Referring to the Brown thing, of course. Every where I go people are just mindlessly raving about this whole incident. I don't even care if they think Wilson is guilty, I just wish they would have a more level-headed, rational approach. Let's hear some arguments and at least open it up for discussion. I couldn't even suggest that Wilson might be innocent without being called a racist. I know this is nothing new to a bunch of anarchists and atheists, it's just particularly hard when it all bubbles up during incidents like these. The dogma fog (fogma?) is real.

Thanks friend, I'd be interested in that.

It's like, I just feel constantly tired and exhausted. I think it has a lot to do with my crappy diet and bad sleep schedule. I mean, it has something to do with my psyche as well, but I think I would have more energy if I ate well, excercised and woke up earlier. But those are some of the things I'm having difficulty getting around to, because of the lack of energy. So it's a vicious cycle. My mom would not really critisize my schedule. She would let me do whatever I wanted, more or less, as long as I completed my homework. My dad was much more strict but he was at work usually. Overall though my life wasn't very structured. I sort of just did what I want, much like I do now. I do the bare minimum in terms of things I need to get done, but I don't have much ambition, empirically.

Playing video games, watching TV, browsing the internet, "alone time"... I mean, none of those things are completely terrible, but the degree to which I spend time on them is wasteful to me. Good idea. Thanks for the advice. That sounds like a pretty accurate description. Didn't have much chores, if any at all. Went to public school, it was terrible. No theater or clubs, but played sports a little when I was very young. Stopped doing that in middle school, though. I was raised Catholic, went to sunday school up until confirmation but it was more of a tradition thing than anything. My parents never really brought me to church. I should mention I'm (still?) a Christian, though I don't have anything to do with the Catholic tradition any more.

Sorry if I wasn't clear, it's not that there aren't things I like doing, it's that I don't have the motivation to do them. I waste my time doing unimportant things.

Does anyone here have any tips around productivity? I find that I spend most of my days doing nothing of value. It's hard for me to motivate myself to do anything productive. Even if I manage to start, I don't last very long. I really want to spend more of my time on my health (self knowledge, excercising, eating right), and being productive (writing, reading, honing skills, etc.)

My Brothers reaction to the bomb in the brain series
OtherOtie replied to Sinatra0124's topic in Self Knowledge
That doesn't even sound like resistence, to be honest. The first time someone suggested to me that my childhood might be important I didn't really get it either.- 8 replies

Not bad. I agree with Nathan that it is a bit too long. Also, I think you go off topic a lot. This free market stuff, that's all great, but it's not directly relevant to the moral question surrounding taxation. It doesn't matter what the free market can and cannot do it. You want to make the moral argument that taxation is theft; which, to be honest, isn't a very hard argument to make. It's cutting through the propoganda that's difficult. So what I think you want to do is make the argument briefly in the beginning and then run through the counter arguments (aka propoganda) as you get around to doing. Stay focused on the moral argument. These practical issues and concerns can be dealt with in another video.

So Dawkins posted a tweet: Wait a minute... all white men?! Feminism will not stand for this... Richard emerges with a new perspective on life: Enjoy.

Someone on my Facebook posted something about a construction job in the city for $15-20 an hour. I'll see if I can get some more info if that interests you. -
I was listening to a podcast from a couple years ago and someone asked Stef how he prefers his name to be pronounced. He said he prefers "Stefen" (like in "Stephanie"). This confused me because he always says his name as Stef-on. Not really a major question but why does he pronounce his name differently from how he prefers it? Just a small curiosity I had.

So apparently at some event, Daughtry performed and was then asked to give an encore. The man respectfully, if not a tad awkwardly, declined. I really sympathize with the fact that both the anchors and the crowd were pressuring him to give an encore; it's sort of a dick move. If he doesn't do it, he looks like an ass. But it doesn't even look like his band was prepared, they could have all been really tired, or who knows what? Apparently asserting his preference not to give an encore was something worthy of an apology... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nhV9k3gO87s ...especially because he... failed to honor the troops? Sometimes I just can't stomach the degree of military propoganda these public figures regurgitate. I don't know if Daughtry is really that big a fan of the military or what, but the whole demeanor of this apology just doesn't sit well with me. I respect if he felt he had made a comment in bad taste, but the groveling, the sucking up, the belittling of one's self (you couldn't do what you do if it weren't for the wars in iraq and afghanistan... really?)... Just wanted to share my reaction.

If I'm right in thinking he was the founder of this approach, is his book any good, or is there better material out there that has developed IFS more helpfully? (Just because you founded something doesn't mean you've perfected it, I wouldn't really read Darwin to gain knowledge of evolutionary biology these days...) Is the book worth 17 bucks?

I don't understand how he could claim you're making a fallacy about a definition. Arguments can be fallacious, but definitions really can't (unless they're self-contradictory). I think he is really trying to confuse the issue in order to shut it down without having to offer an argument or address yours. It's fair to define morality as objective and then proceed to ask whether that exists. At that point, a question is being posed, that's all. Then you make your argument (UPB, etc.) and he would have to address the premises or form of that argument. He can say that he doesn't want to define morality as objective, and he's free to do that, but then you can't really have a debate. You need to start by pinning down the thing in question before you can ask whether it exists. I think it may be helpful to stop using the word "morality" altogether because it just has all of this baggage. Forget it for the sake of the debate. Say you want to talk about whether universally prefferable behavior exists or is valid. That's much more specific than "morality" which he can weasel out of quite easily.

I'm not sure what you mean by deep. Do you mean a deep storyline, or deep gameplay?
