  1. That's a good question. Well I imagine a number of responses, which I've had over the years. 'His mother was only frustrated with his dreaming for his own future's sake', 'Come on now, look how he destroyed his sisters glass figurine' or 'Since when did you get soppy about your needs being met'. This with a mixture of smirking and looks of astonishment.Of course, that's all in my head as a possibility, it doesn't mean that she would have reacted that way. But of course I didn't give her the opportunity to say otherwise.
  2. Kevin thanks for sharing your innermost thoughts on this. It's not without some considerable bravery to do so, regardless of it being just a forum. Showing vulnerability with people you care for can be quite scary, even if that's just meeting and engaging with folk. Our cold manly tombs can seem like a solace by comparison. Certainly that tomb protected us in the past, but I have a strong desire to escape it now. Your openness to my question kind of showed me that it's essential for one to express their needs and feelings with confidence and grace. If others scoff at us, then we just move along having kicked them to the curb. Hi Meeri, it was interesting and refreshing to hear this from a female perspective. I don't doubt that little girls feelings and desires are often ignored and sidelined in the same way. Sorry to hear that happened to you.
  3. Since you're new to the forum, I suggest you read it again and a number of other threads on the same topic over the years, if you care to search the forum. Nothing remotely like being shot from the hip. This topic is like determinism and nihilism. Mostly emotionally led, whilst ignoring key philosophical principles. I've seen the same responses to this question on this thread and your rebuttals are nothing new, albeit worded differently.I'm open to alternative rebuttals to well thought out arguments already posed. So far I'm seeing a lot of adjectives.
  4. What's that got to do with my earlier post?
  5. Anyone know how to delete a post? I seemed to have double posted.
  6. Hey Kevin, perhaps you could extrapolate on that feeling. I found the video deeply profound and seemingly mirrored some of my own recent thoughts on this topic. That said I did feel a sense of helplessness when it was suggested that women need to make those positive changes. That just seems insurmountable to me. At least at the moment. Edited extra below Actually it was interesting for me to note that I had watched a great play by Tennessee Williams last week called, The Glass Menagerie. The scene below kind of encapsulates the helplessness I described earlier rather well. What's also interesting is that I saw this play with a woman and I very deliberately avoided discussing this scene with her, even when I found it to be the most profound. An interesting point I have no doubt. Sorry re-edited to get the embedding right.
  7. I think it's very cool that you went to the root cause for your anxiety about this, in highlighting your mothers behaviour. What ever is true, embelished or not about Dayna from this blog, is I would conclude not about Dayna for you. That said, I am cautious either way on this topic, since we only have anecdotal evidence. I know Dayna is considered a virtuous person (particularly at FDR) and this blog has unfortunately spoilt that view for many.
  8. An interesting perspective on gossip.
  9. Ha, good quote DarkSky... To the OP voicing your opinion ideally should be done in a environment whereby you can defend them with reason. And conversely you are amongst critics that are more likely to use reason as well (or at least the audience). How you get to that understanding comes from a deeper understanding and confidence in yourself. Hence the need for 'self knowledge'.
  10. Yes, it is gossip and hearsay, but I found Dayna's response to the criticism as less than satisfactory (from her various facebook/blog ramblings). Of course this is for each person to work out for themselves. I certainly still consider Dayna as a great exponent of unschooling. If she has personal issues then I hope she gets help for that. Not like she's not amongst great minds that can't help her in that direction, if need be.
  11. I say. lets have a video of you wackjob, high on the psychedelics.. Then we can all decide whether Stef might benefit from your illustrious insight.
  12. I can tell you from experience. Learning philosophy rationally and sober was more thought provoking than any psychedelic experience I ever had. And I had a few back yonder too. Not too mention, have you ever been around someone on acid. It's seriously like being around a person with altziemers.
  13. I think I might think twice before taking advice from someone called Wackjob..
  14. The reason this critique is not taken seriously, is mainly because of this: "So after reading the book, I still have no idea what a Universally Preferable Behavior (UPB) is." Which means anything meaningful he may have to say will be lost on a faulty understanding from the start.
  15. I guess as far as the NAP is concerned, you can argue that. However, UPB trumps the NAP each time.
  16. This topic has been discussed at length. Always worth searching the forum for certain topics, in case they have been covered. http://board.freedomainradio.com/topic/36893-non-aggression-principle-and-animals/
  17. Well, I refer you to you first post. Whilst probably an interesting read, no one is likely to read it during the course of this thread. So it might be useful to take it to a different thread, so you can flesh out this position in more detail. You'll probably disagree no doubt, but this is a bit of a trojan horse (re the thread), when you understand the position clearly, without first putting it forward in it's entirety.
  18. I think you should lay out the full argument in a different thread STer and not in parts. So that people can adequately respond to it.
  19. "… I cannot know for certain that my companions’ experiences with the same teacher were are brief as mine, and theirs may have been recurrent where mine was not. That’s why I said only “I don’t think he did any of us lasting damage”. We discussed it among ourselves on many occasions, especially after his suicide, and there was indeed general agreement that his gassing himself was far more upsetting than his sexual depredations had been. If I am wrong about any particular individual; if any of my companions really was traumatised by the abuse long after it happened; if, perhaps it happened many times and amounted to more than the single disagreeable but brief fondling that I endured, I apologise." Richard Dawkins This was Richards further thoughts on the topic and whilst it stlll shows his personal denial, he clearly explains that he has no idea how it effected others. Whilst statism is rarely challenged amongst skeptics, leftism often is. There is clearly a war that is going on in this regard, between leftists and those that consider themselves apolitical, albeit being statist (for the most part). Not sure you can call Dawkins a relativist. When it comes to religion, he is a fairly outspoken absolutist in this regard. Which is why certain degenerate quarters of the left (Owen Jones) are branding him an Islamaphobe.
  20. I think we are beginning to see the emergence of how news outlets will eventually look within the current alternative media on the internet, of which stefan is very much a part. Of course many of them are driven by ideology, whether religious or poltical. For the most part they have to show themselves to have integrity and attempting to honour the truth of things. There has been a huge upswing in the different types of alternative media available and people are beginning to trust it a lot more. They can also decern BS within certain outlets, which is all great signs of things to come. I'm very curious to see where the MSM will be in 10 years time. We live in a fascinating and exciting era of history I think.
  21. "Would those who are in power, those who are more influential over the local community, be less susceptible to immoral behavior, when their community is self-reliant?" This question seems to infer that without statism there would still be some kind of power structure that might fall prey to violence. People will only be influential in terms of their reputation. They would have probably displayed many years of observing peaceful and voluntary ways of negotiating successfully within their sphere of knowledge. Since society by then would have decided to do away with the violent monopoly that was the state, they are likely to be very wary of those that are susceptible to it.People will only care about localisation if it can be found to be the most efficient means of production. If not they will import it, since politics will rarely be a considerationin in this matter, only price.
  22. I think you make a good point here. Personally I believe this is just the left attempting to sniper him, as they always do to people that attempt to undermine their ideology, which he has done on several occasions.
  23. As Wesley jokingly suggests, cleavage and boobs are a significant lure for the average YT subscriber. There does seem to be some evidence that YouTube is proliferated with mostly young male viewers and she isn't the only vacuous (pretend or otherwise) lady to make a buck or two out of her big knockers. The only conclusion I can come too regarding this lady, is that her own head may have come into an untimely colision with one of those behemoths.
  24. Yes, I believe the Bank of England was nationalised after WW2. Mind you, what wasn't nationalised back then, which is a large contributing factor to our ailing economy as well. Anyway, a very useful analysis Stefan and another strong reason for me to consider leaving this country for more greener pastures perhaps. I've lost a considerable amount of my investment capital of late and currently see very few opportunities for ever increasing it again.
  25. I used to work in the building industry back in the 90's and the UK govt was considering making tetnas jabs mandtory for those employed by the profession every 10 years. I think they may have done so in the meantime. I recall an old employer telling me of one guy that caught it, but that was in the 1950's I believe and it was his only case ever. There is some evidence that suggests you are more likely to catch this rarity from certain professions. For instance I used to build the footings (foundations) for buildings, this would often include the laying of sewage piping too. Not that this was much of an issue with new builds, but with building extensions or the refurb and strengthening of existing foundations you would often come into contact with less than desirable sewage spills from cracked piping. Since you are often working with large power tools like angle grinders in small spaces the risk of injury was a lot higher. Although other than the one case I mentioned above, compared with all the other risks associated with the profession, it was the least of our worries frankly.
