  6. The next Freedomain Radio Chicago Meetup will be happening on Saturday, June 7th, at 2:00 p.m. We're going to be revisiting The Junction Chicago in Union Station. The address is 222 S Riverside Plaza. It's a nice venue and, though they don't serve food, if we get hungry, we can go to The Metro Deli & Sports Bar which is also in Union Station and right around the corner. Please RSVP at http://www.meetup.com/Freedomain-Radio/Chicago-IL/1162162/. If you don't have a Meetup account to RSVP, please contact me via facebook. More about the Freedomain Radio Chicago Meetup group can be found on their facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/groups/656575817730880/. Look forward to seeing everyone!
  7. It sure did! I was listening and what a great plug by Mike and Stef! Thank you! And thanks for the heads up and sharing the good news, Kevin.
  8. A great get-together of the Freedomain Radio Chicago Meetup Group was held on Saturday, May 24th. The meeting spanned two meal times, and went well into the evening, as the time flew by while engaging in amazing conversations. It was decided to continue scheduling the Meetups for every two weeks, as it will provide more opportunity to members to attend (in case someone can't make a Meetup that's available to attend only once a month). The venues will vary and will include meeting downtown and in the suburbs, as well as be dependent on the weather (as we are all familiar, summers in Chicagoland can be fleeting). We have the next Meetup scheduled for Saturday, June 7th. Check out the posting in Meet 'n Greet or check out the links below. 9. Thanks, Kevin! Wes, that's exactly what I was thinking, too. I'm hoping this will be a launch pad to encourage Meetups from all over to get together and, ultimately, to get together for an annual FDR Meetup conference! Meeting and getting together with those in the Chicagoland area has been some of the most meaningful and worthwhile time spent in my life. I envision expanding those times spent in the company of a few fellow FDR members to hundreds. This effort needs to start with us as individuals; by reaching out to each other locally and sharing our experiences together, we can begin reaching out globally. Stef puts it best when he stated, "“If there's more that you can do, then do it. If there's not more that you can do, then be content with what you're doing. But if there is despair, the despair can only be that you can do more. Because when you're doing as much as you can do, you will not feel despair. Because despair is the gap between what you could be doing and what you are doing.” This could apply to anything in our lives and I'm applying it in my life, among other things, to bringing together FDR members to meet face-to-face. We, the members of the Freedomain Radio community, are out there. Let's take advantage of the wonderful resource that Stefan Molyneux has provided in offering a Meetup platform to help us find each other! "Let's show the world what the future looks like!" - Stefan Molyneux (To me it looks like a world filled with and connected to an ever growing FDR community!)
  10. I've launched an online magazine/blog designed to showcase and promote all the great Freedomain Radio Meetup gatherings that are being planned and happening among such a fantastic community of philosophical minds across the globe. The site is freedomainradiomeetup.com We, the FDR community, are indeed spread around the world. The site will provide a central venue in which I’ll be bringing together news about FDR Meetups worldwide, both past and upcoming, as well as articles with tips on developing thriving Meetups. Having been a member of various Meetup groups since 2006 and being an Organizer/Assistant Organizer, when I realized that Freedomain Radio has the Meetup Everywhere platform in place, I was inspired to get involved. I'm in the Chicagoland area and we've been using Freedomain Radio Meetups (www.meetup.com/Freedomain-Radio/) to schedule our get-togethers. To promote them further, I've been using the Meet 'n Greet category on the FDR Forum and a Freedomain Radio Chicago Meetup group on facebook. For any who aren't familiar with the difference between the Meetup.com site and Meetup Everywhere (both run by the same company), these are the fundamental differences: A Meetup Group is set up directly through Meetup.com and is a local community group that has regular Meetups in their town and are usually started by a local organizer (or organization) that wants to grow at a neighborhood level only. Meetup.com also costs money for the individual or organization to join. Meetup Everywhere's platform is intended for a cause, movement, issue, brand, etc., with a large following of people they want to mobilize and can contact in order to promote their Meetups. This platform enables people to self-organize Meetups in their towns across the globe within one national or international movement and is free to those who wish to schedule Meetups in their area. It is through the Meetup Everywhere platform that Freedomain Radio is able to offer to anyone within the FDR community, at no cost, the ability to schedule a local FDR Meetup in their area (www.meetup.com/Freedomain-Radio/). Yet another fantastic reason to donate money to Freedomain Radio for offering such a wonderful resource to help us find each other. I'll be continuing to update and add more pages and articles to the freedomainradiomeetup.com site. It will be a continual work in progress, especially considering it's content concentrates on ongoing events. It's my goal to get others involved in this project and I look forward to working with other organizers who are bringing together the FDR community in their areas! If you'd like to share news about your local Freedomain Radio Meetups, or if you're interested in contributing article(s), please contact me through PM here on FDR or at [email protected]. Thanks and I look forward to hearing the community's feedback.
  11. Hi, Queecho, I'm in the Chicagoland area. It's great to see you reaching out to find the like-minded in your area. I did the same recently and found that others were reaching out as well in my area. One of the ways we were able to make the connection was using FDR's Meetup Group feature. Have you checked out the FDR Meetup community yet? It shows 10 philosophers in the Pittsburgh group and they've had a Meetup as recently as April. You can check it out at http://www.meetup.com/Freedomain-Radio/Pittsburgh-PA/. Meeting and getting together with those in the Chicagoland area has been some of the most meaningful and worthwhile time spent in my life. I encourage you to keep trying. They're out there! Melesina
  12. Thank you, xelent and Freedomainfruitbat.
  13. Tomorrow is the next Chicago Meetup and 9 have RSVP'd that they'll be there. For those attending (or interested in attending), if you don't have my number yet and need to reach me, the best way is to leave me a message on facebook. At the previous Meetup, a few of us were there until 8:00 p.m., so if you want to attend but can't make the 2:00 start time, get in touch with me because we may still be there and welcome your company! Look forward to seeing everyone there!
  14. The awesome sticker you made looking great on my Jeep! It's amazing that you're providing these for free, Carl. Thank you thank you!
  15. I had time to create one more meme for now...
  16. One more meme I had time to create today:
  17. My latest meme creation:
  18. I'm experiencing the same, Wes. I've been seeing only one person in chat at a time. Additionally, when I try to log in to chat, it continually loads and never lets me in.
  19. Hi, Aaron, and welcome to the FDR community! I've really enjoyed getting to know you in chat. Looking forward to more conversations.
  20. Johannes, Thank you for responding to my inquiry. Using the online dating venue has been something I consider retrying from time to time; however, my past experiences have thus far deterred me from pursuing it further. It's interesting to see a method of fine-tuning the results and nearly makes me consider giving it another try. I'll give it some more thought, once my schedule permits more personal time. I look forward to seeing any further additions to your checklist. For the brief time I tried okCupid, my results of finding anyone over an 80% match were well outside of a 'let's meet for a date' geographical range and would have required consideration of a long-distance relationship. Unfortunately, a large percentage of those turned out to also be spammers.
  21. The next Freedomain Radio Chicago Meetup is scheduled for Saturday, May 24th, at 2:00 p.m. The feedback we received encouraged us to plan the next one at the Local Root restaurant again. There are two options for parking nearby: One is street parking available within walking distance (last meetup even as close as a half block). Street parking is payable in coins, the rate is $4.00 per hour, and payable in 2 hour increments. The other option is parking garage. The cheapest parking garage nearest the venue is at 441 E. Erie at a rate of $16. It's located on the southeast corner of Erie Street and McClurg. Enter from Erie St, 1/2 block east of McClurg. Laura suggests a great phone app called 'SpotHero' that offers a map of available parking which is helpful in locating further parking options. Please RSVP at http://www.meetup.com/Freedomain-Radio/Chicago-IL/1155092/. If you don't have a Meetup account to RSVP, please contact me via the group facebook page (link below) or here by PM. This will help us keep an accurate count for reserving tables. Additional information can be found on the Freedomain Radio Chicago Meetup Group facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/groups/656575817730880/. For more info about the venue and where it's located, visit their web site at www.localrootchicago.com. There are plans being made for the next future Meetup to be an outdoor event at a nature preserve just outside Chicago. Keith and Laura are working on the location, so we'll have a reserved area for a cookout. Yay for warm weather in Chicago!
  22. The focus of your checklist is in determining who to initially reach out to with a message; however, to take it a step further, I'd enjoy hearing what your recommendations are for deciphering the messages you receive. What criteria do you use to determine what their greeting tells you about them? Wes, your post had me curious for more information, so I googled the image and found the article. If anyone else is interested in reading the article, the link is: http://modernbachelorlifestyle.com/smile-for-happier-lifestyle/ Personally, I hadn't been aware of how to spot whether a smile is genuine or not. It's good to know what to look for. Thanks, Wes.
  23. It was a beautiful long awaited springtime day in Chicago for the May 10th Meetup of the Chicagoland FDR members. We had a great turnout of 9! It was a pleasure meeting new attendees, all getting to know each other better, and enjoying the delicious food at Local Root. Your restaurant was a great venue for the Meetup, Daniel. Thank you for inviting us to meet there. For anyone who wants to join future Freedomain Radio Chicago Meetups, please visit both of these links for more details: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/groups/656575817730880/ Meetup: http://www.meetup.com/Freedomain-Radio/Chicago-IL/ The next Meetup is being planned and details will be posted in the next few days.
  24. Today's the day for the Freedomain Radio Chicago Meetup! I'm headed in to the city now. Looking forward to seeing everyone that's able to attend!
  25. Since the temporary maintenance shutdown last night, I keep getting a pop-up after logging in stating "The site's security certificate is not trusted".
