  1. A very cogent argument. I think the term "anarchy" has more than a few image problems, clearly, and I think Stef has addressed some of those issues. There is a problem with 'anarchy' being used interchangeably with 'chaos' and 'disorder'. This causes two problems, IMO -- it keeps people in a fog of false illusion about what we actually stand for and they're less likely to investigate anarchy. But also there are the 'black bloc' folks who are attracted to anarchy because they want to act out childish tantrums and think that wanton property crimes are perfectly okay and don't give a shit about NAP. There is a 'chicness' about anarchy because its seen as dangerous and rebellious. I think people who don't accept NAP but nonetheless use the same term to describe themselves is a more dangerous effect of the misuse of anarchy than failing to attract the right people because they also have a false perception of what it means to be an anarchist.
  2. Welcome, Hoppriori (Is that Hoppe + a priori?)!
  3. And I'm all for cheap, safe, effective birth control -- even the morning after pill RU485 -- I have no moral issue with that (as I do have with a late term abortion where a baby is trying desperately to avoid the fatal instrument in kicking, screaming survival mode). But I damn well don't want to pay for it! And I also don't have enough money and time to fight it in the courts.
  4. If you don't think you have the will power to resist the sexual advances of this other woman, then you probably don't truly love your g.f. How / why would you consider putting yourself in a situation like that if it would hurt the woman you claim to love? If you want to have a romantic relationship with the other woman -- great -- but you need to do the right thing and consider your g.f. -- tell her you want to see other people and put the ball in her court. Also, and crucially, you are not being honest with this other woman because you haven't and are not telling her about your g.f. If you truly love your g.f. and want to be virtuous in your relationship with the other woman, then you'll tell the other woman about your g.f., right?
  5. Hey TLFreedom -- I saw lot of good info already posted. I saw DLMoore posted a link to the 4 Hour Body -- the "Slow Carb" diet is easy to follow -- you can eat as much as you want 6 days a week (of foods that are on the Slow Carb food list). On your "cheat day" you can eat whatever you want. This way you dont have to stick to eating times and measured amounts. I'd get a pressure cooker and / or a slow cooker and prepare beans, legumes, lentils. If you use a pressure cooker, it breaks down the lecithin that causes gas. You can use dried legumes, which are much cheaper (addressing your earlier post about solo living), without soaking before hand. Paleo-fanatics are plain wrong about legumes, IMO. A great resource is Elliot Hulse -- he is super smart and just a total stud (I think he has been California's Strongest Man the last few years running). I've seen a lot of youtube "experts" and this guy practices a wholistic method, rather than just merely aesthetic bodybuilding. His routines and advice are scientifically based best practices. These might be the videos you need: He says: 1. Change diet to legumes and leafy green vegetables. Possibly take a multivitamin (often we get hunger or cravings from being undernourished and deficient in a certain nutrient. If you cover your essential nutrients you'll be less likely to snack healthfully (when your brain is releasing hunger hormones seeking those missing nutrients [many obese people are horribly undernourished in basic minerals]). Don't drink soda pop (unless its your cheat day)! Drink bottled water (cheapest is in refillable gallon jugs at supermarket), not tap water, and plenty of it. Fuck variety -- legumes and leafy greens (chard, beet greens, arugula, spring mix -- the darker and more bitter, the better!) deliver most of the nutrients you need. Consume most of your vegetables raw or lightly steamed. Also, Almond Milk is great -- try to go "dairyless" all together. I have some issues with soymilk. Flax Seed, and nuts and seeds generally, are good. Tim Ferriss of the 4 Hour Body swears by Brazil Nuts for boosting natural testosterone. 2. Walk for 30 mins everyday. Loose the weight, then take up a strength training program. Running releases a lot of cortisol, so biking, walking, walking up stairs, and ellipticals are better. 3. Have definite goals and commit. Your persistence is the key. Start small and slow and develop the discipline to do bigger and bigger things. Be tenacious in chasing down greater and greater achievements. Be confident you can achieve your goals -- know it can happen through hard work (and hard work only!!!), and it wont happen overnight or even the first month. This has to be a lifestyle change, not a diet. Hope this helps -- I honor and validate your desire to make big changes in your life, TruthLogicFreedom! Commitment to working hard is the key.
  6. I think voluntarists need to call statists on the use of "we" and "our". Most every statist you talk to isnt part of the power structure -- wasn't a member of the enforcement class (a cop or soldier) or a policymaker (parasitical politician scum), and he believes in "our" national interests, and "our military". I assure you, they are not part of the club! This kind of "our / we" relationship to power is a kind of childish "reflected glory" that excuses abusers. I believe this reflected glory is seeded in a kind of mass Stockholm Syndrome that worships the power of the state, and has more to do with their childhood relationships and experiences with their parents exercise of power that it does with the actions of the state, which you correctly identify as uncivilized and without virtue.
  7. Was it an argument or a debate? The point of a debate isn't to win, SamuelS, as you put it (I got into an argument I can't win), but to discover the truth.
  8. In her post about "tone policing", A Femanist is seemingly very disrespectful to you, Wanha, by saying that just because "rape culture isn't nice" and that "it doesn't need to be explained nicely [to you]". I would ask her, ''why doesn't rape culture need to be explained 'nicely', if not civilly, just because the topic is about a horrible, horrible subject?'' If asserting a preference for civil discourse is dismissed as "tone policing", then she is obviously just wanting to control the debate and "railroad" you, and she's not worth debating with because no truth can possibly be uncovered in a debate with such a person on this topic.
  9. "GMOs" are a terribly inaccurate term. Anything with two parents is "genetically modified" -- rDNA modifies and sequences random genes from both parents. DylanLawrenceMoore asserts another term, "GEO", which I'm okay with. However, the technical term that has been used in interviews I've conducted with plant scientists and agronomists at Iowa State University (probably the world's leading institution doing this type of research) used to discuss plants that have had genes of bacteria, animals, and other plants spliced into their genetic structure is "transgenic". I think its a more accurate term than GMO. As far as the safety of actually eating transgentic organisms, I'm still forming my opinions. Is this just the next step in agricultural technology like the steel tipped plow or crop rotation? Or are they being created to rewrite and patent and monetize the entire biosphere. Personally, my farm is all organic (what vegetable isn't), which means no herbicides and some naturally derived pesticide (pyganic) -- we use no "transgentic" seeds. Transgenetics are used mostly in corn, soy and cotton to keep them safe from glyphosate (RoundUp) applications. Here are a few interesting articles, especially the first one. http://www.independent.co.uk/environment/gm-food-banned-in-monsanto-canteen-737948.html http://www.scientificamerican.com/article/study-linking-genetically-modified-corn-to-cancer/ http://www.motherearthnews.com/natural-health/gmo-safety-zmgz13amzsto.aspx
  10. Sure, if you're approached by another woman and she clearly wants some sort of romantic relationship while you're in a relationship with your gf (of only 6 months), then you have some options, clearly. You're still in the driver's seat, dmart. I think the advice in my earlier post still applies. If you want to explore a romantic relationship with the other woman, then you need to tell your current gf about your feelings. If you have a friend that knows both young ladies, see if you can go through a pro / con exercise for each woman and help organize your feelings and possible plans of action (e.g. breaking up with current gf, or explaining to the other woman that you're in a committed relationship and you'd not like anymore "advances", if that's whats happened). Keep it simple.
  11. Brother, clearly it's perfectly okay to feel attracted towards other women while in a serious relationship, there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. Maybe I'm missing something, but do you see being attracted towards other women as a problem (or an unmanageable problem) for you? If so, then why? If you're in love with this woman and committed to her, then obviously don't cheat on her. If you want to see other people, then tell her. Do suppress any advances that you make towards other women if you're still involved with your gf, but don't suppress your feelings of sexual attraction -- acknowledge them as perfectly valid!
  12. Sure, great -- Hobby Lobby gets out of directly subsidizing birth control in insurance plans offered to employees because the owner has the time and money to take his case all the way to the Supreme Court. And good for him, he stuck to his principles. Meanwhile, the rest of "We the Slaves" are still forced to pay for it through higher premiums and / or higher taxes. Totally sick.
  13. Both knowledge and faith are subsets of belief. Religion presupposes faith in a (undetectable) deity, but not knowledge of a deity because knowledge requires empirical, verifiable evidence (therefore, faith). Atheism has no such faith. It is rather the logical conclusion with knowledge, reason, and evidence (and the lack of knowledge and evidence) applied to the question of the existence of a deity. It is a belief, yes, as faith is also a belief -- but atheism is not a religion. The two knock down retorts are pretty good -- ''bald is not a hair color'', and ''not collecting stamps is a hobby, if atheism is a religion''. "If atheism is a religion, then silence is a sound". If he wants more, then truth is discovered by simply defining 'religion'. (ironchariots.org has some other interesting arguments). Beyond that, atheism is not even a coherent set of beliefs, but just a simple and reasoned 'no' in response to god propositions. That's all it is! Keep it simple.
  14. I'm sorry about your abusive situation, TLF. You've made a good decision in deciding to leave! Now do it! Try to find an efficiency apartment (where your landlord pays your utilities) for less than 1/4 of your income. I currently pay $550 per month and I have no electric or gas bill. This is very often your largest expense. Preferably your apartment has a washer and dryer that isn't coin-operated...Pets are going to be a limiting factor -- likely your landlord will charge you up to $25 - $50 per animal...! Consider giving them up for adoption...Hey, you said 'solo'! I try to spend less than $200 per month on groceries / eating out. Eating out for lunch or by yourself is a huge waste of money -- people are literally eating their potential retirement savings. A slow cooker / crock pot is a really good investment for a bachelor. There are tons of crock pot recipes online -- make it up the night before, keep it in the fridge and then cook on low all day while you're at work. If you're unsure how to cook, then check out youtube. I like Gordon Ramsay's Ultimate Cookery Course. Vegetables are cheap -- don't be afraid to eat the same healthy foods day after day -- fuck variety! Clothing -- I will only buy clothes (besides socks and underwear) at quality consignment stores. Even season ending sales at retail clothing stores and big box stores are marked-up 20 - 30% of what the garment actually cost the retailer. I recently bought 6 khaki shorts (IZOD, GAP) for $30. Consignment stores are very selective, unlike Goodwill and Salvation Army, but you should still look for stains and rips. A membership to a warehouse buying club (like Sams Club or Costco) may be worth it for buying dog food in bulk. Sometimes feed stores have bulk buying discounts. Shelter, food, clothing -- everything else is extraneous! Other advice -- throw away your TV (I haven't owned a TV since 2006) and forget cable bills. Sell your console system and games -- read more books instead. Pay off your credit card in full every month -- credit cards have predatory lending rates sometimes approaching 30%...! Gym memberships are often a good value if they're between $30 - $40 per month -- good for psychological health and less than healthcare for preventable diseases. Consistently a common theme in interviews with self-made millionaires is that they live below their means. Its possible to live on $700 (or less) per month where I live. Take your savings and build up an emergency fund of 3 months living expenses (in a separate account and don't touch it), then invest in a ROTH IRA (you're now able to buy and hold gold tax free), saving fiat in money market funds for a future business venture, Bitcoin, playing the dating field, or donating to the show...!
