Bitcoin capable of phasing out the fed?
wdiaz03 replied to Mick Bynes's topic in Libertarianism, Anarchism and Economics
This is all fair and dandy until the SHTF. I learned at an early age not to underestimate those in power. After all they are the Alphas for a reason. Take Cuba with Fidel, living a long life and dying at a ripe old age 90 miles from the US. You can say all you want about him but he was smart enough to play the cards and take over a country and milk it all this time. Living in the guts of the monster I always had this theory that those in power always made sure everyone had to break the law in one way or another to survive, Because breaking the law was to live in fear. and when you live in fear you will not stand out, you will behave, you will allow the tax farmer to take anything from you because if they where to find out what you were doing in the black market you would be thrown in jail an likely die. How hard is it for the government to clamp down on ISPs and enforce monitoring of your internet activity? What is stopping them from setting up fake bitcoin shops and snagging customers? It already happens with bitTorrent, Where Media companies setup computers hosting a movie etc, any IP connecting to it is logged and the ISPs later notified, who then in turn notify their customers of the illegal activity with a letter. How hard is it to monitor your mail? All it takes is for some unlucky citizens to be paraded and be made an example of for most people to stop. For the rest, sure do your business fill your coffers because in the end all they do is to track you down and confiscate your wealth. What is the war on drugs but confiscation of wealth from the poor in the form of raids of their dealers? There really cannot be a competing currency when it is illegal. it will only be used in the black market by a few. Any legal business will still pay people on the currency of the government's choice and all taxes collected in that currency. How many people turned in their gold after Executive Order 6102 passed? The only reason bitcoins is used so much is because it is not yet illegal.- 37 replies

Innocence is not desired in the business because the whole point of it is deception. The host pretends to be nice and has to lie to make the customer happy. The customer pays to be lied to, To be told "you are beautiful" "you are an amazing and interesting person to talk to" etc, They don't want to hear the truth about themselves good or bad. The whole idea is a shallow fulfillment of their desires. You basically have to be a sociopath to make it at this and be able to sleep and night. -
Bitcoin capable of phasing out the fed?

I'm not as optimist. Lets not forget that they have the guns. Once they milk all they can from the dollar they can easily create a new currency "the new dollar" and peg it to the euro or whatever foreign currency people are using. This is not new http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cuban_convertible_peso Cubans get paid in the national currency but any dollars coming in from outside must be converted to another currency CUC before it is spent. Moving the flow of dollars from the people to the government as they replace it with paper (CUC) All the talk of bitcoin transactions being anonymous etc. is irrelevant because all it takes is for the Tax Farmers to declare its use illegal and subject to immediate confiscation not only of the currency but of any property/location/etc where it has been used. Then the Farmers wold only need to pose as buyers or sellers and arrest and make a few examples for people not to even want to touch the stuff.- 37 replies

How many lies in the Captain Phillips movie?
wdiaz03 replied to Scottishhh's topic in Libertarianism, Anarchism and Economics
It always intrigued me how a group of pirates can board a tanker and hold it hostage. Wouldn't a pair of M134 miniguns solve the problem? You woulnd't need to buy the guns, it'll be a rental service. You are going in the area, you stop by a port get the guns mounted on each side and go on your way, on the other side of of the hot zone you get the guns removed and they get fitted to a ship travelling the other way. Problem solved. http://www.dillonaero.com/videos.html- 10 replies

Wow, I felt sad and empty watching this...but that's just me. Thanks for posting -
Best of luck, I'll only add that some people like financial stability more than others. You mention passive job searching and part time musician. I don't know what your future earning potential would be but some people look at that in a relationship. If I were a woman I would not like to have a guy sitting at home all day playing music etc. Again I'm not saying that that is you or that you have no potential. But it might be worth to look at your future earning potential and see if that is a factor.

Not sure what you mean...you don't know what your fate is before hand. If I am going somewhere but don't know where I am going to end up, it is pointless to say That I had no choice where I ended up, that regardless of what I did This is the place i would be. Fate is a form of paralysis, because I can now stay in bed all day and the universe will do what it has to do to make my fate come true. because if I fail or not try hard enough it was fate and if it were meant to be it would be....blagh.

Yup, But do we even know if those in power behind the scenes were really replaced? Or was it more like the board of directors picked a new CEO and CFO?

Perhaps, but I find it highly improbable. Looking at the question from the video: "what am I going to eat Jan 1?" If I never ponder this question Jan 1 arrives and I eat X. But the fact that I now ponder this question and analyze all possible variables that might affect my decision It might trigger other variables to be accounted for that otherwise would not have been analyzed in the original time-line where I never pondered the question. Because our memory is fuzzy, we might or might not take into account things that affect our decisions. If I act on inpulse I might do something that otherwise I would not do If I stop to think about it beforehand. To give an analogy. If I fall down a cliff it is possible to predict where I will land and how. But the task is enormous. Each pebble, branch and conditions that affect my trajectory would have to be know. How each of my body parts will react with each blow etc. Now if I'm asked to analyze this data before hand, I introduced a variable called "You are going to fall down this cliff". and since the first thing in front of me is a tree I know I'll hit that...but I'll flinch differently now. because memories of being hurt throughout my life will surface in my brain where as before I had no idea until it happened....So I will likely end up in a different location and in a different position. We might not have free will in a sense that knowing all possible variables will predict the outcome...but the sheer number of variables is so vast that we might as well call it free will.

Not buying an iPhone
wdiaz03 replied to aelephant's topic in Libertarianism, Anarchism and Economics
I don't think one can deprive a person of a job by not buying a phone. You are assuming Apple wont see a trend of diminishing sales and they will not inquire about why. If all those in the iPhone cult decide not to keep buying products because working conditions, then Apple will simple change those conditions. But I would doubt it'll get that far. maybe they drop the price, I don't think that all consumers can unite in such a way to cause the closure of a plant. If that does happen Samsung might buy the plant and sell to a less picky public. The knowledge that exists in that plant will not be waste on menial jobs. -
My guess is that he wants you to get familiar with those articles __ 1-2) Perspective on high-nurturance (functional) families. Were you raised in one? __ 1-3) Review the developmental needs of average young children __ 1-4) Preview this perspective on effective parenting (Lesson 6) Notice that 1-4 says "Preview"... and the article is from lesson 6. So 1-2 which is the one you talked about is just to give you a prespective, and as you pointed out is from lesson 5 Maybe in lesson one he wants to give you an overview of certain key ideas.

Any chances we can get a concensus before I finish with my BBQ? The Flank steaks are looking nice, but I don't want to feel bad about eating them...

What if 10,000 people want 2,000 phones?
wdiaz03 replied to Alan C.'s topic in Libertarianism, Anarchism and Economics
All joking aside, The odvious answer is that the phones would be 1/5 the size of the average phone of that time. Which is not an issue given the speed in which phone sizes are increasing, by that time a phone would be the zise of a 42" TV, 1/5 that would be a 10" tablet. inconvinient but stil usable until the resources are mined. When the resources become available you can 3D print yourself a regular size phone. -

I think you meant "DO NOT" make garbage disposal available. I thought about this myself but without a form of tracking of who the garbage belongs to, people will just dump it somewhere in order to avoid the fee. There will have to be a form of tracking that could not be bypassed. Say I buy a mattress that is sprayed with nanoIDs. I would have to pay for it to be collected. If I just dump it It can be traced using the nanoIDs. this technology cannot be easily bypassed. I cannot burn the mattress and bypass it. etc. The collection agency will have to record the nanoID and log somewhere that the mattress is no longer mine etc. Now apply this to all sorts of products from Food waste to containers....also how do you reassign the nanoIDs, If I give my mattress away, and the person dumps it...it'll get traced to me. How would bending machines tag who they sell to? what about stolen of found items....they can be used then dumped without concerned of who will get blamed. I think of this because I see people dumping trash all the time just to avoid the drive to the local collection place. or fees like construction waste (cement, bricks, tiles etc) they find a desolated place and dump it. Sounds complicated, thoughts? -
But what's the alternative for a wild animal? nature is a constant struggle to survive. For example. We have ducks in our neighborhood and they are constantly hungry and when the ducklings hatch each day there are fewer until 2 or 3 out of 20 reach maturity. If you could ask those ducklings if they would like to get fed each day, protected from harm, allowed to reproduce etc. the only tradeoff is that they will be eaten when they get old. What's to say that they wont take that deal? What good is free will when you have very little chances of surviving?

My two cents, Take advantage to projects that could show future employers that you have experience in your field. In my opinion 90% of the classes I took had no actual value in my job other than to exercise the brain. 10% or less of the stuff I studied had actual value for employment. So take the projects seriously and try to get involved in aspects of the project that you can later talk about in interviews. One too many students sit back and let other do the group projects or do the easy parts. For example say you had a project to implement a stepper motor controller, be involved in all aspects of the project and from the circuit design to the programming. and this will be something you can put on your resume in the future. Remember you can coast by if you like, but the consequences would be a resume that doesn't stand out or an job interview where employers are not impressed. The aim of your education should be at providing the most possible value for your labor assuming you will be working for someone.

I don't see anything wrong with "Thou shalt not kill" and God killing people. Think about this for a second. If God places people on earth for a reason. (to teach them something) and If God kills a bunch of people That is the best that could have happened to them. Their trial is over and they get to live in eternal bliss at his side in heaven. You are looking at it with your atheist brain. Put yourself on a believer shoes. Even if I'm tortured, raped my entired life on earth. That is just a drop in the bucket compared with ethernity. A small price to pay for ethernal happiness. Mike you are also being narrow minded. It doesn't matter how arbitrary God is if you believe that his will has a reason. You take whatever comes because 90 years on earth is insignificant with infinite time in heaven. Maybe Killing for a believer is being in Hell with Satan. If god kills you is not killing but a ticket to heaven.

I think that question 4 has to do with the way people store information about the world. take the question "Where should we go for lunch?" If you know beforehand it most be because you know the value of every single variable applicable to the conclusion. But a person might think "I feel like fish", but might or might not remember that they have a coupon for an italian restaurant, or might or might not remember having a good time at a pizza place nearby etc. Add to that the infinite many inputs we preseive about the world around us, a smell triggering memories, a attractive person reminding us of the cute waitress. etc. Therefore it might be related with the way our brain retrieve information that free will is possible.

But isn't all these murders a mute point? one could argue that he just alleviated their suffering here on earth with a one way ticket to heaven where they all now live in eternal bliss. For religion death is just a transition. Even pain and suffering can get a free pass. After all what's a life of pain and suffering compared to eternal joy in heaven? a small price to pay I say. So God just inflicts this things to teach people stuff and once they learn it they go to heaven for eternity. win win.
