  1. All I was taught is cursive. Frankly it's a more efficient way of writing, and if you wanna take notes in college (or anywhere) I have no idea how you can do without. It's one of those things schools do to make things harder for you. I've seen some videos how they taught kids multiplication or fractions in the US. I would call it a conspiracy to dumb kids down, but it's far too obvious.
  2. Can you get hired without a degree? Assuming you have all the education a college would provide, are you able to find a job in the field you desire? If yes, then I strongly argue against college. Not only do you go in debt, but there's also the price of a couple of years you have to pay whilst being in college. During that time you'll be forced to learn stuff you won't ever need, and what you need is taught at a very slow pace. If you're into it, you could probably learn by yourself in one year what they would teach you in 3.
  3. If you have one bucket that can hold 2 gallons, and another bucket that can hold 5 gallons, how many buckets do you have?
  4. In my native tongue there's a strict correlation between the sound and the lettering of a word, everything is spelled phonetically. You learn how to spell one word, and you learn how to spell all words. I'm kinda ambivalent about this whole spelling thing. On the one hand, if someone corrects my spelling I roll my eyes because English has an idiotic spelling system. On the other hand, when I see spelling errors from a native English speaker I look down at them a little because a foreigner shouldn't be able to tell a native how to speak their own language.
  5. Well you're not initiating force so I don't see how it can be immoral (even if you're depicting sketchy stuff). As far as affecting your career goes, lots of things can do that, including philosophy. But let's say it won't ever affect you in the future, maybe in fact it will actually help (lots of great artists drew porn). Do you still feel the need for validation? I may be wrong but I get a feeling you want someone to tell you that what you're doing is ok, and the morality/career reasoning is just an afterthought. You could experiment to see if your doubts come from an emotional reaction, or rational one. Draw some porn you don't find appealing at all and notice if your worries are still there. If they're not, then I reckon it was an emotional reaction that warrants further analysis.
  6. Recently watched this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XapVqkUbkrU The line "when you've got no personality, you swap out any potential sincerity you might have and replace it with dated pop-culture references in the name of a laugh" sums it up. There's nothing there. No originality, no thought, no humor it's all derivative. I reckon two types of people watch their videos. People that are in the same mindset as the makers, and people that get a healthy dose of pride for managing not to become like the makers of the videos.
  7. It works for me. It's on a separate board for FDR projects, you have to be logged in in order to access it. Does that fix it?
  8. I know it's an upcoming presentation. Here is a link to a thread about it: https://board.freedomainradio.com/topic/39621-the-truth-about-daycare/
  9. If your friend keeps calling your wife a cunt and you say you love your wife, why would you still hang out with him?
  10. You're subsidizing bad behavior. If you're still friends with the racist then he has lost nothing by discriminating against a whole class of people. So he will continue to be a racist, and you will continue to waste your time and money on anti-racist causes. If the grocer sells you rotten apples each day and each day you buy them all the same, why on earth would he even bother selling you fresh apples? And how will it help you to buy fresh apples by talking to the grocer and giving him money to import fresh apples when you still buy the rotten apples? Furthermore, you have no right to complain about the grocer selling you rotten apples when you are the one buying them.
  11. When people are pushing back (whether through ridicule or peaceful protests) is when the state should be most feared. A cornered animal is a very dangerous animal. This is why I love the idea of change through peaceful parenting. It's less about pushing back and more about waiting for the predator to die out.
  12. If value is subjective therefore immeasurable then trade cannot possibly occur. And without trade we wouldn't even be here as a species in the first place. If I trade a banana for an apple I just measured the value of a banana to be that of an apple. Trade gives rise to money, and the fact that money is just easier to carry it doesn't mean a trade of goods did not occur.

    Make-up

Masturbation is also something that makes you feel good about yourself. So if what they say is true, that putting on make-up (or tattoos) is just something to make them feel good about themselves... then to some extent what they're saying is that they like jerking off in public.

  15. I recommend the book "On Intelligence" by Jeff Hawkins. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/On_Intelligence It deals with the very concept of intelligence and how it can be reproduced. There's a technical chapter he warns readers in the foreword to skip if they find tech talk boring. But if there's a chapter that should be read, it's that one. The model of the workings of the brain he presents is so simple and elegant, it would be surprising it won't turn out to be a fact. A distinction he makes in the book is between consciousness and intelligence. The latter not needing the former to exist. So in this regard, intelligent machines will be no different than any other tool out there, it's up to us to decide how to use them. We already have had the most destructive tool imaginable at our disposal for decades, and yet it's still the least of our worries. The danger comes from the same place it always did, evil crazy people. Theory aside, applications to thinking software have already been put into practice albeit for mundane task. The AI model presented in the book is put into a program that then learns how to play Super Mario Bros. and other games The ending is pretty shocking:
  16. By reading on the literature. All medical information is freely available for whomever googles it: http://emedicine.medscape.com/ophthalmology http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Myopia
  17. Hmmm, I'm always put in high spirits by good parenting. So if that stranger's the same, shouldn't he have said something like "because of your parenting"? But then again maybe he did say that but the waitress paraphrased is as "well behaved kids".
  18. There's also the vampire myth of how they can get others to easily open up to them.
  19. DNA, hormones, you name it. Microwaves are too weak to ionize atoms, thus they can just pass through the body unnoticed. I reckon long term exposure can indeed have a cumulative effect to the point where the MW become strong enough to be able to interact with matter. BUT, as previously mentioned, why are we worrying about MW when sunlight is far more dangerous? I'm being constantly exposed to it and it is far more powerful than MW. Why isn't sunlight a concern but MW are? Surely a long term MW exposure of over 10 years pales in comparison with constant sunlight exposure over the entire span of human evolution.
