  1. I'd like to explore a feeling/reaction that I find surprising. Recently, when I see a film with a super cute lead actress, I feel a touch of disgust/anger toward her, both as a character, and toward (what I imagine is) that actress in real life. For example, I just watched Side Effects with the the lead actress Roony Mara. During nearly every scene that featured Roony, I felt waves of irritation. The more pouty and hot she looked, the angrier I got. Why? Does anybody else have this? ... When I try to unpack it, I imagine this: My life vs A phenomenally beautiful woman's life: My childhood: Fighting for attention that never came. My feelings/thoughts didn't matter. Her childhood; A pretty and precious little girl. Her comfort and feelings mattered. My middle school: Picked on. Unloved. Needing to retreat into my hobbies. Her middle school: The object of tons of attention from everybody. Popular. My high school: Totally unwanted by the opposite sex. Awkward, ugly, acne, bad skin. The nadir of my worth. Her high school: Loved, and desired by everybody of the opposite sex. Bright future in modelling or acting. etc... Is it wrong for me to feel disgust? (sarcasm alert) Probably yes because I'm a white male and therefore incapable of suffering...especially incapable of suffering relative to a precious pretty female. As a side note: I'm similarly angered by the sound of music that seems to be made by beautiful people, for beautiful people. For example, every time I hear Lorde's voice, I want to puke. She seems so obviously trying to "sound cute". Do you know what i mean?
  2. The pursuit of excellence requires not lying to oneself or to others about the quality of the work, regardless of hurt feelings. Screaming, throwing chairs and insulting others...not required. This teacher could have demanded the same skill level, without ever insulting or throwing anything. That said, I very much enjoyed that movie.
  3. The main premise of much of Louis CK's humor is based on: -White men are bad and are responsible for women's problems. -White men are bed and are responsible for black people's problems.
  4. Translation in terms Sam can appreciate: - "This whole business about religion, I find profoundly uninteresting, ..." - "To compare a powerful religion per se with the problem of science is just to make a hash of everything that is important to talk about here. - "And the idea that we can do without a powerful god at this point is just preposterous, so if you are an atheist, you are either 50 or 100 years before your time or you are an imbecil." - "We need a god, we need a church, we need people to interpret the bible, we can't eliminate all this stuff, and eliminating religion will get us other problems, ...."
  5. Think of morality as a subset of logic.
  6. "preposterous" isn't an argument. Translation: - "This whole business about religion, I find profoundly uninteresting, ..." - "To compare a powerful religion per se with the problem of logic is just to make a hash of everything that is important to talk about here. - "And the idea that we can do without a powerful religion at this point is just preposterous, so if you are an atheist , you are either 50 or 100 years before your time or you are an imbecil. We need a god, we need a church, we need people to teach morality, we can't delete all this stuff, and becoming atheists will get us other problems, ...."

  8. Yes, double time was approx the right time vs info rate (for me). The content was solid - just commenting on speed. I think the best info-based youtube channels have super quick delivery: See MinutePhysics: See Vsauce: See PBS Ideas: They're infectious and are so crammed with momentum you wanna move on to the next video. If we're trying to grab an audience who are used to this kind of delivery, putting 3-5 seconds between sentences is going to turn them off. I'm sorry if that comes off as offensive or rude. Taking notes from others is hard (I know, I'm a musician!). I'm trying to offer some positive notes to improve the next videos, for the sake of freedom!
  9. I want to vomit. That is just..... Can you imagine this coming from the mouth of man?
  10. My view: -The goal of life is to grow old happily. -Worrying about growing old gets in the way of that goal.
  11. My 2 3 4 cents: 1) Indeed.com 2) Improve your brevity 3) Work for little to no pay to get your leg in the door 4) Help a business in any way you can. You'll become valuable.
  12. I was never hugged by my parents. Not until I was in my late teens. Might explain a lot.
  13. @matthew: Totally. Humor is huge. If you can show libertarians having FUN, it's much less intimidating to check out. About those comics: Not sure I can do any better, but I didn't find those comics funny or clever. Might me my limitations tho. But yes, that title "we hate roads and poor people" is great.
  14. "Have a conversation about race" is code for: HEY White people, confess to causing the vast majority problems within the black community. Nobody for a second thinks it means "Hispanics need to reconsider their racism against Japanese people".
  15. The X factor is time. People have no conception of the brain bending vastness of time. Any small % mutation when multiplied by millions upon millions upon millions upon millions upon million.......of years becomes amplified hugely.
  16. Everyday Anarchy is on Youtube. Any reason PA isn't up there? I know it's very very long, but it can be broken into bits and put in a playlist
  17. Do we need 911 to prove that the government has harmed innocent people?
  18. Why aren't they targeting atheists? Isn't it worse to say "god doesn't exist?" compared to drawing it/her/him/them?
  19. Practical Anarchy: For people who have heard of Anarchy, but can't imagine how it could work. UPB: For people the highly logical/philosophical person. (rare that I meet somebody who can digest this book) Everyday Anarchy: For the person who need a soft introduction.
  20. Good question. For me: Hatred of the institutions of the world created a hard scab...to protect me. Had I given in and accepted everything, I'd have died inside.
  21. Interesting that none of that discussion refers to actually BEING a person worthy of love and resources.
  22. You own yourself, and your property. This is justice. Any other arrangement is unjust, by definition.
  23. DRO/Insurance agreements are bound to have clauses indicating next-of-kin, or other guardians.
