  1. A concept is giving the justification for some people to extract value from some people (who tacitly accept that concept, whether or not they accept the claim to their value) to give to other people to make roads.
  2. Yeah, that's why I liked that he explained the principles so that tests could be done in other conditions. He didn't spend a lot of time on controlling for outside conditions, though, so maybe that's a good follow-up video...
  3. I have had cars where using the "defrost" setting would turn on the A/C for me. Seems like the more modern ones hide a lot of the internal processes, but they do a good job.
  4. Kid friendly and interesting science.
  5. This would be true if the "whataboutrists" weren't trying to confuse the issue by pushing the discussion to be too abstract, or simply to change the subject away from what they find uncomfortable.
  6. Tyler Durden's analysis of the deliberate escalation: http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2016-01-03/oregon-standoff-terrible-plan-we-might-be-stuck
  7. Hedges are more complex than counter-bets. They are actions taken so that if bets don't go the way they want it lessens the impact of failure. Insurance is a hedge that seems like a bet, sure, but getting a politician to bail you out or change the law is a great deal more complicated than a bet. Remember that the only difference between the government and the mafia is an amplified aura of legitimacy.
  8. There's a ton of statistics in this: Also, plenty of links to deeper information.
  9. And, of course, this all happens in the week Obama plans to push gun control... http://www.examiner.com/article/will-obama-exploit-malheur-takeover-to-push-gun-control-agenda
  10. The truly rich have hedges against most anything, including politicians in their pocket.
  11. Seems to have the most information, but I have not vetted it: http://theconservativetreehouse.com/2016/01/03/full-story-on-whats-going-on-in-oregon-militia-take-over-malheur-national-wildlife-refuge-in-protest-to-hammond-family-persecution/
  12. "The Ferguson Effect" http://hotair.com/archives/2016/01/03/the-ferguson-effect-hits-a-mall-in-kentucky/
  13. Still not a lot of information. https://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item&px=Ian-Murdock-Details-Still-MIA
  14. No one can dictate how you feel, but how you behave towards others should be based on truth. The evolutionary advantage humankind has is from the abilities to learn, adapt, and pass on knowledge more efficiently than any other animal.
  15. His last tweets were disturbing, and the rumor is suicide, this one is calling for a "Truth About".
  16. Possible problems with the National Crime Victimization Survey and other Census Bureau surveys? http://nypost.com/2015/12/28/census-vet-weighs-in/
  17. Good people in society will just refuse to do business with you until you do right by your children. Consider your deed in the dark as your food supplies dwindle. Maybe they won't let you starve, or your children at least, but they will not let you buy any of the good stuff.
  18. I put up one example of a privatized park, not a solution for government debt. You're right, it's not enough, but it's something. The Bureau of Land Management "owns" an incredible amount of land. It would be nice to make use of it.
  19. Private parks in action: https://reason.com/blog/2015/12/28/creating-a-private-yellowstone-environme
  20. “The majority of individuals involved in urban firearm violence are young men with substantial violence involvement preceding the more serious offense of a firearm crime,” the report said. “Our findings suggest that integrating data systems could help these individuals better receive the early, comprehensive help that they need to prevent violence involvement.” http://www.nytimes.com/2015/12/25/us/cdc-gun-violence-wilmington.html Another data point in support of peaceful parenting...
  21. The state should pay off its debts, many of those debts are owed to private citizens, or corporations in which private citizens own a share. I was giving an example of a way for religious buildings to be maintained without a public trust, not reincorporating society.
  22. Stef has said the essence of what I said before on casts. He's not looking to get rich or popular, he's looking to make a peaceful and philosophical world.
