12 Reasons Why I Think Trump Should Win The Presidency
Pelafina replied to vahleeb's topic in Current Events
Advocating and voting for Trump to be president can be viewed as self defense against the threatened use of force of Hillary or Sanders. -
Is Young Earth Science (YES) a thing?
Pelafina replied to YoungEarthSciGuy's topic in Science & Technology
From the physics department of Georgia State University: However, there are two obvious problems with radioactive dating for geological purposes: 1) uncertainty about the composition of the original sample and 2) possible losses of material during the time span of the decay. http://hyperphysics.phy-astr.gsu.edu/hbase/nuclear/clkroc.html Don't you hate it when scientists know they are guessing and playing with the truth, but they try to hide it because they need to feel like they have all the answers? -
Is Young Earth Science (YES) a thing?
Pelafina replied to YoungEarthSciGuy's topic in Science & Technology
Reason, logic and evidence demonstrates that science is very weak in coming to firm conclusions. Don't make science your god, because science hasn't even begun to figure out the age of the earth. Make the scientific method your god instead, and admit that we are not there yet in terms of firm conclusions. -
Is Young Earth Science (YES) a thing?
Pelafina replied to YoungEarthSciGuy's topic in Science & Technology
It's sad that science hasn't reached any firm conclusions on the age of the earth. -
Can someone explain why the media says that a low or dropping oil price is bad for the economy? Aren't low prices good for the consumer? And everyone is a consumer of energy.

Voting can be viewed as asking a criminal gang to rule over you and everyone else, which means you're aiding and abetting the criminals. Some people say that voting is an act of self defense because you know you will be ruled by someone, but you choose the lesser of two evils.

Working on a fun way to describe thinking about religion
Pelafina replied to NGardner's topic in Atheism and Religion
You can think of many examples where the correct answer seems obvious, but you were wrong because of the counter-intuitive nature of the solution. Things are seldom what they seem. -

Alex Jones & Donald Trump Bombshell Full Interview
Pelafina replied to Sayo's topic in Current Events
Trump has said many times that he wants to avoid war by increasing the strength of the US military. Also, he has said that he wants to make friends with Putin. He's the most anti-war candidate out there. -
I'm saying that science says that disorder must increase over time. But over millions of years we have seen an increase in order that occurred spontaneously. Over time life forms get more complex. This violates the 2nd law of thermodynamics.
-
Why does evolution violate the 2nd law of thermodynamics which states that over time disorder increases. In evolution, there is an increase in order.

Getting to the Truth - is logic & reason the only way??
Pelafina replied to Pelafina's topic in Philosophy
I'm sure you can think of many examples when someone used intuition or emotions and arrived at the correct answer. -
Photo of light as both a particle and a wave
Pelafina replied to shirgall's topic in Science & Technology
Scientists say that photons have rest mass, but no mass when they are on the move. They have more kinetic energy when moving, which means they must have more mass when moving not zero mass when moving. Why does the (relativistic) mass of an object increase when its speed approaches that of light?http://physics.stackexchange.com/questions/1686/why-does-the-relativistic-mass-of-an-object-increase-when-its-speed-approaches -

They have mass at rest but no mass when the move. This non-logical conclusion by scientists is being made because they are attempting to prove that they know what they are talking about, when in fact they are seriously confused about the nature of the universe. -
Getting to the Truth - is logic & reason the only way??
Pelafina replied to Pelafina's topic in Philosophy
Some answers are simply the wrong answer which means you are incapable of answering questions. -
I used to believe that in order to get to the truth you must use the tools of logic and evidence to get there. But the success of logic getting a rational person to the truth is nowhere near 100%. For example, there are many questions still left unanswered after reason and evidence and science is applied. The truth is many times left unknown, and there is nothing wrong with that. So my question is, what if you can get to the truth using something other than logic? How do you know that this new tool is invalid? What if intuition or feelings get you to the truth? What if I provide you with many examples where the tool of intuition/feelings got people to the truth? What if you even provide me with more examples? How do you know that intuition is better or worse than logic as a tool to get one to the truth?

Attributes are not opposite? A wave has zero mass. A photon has positive mass. How can light both have mass and not have mass? -

Pelafina replied to shirgall's topic in Science & Technology
Philosophy is about (1) logic, and (2) evidence. There is no reason to do an experiment if the hypothesis is illogical. There is no reason to run a test to check if 1+1=5. -

Pelafina replied to shirgall's topic in Science & Technology
In physics, an electro-magnetic wave is the oscillation of an electric field which induces a magnetic field. The magnetic field then induces an electric field and this repeats as the wave propagates at the speed of light in all directions. Light cannot be an EM field (which has no mass) and simultaneously a photon particle with mass, because this fails the test of logic. It's better philosophically to admit you don't know something, than to have an emotional attachment to the need to demonstrate complex knowledge and being wrong. -

And one thing can be two different things at the same time? This is illogical, therefore the scientists failed the first test of philosophy. Back to the drawing board for them.
