  1. His degree is in chemistry I believe, but maybe he mentioned friends majoring in that and I'm forgetting something. Either way it's a complete waste of his life and intellect. As for locations you could possibly move to I have a few ideas. First thought, do you have any friends or family (that isn't terrible) living out of state? I didn't pick Iowa on purpose, I had a friend who was moving out there with some family they offered me a place to stay until I got on my feet. Next idea is to look into employment opportunities across state lines. If you can find a job and have a little money saved beforehand you could do the move with relative ease. As far as places to look I would consider republican states, preferably the ones without income taxes. They tend to be the least restrictive and the strongest economically.
  2. 1) The decision lies with the parents. Society, the neighborhood or whoever else are not the ones taking the risk. The child is at risk and since they are unable to make their own decision it obviously lies with the parents. 2) It lies with the parents. You are making the decision! To allow other people to analyze the available information for you is allowing someone else to make the decision for you and thusly betraying your commitment to your child. As far as the specific topic I would like to give you my stance as a father. Being for or against vaccines are both terrible positions to hold. This isn't sports yet most people involved in the debate are treating it like one by picking a side and cheering their team on to"victory". The fact of the matter is vaccine's are good. In fact that doesn't go far enough, vaccines are one of the main reasons our society is able to exist. However there is a lot of money and government involvement in the vaccine business. So after doing a lot of reading on both sides my wife and I decided to address vaccines on a case by case basis. We have gone over the list and decided which ones we would risk exposing our children too and which ones we would avoid (why the fuck does a baby need a Hep B vaccine?!!!!). Then we discuss our modified list with our doctor. What is his stance on vaccines? Where does he source his vaccines? Why are they administered so early? Is it really necessary to pump a three day old full of vaccines? What would happen if we put some of them off till later? Then we make a final decision of which vaccines and when we should get them.
  3. I can see the point in acknowledging the progress made by generations passed. However bring critical of those who came before us is what allows us to continue to progress. Should I forgive the shitty upbringing I was given and instead credit my parents for doing a better job? Well I'm not sure let's think. If instead of hating the way they were raised my parents had decided to applaud their parents for doing a better job then the prior generation would they have given me the same upbringing? Maybe, and while I received shit what my parents got was orders of magnitude worse. So maybe they do deserve some credit for taking the step forward it will not serve my children to hold onto that feeling for more then a moment's time. Because as I said I still got shit, and I have much work to do in order to hand something much better off to my grandchildren.
  4. Have you considered moving out of California? Living on your own is surely a daunting task in a state with such a high cost of living. However supporting yourself is much much easier in a myriad of much more affordable locations. The day I turned 18 I moved from Southern California where I grew up to Iowa. The cost of living there is so low I was able to survive quite easily on minimum wage, which at the time was $5.15 an hour, until I got my GED and moved into my now career. Also while college can be good, at least as far as this broken society is concerned, heading out into the work force can potentially be much better. I'm a high school drop out with zero college who simply worked very hard since I was 18 and I make more money then most of the college educated, and indebted, people I know. Hell my cousin just finished getting his masters in California, realized no one wanted to give him a job and decided to go for a phd simply because the college offered to continue his scholarship and in his eyes he had nothing else to do.
  5. A friendly bump from one graphic artist to another
  6. It doesn't need to be directly malicious. It could be tied in to an inability to properly think, some people legitimately believe emotions can be used as justification for wrong doing. Or it could be a simple self defense mechanism People who don't want to be held accountable can instead choose to excuse and forgive the same behaviors in others because it prevents them from seeing themselves as they truly are. Regardless I hope you confront him on his failures in thinking and I'm excited to hear what you have to say afterwards. A question I hope you ask is what he thinks of children who hit other children and what an appropriate parental response would be. I remember when my son hit a girl and how angry I was at him until the thought struck me, "I hit him for doing wrong why the hell wouldn't he start hitting people he thinks wronged him?!" That thought exposed me to my own moral relativism and started me down the road I'm on today
  7. The idea of the girlfriend in both fantasies seems important. While I like the analysis already given to you about the first fantasy I think something has yet to be pointed out. Based on the last part I believe you have a desire to find a woman who will love you and heal you. This is where the second fantasy ties in. Your subconscious desire to be saved by a woman is unsatisfied. Thus your second fantasy is created as a way to explain and excuse this failure. If this at all rings true to you then I would first start with questions regarding your relationship with your mother. Any desire to have a woman rescue you is explicitly the fault of her failing you as a child.
  8. Citing empathy as a reason for inaction is another excuse a weak person would make. They are afraid of the potential conflict that would result and cite being empathetic as an excuse. Avoiding confrontation over moral and principle issues due to fear and empathy towards another's feelings leads to stagnation and eventual moral decline in society. You can see evidence of that all around western societies. Your friend lacks confidence in his own convictions, or lacks a basic set of morals all together. I doubt a simple conversation will do much to help him. He needs to learn to reason and accept universal morality as a truth before he will get any better.
  9. Empathy is an important thing to have as a person. This fact allows people to twist and confuse the definition of empathy in order to benefit themselves. This is an obvious example of the phenomena in action. Your buddy thinks empathizing with bad parents means excusing their behavior because "reasons". He is acting like just because someone feels an emotion we need to empathize and excuse the actions they take afterward. This is utter nonsense of course since it totally circumvents morals and virtue by creating a situation where your actions are excused based on your emotional state and your motivation. True empathy would mean being understanding and sympathetic to the abusive parents in regards to their own childhood's. While still holding them accountable for how they act to towards their own children.
  10. I really dislike the use of "disrespected" as a reason for anything. The word has no universal meaning and has absolutely no value when discussing moral principles. This allows the word to be used as an excuse for shitty people to behave badly and aggress upon those around them with a supposed justification. The reality of the situation you proposed is really quite simple. A promise was made and broken. This is understandable due to emergency circumstances arising. However the wrong doing occurred when the person who made the commitment did not contact the other person to inform them they would not show. While this would have been understandable 150 years ago it's 2014 and communication is instant and can be done without effort. All it would have taken was a simple text message sent to notify the other party you would not be there. The fact this was not done shows you do not value their time, which also means you do not value them. So what person A is calling disrespect is actually the realization that person B is selfish and cares little for their relationship. While what person B calls disrespect is simply them trying to defend their wrong doing and justify their continued denial of the truth.
  11. Thanks for the link to your thread here Wesley. This is a really great thread
  12. Sir I don't think anyone cares what you have to say anymore. Throughout all of your threads on this board you have refused honest debate and proven yourself to be a hypocrite. After all if you can't even begin to live the things you preach in your daily life then why should I?
  13. You didn't read my post because you didn't actually respond to the content of it, you just responded to one sentence you picked out and ranted about. I'm not proposing violence. I'm simply proposing the government continues to do what it is already doing, and I have no chance of stopping, to the point of self destruction. If anything I am doing more to prevent violence then you are because i'm actually thinking up realistic ways to bring down the government. You're just sitting here telling me i'm wrong while presenting no realistic alternative. Also why would the enforcer class say no? How has the faith in government been shaken enough to lead to that? How are we going to ever achieve a free state when most of the people who want to fight against the things our government is currently doing just want to institute a government of their design? Really I am not proposing an armed revolution. Simply a course of action if one should occur or if the government falls under its own weight, the much more preferable option. I got side tracked a bit trying to press you to actually present an idea of your own and referenced them as an example. Though on a side note the technology thing is total nonsense because Afghanistan. We can't defeat a bunch of people living like cavemen armed with assault rifles what makes you think we could defeat ourselves? Though this really isn't the topic because it honestly is not something I would ever want to see, I just can't resist not rebutting that statement.
  14. This whole saving the wolves thing seems like a terrible idea. I know nature and all that, but I really don't care to have wolves running around where people live. We used to be very afraid of them as a species and there was damn good reason for it. Particularly since these wolves they are bringing back are NOT the wolves that used to live there. Some idiot decided we needed to replace the basically extinct population of gray wolves that were native with the Canadian Timber Wolf (a subspecies of the gray wolf that is a MUCH larger animal).
  15. I really don't think you read all the words in my post, or if you did you just ignored them in favor of saying what you wanted regardless of the statements I made. Anyway, if you have all the answers on how this should go down please propose them. It would also be awesome if you could show examples of where and when this strategy has been employed in history as well that would be great. We all know the armed revolution has worked, as well as the idea of replacing a collapsed system with a new one. So my ideas are based in reality.
  16. I live near Sparta TN. Though I'm currently sitting at Tyson in Goodlettsville
  17. I'm sorry but when I read this post I couldn't help but quote it. This is one of the greatest things ever written on this forum and everyone needs to know this. On topic. To the OP, why does your religion produce so many violent psychopaths?
  18. My response would be "no pictures no thread" lol But really someone who believe in that utter nonsense is so dumb and broken that I do not have the patience to begin to help them. You literally have to break them down and teach them to think, something that should of started the moment they were born. With no foundation to build upon and numerous years of life serving to reinforce their retardation I'm not sure they can be fixed.
  19. So in the opinions of this threads regulars how should a bitcoin virgin start on the path towards investing?
  20. You seem to think I want to save everyone. I agree if our goal is to take a whole country, in this case the US, and convert it to a free society you are entirely correct! However I don't care to save everyone. I want a power vacuum big enough that a group of people who already see the truth can take an area for themselves. I have a family to concern myself with so I'm not really sympathetic to those ignorant masses who choose to empower this system that abuses my children. I want to save my own and I'm happy to work alongside anyone else who already sees things the correct way. It's my opinion this struggle cannot be won with simply words. I don't see how we can possibly talk the statists down. So to avoid a full on civil war the best solution I can see is to drive this thing into the ground. Then maybe a movement like the free state society can really form a legitimate free state in the emptiness left behind.
  21. I'm really happy to see that you are obviously interested in doing what is best for your children. They are extremely lucky to have you and your wife as parents. As an aside isn't it sad that in our modern "progressive" society parents who actually put the needs of their children ahead of their own is something that needs to be praised and isn't just expected as the norm? Anyways, the number one suggestion me and my wife have, I actually did talk to her about this, is to take some time to decompresses before you really jump in. Your children aren't going to be harmed by not having any formal lessons for a while and there will be a necessary adjustment period as everyone gets used to the changes. So just take a break and be with your children. Give them their new freedom and see what they do with it on their own. You'll get to know them better as people, your bond will grow and I think you will quickly see how much they learn by just living life alongside a parent who cares enough to talk to them and answer questions. Don't try and rush them into an educated adulthood. They are only children for so long, why waste that valuable time on lesson plans?
  22. Standing on the moral high ground and talking about how we are all going to win a war of ideas is really nice and all. I'm just not of the opinion that talking is going to get anything done. So while I'm not saying we should all grab guns and storm the capital I do not think a peaceful solution is possible. My observations of my fellow Americans has led me to two conclusions. 1. As long as the State appears to be functioning they will support it. So our government needs to be in serious decline before any movement gains real reaction 2. There will be a lot of people unwilling to see things change and willing to perpetrate violence on us to see things not change. There are just to many people around who think their way is the right way and it's okay to use violence to force people to do things their way. So your statement is great for a discussion and it sounds really nice when Stefan says similar things. However a real peaceful change starting with changing the way people think will take generations. However I have children and if I want them to see something better that isn't going to cut it. So let's bring on the extreme growth in government and drive this thing into the ground already!
  23. That article is awesome. I say we do it all right now. Drive this dying country into the ground in a hurry
  24. I'm so excited. The US Government's madness is accelerating at what appears to be a really great pace. Lets keep this up, I say we all vote democrat all the time and call our representatives constantly pushing for all the big government nonsense that's being talked about. We can start off by making that Oregon statute mentioned in the article nationwide. And lets give people two months paid leave for a death in the family, and for a sickness, and for a baby being born and whatever else we can think of! Then we need that $15 minimum wage some democrats have been talking about. And obviously Obamacare is a failure so lets just do a single payer system already. Whatever it takes to bankrupt this country as quickly as possible I support. The sooner this shit blows up, the sooner the anarchists can work to take over a bit of space to start a free society.
