The 2nd amendment is clear, the government may not infringe on your right to bear arms People want guns for protection, hunting and recreation - ~120 million people in America have guns, <8000 use them for crimes - the most extreme gun control advocates want the government to punish the 120 million to control the 8000 Luckily the government is constitutionally restricted from taking such action, however something has to be done about the 8000 who use guns for crimes and we know its not moral or wise to sell a rocket launcher to a middle schooler from chicago This is a chance for libertarians and anarchists to take the lead and solve this issue and give the best example of making government obsolete - People can voluntarily choose who to sell guns to, people can require standards be met before a manufacturer sells to a retailer or before a retailer sells to a customer Raise money voluntarily - work with manufacturers and retailers to set up gun control designed to shut out the 8000 without fucking over the 120 million - Set up networks with mental health service providers, with law enforcement agencies, and use this next level profiling technology to run checks not only on the customer but people in the household, in the family and in the greater community, but keep mind of the reason for the 2nd amendment, make customer information as secure as possible, only make the information available to the government by warrant Then raise more money from all interested parties to regulate and provide oversight to the system - the customers and greater community have an interest in bad guys NOT getting guns, the retailers and manufacturers have an interest in ensuring everyone is playing by the rules and no one is getting undercut We can hold each other accountable through voluntarily NOT doing business with assholes that dont meet required standards, we dont need to use the force to of the state, we need to provide the best experience and most efficient low cost process and communicate the benefits and results - thats how you win There are lots of good ideas when it comes to gun control - we already know if you take out the 'chicagos' the suicide and the cop shootings America has a comparable murder/crime rate as other developed nations with and without gun control - why not have the best record?

I like what Carl and Banana said - plus what Lars93 said - being useful and valuable to other people will always be your best bet -
During the transition from state to freedom we are going to have some very interesting situations to deal with Assuming at the time the nation is still constitutionally based and has a military Foreign policy: FDRLand are free to conduct business with whomever they please FDRLand will use the all available means to enforce constitutionally consistent contracts between citizens and foreign nations/persons upon request from the citizen - for a fee FDRLand will protect citizens from the claims of foreign nations/persons based on unconstitutional contracts and contracts that were not agree'd to by the persons affected -for a fee, or for paid members or if paid members contribute enough to cover non-members for everyone FDRLand will work with foreign nations/persons to enforce constitutionally consistent contracts with the citizen(s) named in the contract - For a fee And if the FDRLand representatives tasked with this suck, you are free to use whoever else you want to enforce your contracts, or just take the risk of no protection - whatever works, you are free!

How to peacefully shut down the IRS
bootoo posted a topic in Libertarianism, Anarchism and Economics
How to peacefully shut down the IRS We create an automated system where the working man submits their 1040 showing earned income and they get issued a card Second you create another automated system where you submit your annual bank statements and tax documents to show you are broke and have no income you get another card This leaves a third category, the slackers who dont work, didnt earn their money, and dont contribute other than to stack the deck in their favor at the working mans cost You charge at cost for everyone with a card You cover your costs and make your profits and fund whatever project you want on top of that through that one group of slackers They find out whats happening and immediately shut down the IRS to make verifying earned income harder Friday! -
Voluntary - choosing between starving or working a minimum wage job And look at those minimum wage jobs - fast food places, handing out heart disease and obesity, coming out of the job with no skills or money to put towards bettering yourself or your community - yet the kind hearted peopel running the jobs pogram we call mcdonalds are billionaires I would recommend caring about why things are how they are

What does it take to get people to be willing to work for $15 an hour? Besides the kids who just want to make extra money to blow at the weekend...you need massive under employment or unemployment - a large section of the workforce living under the poverty line - and no safety net I am not suggesting we take taxes at gun point and give it away, im suggesting you personally as a free individual do not support businesses that rely on or contribute to a shit society

How to live independently from the state
bootoo replied to Zenith's topic in Libertarianism, Anarchism and Economics
only do business with the government when absolutely necessary example: dont register your marrage with the state, dont get the tax/legal benefits Dont let your friends/family/community get on welfare or work government/military jobs, offer to provide your own resources to help them dont worry about raising awareness or what other people do, work on yourself, do everything you can do, be the example, and if people want to know feel free to share, otherwise let people freely do as they want! -
if paying someone $15 means you have to go out of business, you should go out of business, your business is clearly not doing anything for anyone. Either people want to do the work because it needs to be done, and it doesnt matter what you pay OR the work is valuable enough that you can afford to pay the human cost, health care, education, healthy diet/environment, social time with family/community etc Dont support businesses that fuck people over or outsource these things to tax payers, most of these types of businesses are providing things you can do yourself, cheaper, and better quality

Who will build the roads...
bootoo replied to Existing Alternatives's topic in Libertarianism, Anarchism and Economics
I dont think its a capitalist thing I think of it like this - humans have lots of diverse needs, you focus on the few important ones, get good at taking care of them and live a very independent life free of other humans. The upside is you are then able to freely associate with whoever you want, willful free exchange. The downside is you are probably trading animal skins and potatoes and only the strong survive. The second option is, you specialize in taking care of one specific human need, this means you are completely dependent on other humans to meet all the other needs. Downside, you are not free to associate with whoever you want, and your exchanges may not be as free or as willful as you'd like. The upside is, the value you do create can be traded for healthcare, technology, education and lots of other great things due to all the efficiency and gains of specialization. Its not necessarily capital you need, its trust and communication. In the information age banks and money shouldnt be needed to get people together for a project. Today a few dozen can provide everything for the 100's of people pulling and processing the raw materials and laying/maintaining the road itself, along with all the support systems like education and R&D that is necessary for a technology dependent society. -
Russell Brand Launches Into Rant AGAINST Comic Relief
bootoo replied to FreedomPhilosophy's topic in Current Events
There is a reason people like to hold up clowns like brand when it comes to politics or society ignore scholarly work by professionals like this one: http://scholar.princeton.edu/sites/default/files/mgilens/files/gilens_and_page_2014_-testing_theories_of_american_politics.doc.pdf I would suggest staying away from celebrity news -

My girlfriend is pregnant. Should I marry her?
bootoo replied to Daniel Unplugged's topic in General Messages
Makes things much easier if you are married in dealing with the state and companies when it comes to insurance and taxes however, i dont see any value in the state or a religion validating my commitment to my woman, and the wife agrees -
How did that stargod guy get so fat? i dont think you are really loving mother nature when you take so much from her that you make yourself sick an more reliant on others... a side note - people wanting proof or good arguments are just as crazy as the OP I like Crazy!

I have a (almost) 2 year old, and all the other parents im around have been going on about this magic elf - they say you get a toy elf and you move it around the house every day, you tell the kid the elf is watching and he is reporting back to santa i guess overall its a control mechanism as much as it is getting the kids excited for christmas but the lengths people go to with these things seems absurd, if you touch the thing its magic goes away, so they keep it out of reach of hte kids, then they set it up so the thing is found in the cupboard having eaten some cookies, or got into the make up - you can imagine All i could think was, why would you make so much effort to make your kid believe something thats not real? should you really be training your kid to believe in magic? needless to say, im not doing the elf thing
