Anarchist Commentaries Episode
yagami replied to AynRand's topic in Libertarianism, Anarchism and Economics
Yea I have a hard time watching these same old arguments over and over again. It's funny how the video shows pictures of what I assume is communist china and calls that capitalism. I only got to the 57 second mark. It's just boring listening to something you have heard a million times. -
25 Invisible Benefits of Gaming While Male

I guess what I am saying in my experience people acting like real jerks in games is pretty common. It's not just arguments it's stuff like "go kill yourself" or "your mother should have swallowed you" and on and on. It's not to say this cant or wont happen in public but I get the sense that these are not only comment meant to be hurtful ( as opposed to a playful "you suck") but also make the gamer feel like an internet tough guy. Now I dont know for sure this is caused by anonymity but it's just a theory I have. The type of games I play are team based games 5 strangers play 5 strangers. When someone is toxic and insulting his team or the other team he gets reported, muted or both. I feel like if someone was right in front of you there would be a way less likely chance of players being toxic. Thinking about it now I guess part of it is the anonymity and the fact that if you upset everyone in the game there will be another 9 people who have never seen you before right around the corner. Either way you cant have that in a public place. Again it's not a proof or anything I just cant imagine these things being said in a public space. At the same time I've never run an internet cafe so maybe Im just inexperienced in that way. Also I see very little white knighting in games. Although it is somewhat rare to be in game with a female that has identified herself as a female when it does happen I dont see much flocking to help. At the same time I realize my experience in this area is limited since it doesn't happen very often. -

The anonymity the internet provides gives people the chance to let loose without consequences. You can be an internet tough guy and no one can do anything about it. -

I think that's really based on maturity. I am pretty quick to mute people unless someone says something hilariously stupid then I have to point it out. A lot of young kids are on these games which is where I think the majority of the toxic speech comes from not "men". But this group of people more than any knows how many man-child people are out there. It's just my opinion really that a lot of these people are kids. -
I agree with shirgall here. You can receive gifts eat food and enjoy yourself without worshiping Jesus. Besides I dont know about your family but there isn't too much talk about Jesus and more talk about this cool new ipad I just got.

My girlfriend is pregnant. Should I marry her?
yagami replied to Daniel Unplugged's topic in General Messages
I think now that you are having a child you have to think about what is best for the child. It's no longer just about what is good for you anymore. Even if she turns out not to be the one for you you are responsible for giving the child the best possible environment. If she thinks marriage is something that the government gives you then I dont know how much of an anarchist she is. If she does realize that marriage is just a promise and still insist on a government sanctioned marriage without any good reason then you have reason to question her motives. If she does not feel secure in the relationship and wants to get married I dont think that's a good sign for future happiness. I feel like she is looking for artificial happiness in the piece of paper. Now that she is pregnant it's no longer an option whether or not you go to therapy for your childhood issues. If you haven't worked out as much as you can then you need to start as soon as you read this. But just keep in mind where your focus needs to be and where her focus needs to be as well. If her motive for getting married isn't centered around the well being of the child then you need to have a talk with her and work that out. -
This is horrible. What kills me is when the child starts to beg to talk to the mom and apologizes and says she loves her mom. The horrible mother started laughing at her. Minimizing her feeling afterwards about how she is upset because of a stamp. This shit pisses me off.

This is dumb. I mean there are some pretty racist things people say on the in games too but does anyone really think these people are racist. People say the racist and sexist things just to piss people off. These people get a kick out of trolling others and that's all it is. -
I think it is the only moral way to stop unwanted behavior. There may be other ways that are thought up in the future so we'll have to wait for that. Keep in mind the ostracism of the future will be nothing like the ostracism of the past. Because there will be no public property you will essentially be banished.

Jeff Tucker and Robert P. Murphy Discuss Their New Bitcoin Books
yagami replied to yagami's topic in Science & Technology
You misunderstand me so let me use an analogy. If im an expert in nuclear physics and you know something but not a lot about nuclear physics and you say im anything but an expert in nuclear physics I would question your ability to make such a claim accurately. While you dont need to be an expert in nuclear physics to make any kind of judgment you do need to be an expert to claim someone else is not an expert (most cases). There are obviously cases where if someone is mentally retarded I dont think we have to speculate too much on that persons expertise in too many areas. I believe he is an expert based on everything I have seen he has produced. I cant know what he knows and no one can. We can only look at what they produce and speculate on what they know from that. Credentials are a part of evaluating someone's expertise in anything though I would say. His credentials include but are not limited to his degrees books and any other work he has produced. I said I doubt you have comparable knowledge about the subject. Im not saying you know very little just comparatively little. Doesn't mean it's not possible just means I doubt it. The reason I doubt this should be pretty obvious. How many people in the world actually are experts on the subject. I would say very few so it wouldn't be too far fetched a guess to say you probably dont know nearly as much comparatively. But if you are an expert then hey I guess you really can say he isn't an expert. Hope that made sense if not I'll try to explain one last time. -

I think you misunderstand my point. Im not saying Murphy is objectively an expert or not an expert but you seem to possess enough knowledge in economics to be able to distinguish between the two. You stated " he is anything but an expert" why do you believe that? You know in order to be able to tell just how much someone knows about a subject you have to at least know as much as them. You can only evaluate an individuals skills in any area based on what you know. Of course having a PHd doesn't make you an expert that's pretty narrow minded. But to me his body of work has lead me to believe he is an expert. I think you should be a little more humble in your judgment of other peoples abilities in areas I doubt you know very much about comparatively. -
This is very exciting. I cant wait to see how this turns out. Glad I happen to come by this post.

I dont understand. He has a PHd in economics teaches many schools of economics in college and has written several books on Austrian economics. Are you in a position to judge someone as not being an expert in economics? I for one am not an expert so I cant say for sure his credentials appear to speak for themselves. In my opinion he is an expert. -
I dont think exposing your children to violence is necessarily a bad thing. It really depends on how the violence is used. If the child understand that two people agree punch each other in the face until one is knocked out then you have established the violence is voluntary. If you expose children to unwanted violence that I think is wrong. Now a child raised peacefully might not like violent sports because of the nature of peacefully raised kids. But I dont think it's a bad idea on it's face.

You seriously need to grow up kid. Maybe we can have a conversation when you learn how to speak like an adult.

I think the fact you used the word punish says something about how you think about these kind of issues and may be worth exploring one day. In a free society he would be dealt with the same way you deal with all generally unwanted behaviors. He would just be ostracized. If you advocate murder. Ostracized!. If you do something people dont like. Ostracized! It really is that simple. The degree to which people ostracize will be determined by the community. We cant determine exactly what level of ostracism will occur but it will be appropriate to the offending behavior.

Comatose people and severely alzhimer humans dont have rights
yagami replied to y2k1's topic in General Messages
I may have my dates wrong and in fact I probably do and I'd be glad to give you references to the other things you asked about but that's really getting off topic as I stated in my post. Im more interested in the discussion on the question of do people in comas have rights. You responded to everything but that part of what I said lol. -

yagami replied to y2k1's topic in General Messages
Alzheimer's is caused by a lack of cholesterol in your diet. The disease didn't even exist before doctors started telling people to go on a cholesterol free diet. Try trying to find a reference to Alzheimer before 70 years ago. This has already been cured in animals but it's illegal to say the cure word in regards to humans do to the FDA. That's just a little factoid I know that's not your point. Do I have rights when im asleep? If your answer is yes then you need to explain why. -
I remember when I figured it out. I was told to go to my room and I did. I had to go to the restroom so I opened my door and I saw my parents carrying presents in the hallway. I didn't understand why they would be carrying presents at first because of course presents just showed up on Christmas every year. Once I sat down and thought about it I felt pretty betrayed. Couldn't believe they lied to me. The tooth fairy is just as bad. I figured that one out on my own. I took out a tooth and didn't say anything and I didn't get a quarter under my pillow. I mean how do parents think this is gonna end. Not with everyone laughing that's for sure.

I wasn't sure where to post this because it kind of has a mix of a few topics so im posting it here. So without getting into too much detail about my companies internal workings I have been sitting in on lectures with students for the past month of so. Im monitoring the session to make sure everything goes smoothly from a technical perspective. The classes I have been listening to have all be HR courses and let me tell you if you ever had any question of how much the government is involved in business just sit in on one of these classes. There are a crazy amount of rules that have to be followed I cant imagine working in HR. But that isn't what im posting about. A lot of these classes have been doing a lot of talking about the minimum wage and it's just really sad how the students just eat this crap up about a "living wage". I want so bad to turn on my mic and say you are all freaking retarded and you call yourselves educated! The professors just say provocative things then sits back and lets everyone discuss how horrible it is people live under bad conditions. Tonight im sitting in this class and they talk about how little teachers get paid compared to other professions. How important they are and how we should value them more. Apparently they need more money as a greater incentive to teach better. It's not just that there is all kinds of stuff about how we need certain laws to protect people from business. They talk about the government like a caring mother looking after her children. These courses are by no means some low grade school with bad professors. I work for a pretty large higher educational company which is what makes it sad. Im just glad after this week I wont have sit in on these sessions anymore for at least a month during winter break. Until then I'll have to restrain myself from turning on my mic.

Well I dont really want to get into a debate about the characteristics of a something that isn't real. Even if God wasn't trust worthy but existed I would still worship him in pursuit of heaven. The degree of his trustworthiness is up in the air I think but I wouldn't want to risk eternal damnation as it is eternal after all.
-
The answer to your question is assumed in the prospect of God appearing. If a particular God appeared then it would be that God along with all the aspects of that God. So if the christian God appeared we would have to assume that he be trustworthy since the christian God is trustworthy. If he were not then he would not be the "particular God" in question.

I didn't look into this until I saw this post but from what little I saw on the internet it does look like an accident. I seriously doubt the officer was trying to kill the guy. But I will say that if it is true that police officers aren't allowed to use choke holds and that's what he did and he was not indited then that isn't right in my opinion. I want to believe this is just like Ferguson in the sense that people are jumping to conclusions. But this was recorded. At the same time you gotta be pretty stupid to resist arrest as he clearly was doing. The cops can be very dangerous and you dont know what kind of cop you are dealing with. Morally the Eric Garner isn't at fault because the government is force and shouldn't be bothering him in the first place. But practically he is a fool for resisting the mafia in that way. If we look at his through the lens of a statist the officer broke regulations (possibly I dont know the law exactly) by putting him in a choke hold and not a sleeper hold and Eric Garner broke the law by resisting arrest (assuming he actually broke the law in some way). Until we know those two factors I dont think it's possible to make judgments. Either way I just hope cops get cameras on them so they are more hesitant to use force to solve problems. But I do understand it's a dangerous job. I personally would not be too excited about Steph reviewing this one. I feel like this is the second in what is to be a long string of police violence videos soon to come. People are really focused on the police right now and im sure there is going to be many more incidents like this popping up everywhere. Besides this doesn't seem to have anything to do with race. I mean not even close.
