear bitcoin.- 37 replies
