  1. Do you think the tactic of "Who's idea was this?" is meant to pit the two brothers against each other? I can't think of an answer that would result in a way out of punishment. You know they were thinking hard because of the long pauses... If they tell the truth they get punished; if they lie they're punished for not being honest. So instead they tried to be cute and innocent, maybe something that had worked when they were younger. Afterward the dad practically has a break down. I thought he was going to lose his wits when I heard the sudden laughter. They never learned why what they did was wrong, simply that daddy doesn't like it. Poor kids.
  2. I enjoyed this essay by Albert Nock. His concept of 'The Remnant' resonated profoundly with me. It occurs to me that this is how all progress sprouts in human evolution. The public preaching of Isaiah and Plato is quite similar to what our dear Stef has undertaken here. Read: https://mises.org/library/isaiahs-job Listen: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wnZJKRGLaaE
  3. Welcome, oh new one. I was just reading about the recent protests in Brazil led by young libertarians and right-leaning comedians. Question for you: If I were to venture to South America for a short getaway, would you recommend Venezuela? Note: I don't speak Spanish.
  4. I think the work is original. Yes to going viral.
  5. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xvz4nRD131o&feature=youtu.be The Odyssey is one of the oldest literary/oratory works in history and is referenced ubiquitously in literature and everyday culture. Is it any more than ancient propaganda? And what can this epic homecoming story teach us about our societies and our families today? I give you: 'The Philosophy of The Odyssey'.
  6. Not sure what you're looking for specifically, but I recommend Cooley for entrepreneurs in particular. They also give away a lot of documents and info for free on their startup-facing website.
  7. I don't have the Mafia board game but it sounds like something I'd enjoy. Keep me in the loop please.
  8. Pleasure to make your acquaintance!
  9. Superb video, Kevin. I followed up with my own video on forgiveness after reading and responding to some of the comments on yours. I hope it's useful and adds to the conversation. Please share what you think. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2WCN_YTyytU&feature=youtu.be
  10. I second Patrick's remarks. You could call me a MGTOW with regard to 99% of women. I would rather say I have very high standards. Will I be disappointed if I never get married or have kids? Perhaps, but not as disappointed as I'd be if I married the wrong woman.

  12. Hmmm, it might be possible that an anarchist would simply rather invest their capital in other areas, e.g. building a business, spreading philosophy, or forgoing a paycheck to commit to parenting. Nevertheless, these are very pretty pieces. I hope someone takes you up on the commission.
  13. This guy is great. Make sure you watch all three videos, the last one is the best. http://www.philosophyformula.com/
  14. I think we can learn a lot from Christianity in terms of community and emphasis on family values. I wonder how we can implement some of their tried and true methods, without the contradictions. What is the evidence that joining forces with Christians will help win the fight against the state? It's possible that atheists who are on the fence about statism will look at our efforts and say, These guys don't really believe what they're saying because they're willing to compromise on fundamental truths about reality. Metaphysics is the first branch of philosophy, and philosophy is the first in a series of steps that leads to successful outcomes. I think the "wouldn't it be great if...[we could dress philosophy up and serve it to Christians]" statement is a temptation which ought to be avoided. The Christians will come to us, not the other way around.
  15. Can you explain more about what you mean by bringing Christians to our side? Is the goal to convince Christians to raise their children better? To have more support against the state?...
  16. Hi Sean! Your vulnerability is very appreciated. I know the fear very well. I'm sure I don't have to tell you that any change that's worthwhile is never easy. Sounds like your protectors have been working really hard, which is understandable given your history. Welcome!
  17. Part 1: A Comparison of Common Objections https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lkfg0L-bEgU&feature=youtu.be Illusions of the State Voters have a choice If you don't like this country you can leave it or go live in the woods Government is the price you pay to live in a civilized society Has anarchy ever worked? Problem of the commons But there would be crime everywhere Is this because you're angry at your family? Myths of the Family Parents didn't have a choice Parents can't move or change jobs to protect their kid Don't you dare tell me how to raise my kid! Stop focusing on all the bad stuff and ignoring the good stuff They fed you and gave you shelter, didn't they? So you think that everything is abuse, huh? Stop psychoanalyzing me!
  18. "Let's try to practice these a little every day." That is to say that every day will be filled with circumstances in which these ten things are virtuous responses. I don't think that's the case at all. If a father is screaming at his child is it virtuous to respond with humor, patience, forgiveness, or politeness... all things he is not showing towards the child? I would say anger would be more appropriate and "being nice" is actually unjust. People like checklists because then being virtuous feels more manageable -- just do these 5 easy tricks and you too can be a good person! I'm skeptical any time someone is selling me an easy diet.
  19. FDR, Happy spring! We're going to have a picnic meetup on Sunday, April 12. Stay tuned for location and time. We hope to meet outside somewhere with green grass. If you want to come, please send me a pm so that I know how much food to plan for. Matt
  20. I wonder if any of the leftists who make these wildly non-universal moral statements have ever spent even one day in the presence of an actual business owner. If they had, they would know that the supposedly infinite power that the 'fat cats' hold is dwarfed by the pulls of customers, shareholders, and employees, and you spend your entire day focused on how to make as many people happy as possible. The real system of checks and balances is freedom of association.
  21. Sorry, I didn't intentionally ignore your post, ETU. I agree with you that children must be bullied or manipulated into believing in irrational ideas like a deity. We know this because churches convert very few adults instead relying on helpless children to maintain the religion's hold on society. As Kevin indicated, the fallout after religion has been inflicted on children is not the only path to nihilism, communism, or relativism. However, I adamantly agree it would be unlikely, if not impossible, for a child who was raised peacefully to end up drawn to such inane anti-logic. How did you come to the conclusion in your final paragraph? I think you have to make the case... where's the evidence this will work? Firstly shame and not doing business with someone are not exactly one and the same. And secondly, shunning the business of religious parents will be an economic loss for the person doing the shunning as well. Now, if you wanted to make website that listed atheist business owners and encouraged atheist parents to get behind this (sort of like cage-free eggs)... well, then I think you might be cooking with gas. What do you think?
  22. Cool! Writing a book on the mecosystem is an ambitious task to take on, but I'm glad someone is doing it. As someone who is undergoing IFS therapy myself I still have many questions about it. I will try to write from the perspective of someone new to the idea since that's what you asked for. 1. Am I crazy if I debate with myself? 2. Is there something that ties all of the parts together? 3. I heard that your parts can have parts.... that sounds really complex. How do you keep it all straight? 4. Is this theory backed up by science? 5. Is it true that everyone I meet in my dreams is a part? 6. Is it true that all parts are based on people I have met in my conscious life? 7. I watched the show Dexter, who supposedly had a 'dark passenger'. Can some parts be irredeemably evil? Send me a pm if you want to talk about your exciting project privately.
  23. I appreciated this list; some of these I would do well to mull over. Let's face it, most women want a man with a good solid career, humor, and a natural confidence. Libertarianism isn't about implementing values in your life to make real change, so of course women who are looking for a provider aren't going to be attracted to it. I don't identify as libertarian. I'm a philosopher, which I'm sure has it's own list of hard truths from women. (e.g: don't ask her if her parents were abusive on the first date) Why is it about getting laid? Is it to increase click thru? "Why you're still single" doesn't have the seem ring, or maybe there are a lot of libertarian guys who only care about sex. Thanks for sharing.
  24. How can we decipher the media propaganda around Indiana's Religious Freedom Restoration Act? In my opinion, the media reaction demonstrates a recurring pattern of finding a scapegoat for wrongdoers. It goes something like this: "Hey look! Someone is doing bad things with their property... we need a war on drugs, a war on guns, a war on free speech, or a war on freedom because bad people are actually not the ones responsible for their actions." Check out my videocast below for more ranting. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5VW2jREocMA&feature=youtu.be
  25. An hopeful thought but I'm not sure there is evidence to support your claim. It seems to me like liberals then change their tactics to focus on the poor who can't afford to pay the fine and how we should therefore steal more from the rich. (e.g. John Oliver)
