  1. Josephus is an excellent text written by a Roman around the time of Christ... but he was not a Christian, also Julius Caesar wrote a couple of books that review his own military campaigns--an early example of a political self promoting book.
  2. Hello, I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.... also known as Mormons. I love this site and the content produced by Stefan and the FDR team. However I have noticed that on a couple of occasions some inaccurate information about Mormons was posted and spoken in the videos/podcasts. I hope that this post can help clarify some of the mis-information out there about us Mormons. I hope we can respectful and have an intelligent discussion. Its strange, mos of the criticisms that Stefan makes about religion I also agree with, they also don't fit with the truth about my faith. I am not trying to 'convert' anyone, just clarify information. SO.... if you have any questions please feel free to ask me. I am an active member of the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints, I served a full time mission for 2 years and joined the Church when I 16. . I DO NOT speak officially for the church, just myself. I welcome your comments and questions. Cheers, Bushrat
  3. Looking at the big picture I think this is really Islams struggle with modernity. Christianity went their bloody transformation during the 30 years war and other conflicts of the era. It was not a smooth transition, and neither will Islams transformation if it ever happens. I am not convinced that the majority of Islamic peoples are ready for an evolution into modernity, some of the key factors that the west had are missing from their systems currently. Only time will tell if they will make a transformation or we will end up in a continual culture clash.
  4. Its fine to have low saving when you are so young.... but the debt is per person is more important than the savings amount. I wonder how much they owe.
  5. Wow, bad timing. I just moved back to Kelowna from living overseas for 7 years. Best of luck in your new start.
  6. I think if you really want to protest the government and don't want to support one of the corrupt parties you go and spoil your ballot. Imagine if the majority of ballots were spoiled because of this? What conclusions wold people draw? I think its the best way to communicate your disgust during an election.
  7. Hello all, I have searched the forum and have not found any comments on Generation X. I was born in 1967, I noticed Stefan was born in 1966 and was wondering if anyone had any comments of analysis of Generation X? Cheers, Bushrat
  8. Hey, I just joined the forum and I live in Kelowna. Let me know if you ever want to meet up. Cheers, Bushrat
  9. Hello all, My name is Brian (aka Bushrat) and I hail from Kelowna BC Canada. I discovered FDR a couple of weeks ago and was immediately interested and have watched as many videos as I could. I think in the K/R division I come down as a capital K. I have worked 25 years in the mining exploration industry and have lived the last seven years in south America prospecting for gold. I also have a history degree, that is totally irrelevant for my profession. Since my industry has been in decline for the last few years I have struggled to find a good paying job. I find Canada a vast wasteland for K types.... filled mostly with pinko commies who want to turn Canada into a full on socialist state where everyone gets their guaranteed income from the government overlord who controls the state run economy which generates jobs from a vast array of service industries. I can't believe people actually want deficit budgets....whats wrong with these people??! My work overseas has given me a unique perspective on the world... I have worked in West Africa, Haiti, the Dominican Republic, Guyana, the USA and all over Western and Northern Canada. I am tired of western apologists who feel bad for the supremacy of the western culture and economic system. There are reasons beyond geographic (Jared Diamond was wrong) why the western societies and economic systems were the dominant and most successful systems in the world. Having a history degree also gives me a unique perspective on the world. Humans don't seem to learn from the mistakes of the past in my opinion. I was also born in 1967 which makes me a member of Generation X.... the most down trodden of all generations. I noticed that Stefan was born in 1966 and shares the same Gen X category. I wonder what data he might be able to did up and share about Generation X? Anyway, I very happy to be part of this community and hope to meet some other like minded people here. Please pardon my rants as I don't have too many like minded people to talk to about this stuff in the pinko commie Great White North. Cheers, Bushrat
