Does your money belong to you?
Alan C. replied to Costa's topic in Libertarianism, Anarchism and Economics
The paper currency that is in circulation isn't real money; that's why it's called fiat currency. Real money arises on the market. Paper tickets issued by the State aren't money. -
Simultaneous trials rather than sequential trials. Trees which might've been similar to redwoods, but slightly different and not as robust or adaptive, did not survive, leaving behind the redwoods that you see today.

The State is legislating low-wage jobs out of existence
Alan C. replied to Alan C.'s topic in Current Events
This is at a McDonald's in San Francisco, which now has a $12.25 minimum wage. -
Ignorance and superstition. Latin America is overwhelmingly Catholic.

Logic is a form of female oppression
Alan C. replied to fractional slacker's topic in Men's Issues, Feminism and Gender
Logic doesn't mesh well with wishful thinking, whim, and caprice. The funny irony is that logic is responsible for millions of women being alive today through technological innovations in engineering and medicine who might otherwise have died. -
The objective of socialism/communism is to reduce everyone to the lowest common denominator. The appeal to fairness, egalitarianism, social justice, etc., gives them plausible deniability. Envy - an emotion which occurs when a person lacks another's superior quality, achievement, or possession and either desires it or wishes that the other lacked it. On Appeasing Envy by Henry Hazlitt The Anti-Capitalistic Mentality by Ludwig von Mises

"Who will take out the trash?" It's an allegorical question which socialists/communists can't answer. Societies without private property invariably devolve into grinding poverty because of perverse inventives and lack of profitability.

The reason why children cannot give consent to sex (or to contracts) is because they don't posses a sufficiently developed mental faculty to evaluate and appreciate consequences. This would apply also to a grown adult whose mental faculty is impaired in some way (eg. retardation, injury, birth defect) precluding them from exercising sound judgment.

How long does it take to buy basic goods in Venezuela? Follow link for video. What we're observing is societal regression. What was once a simple errand has become a colossal time-waster. Almost an entire day was spent just to go grocery shopping. Think of it this way: suppose you wanted to build a house and instead of having access to a backhoe you had to use a trowel.

Why is price of internet increasing?
Alan C. replied to DSEngere's topic in Libertarianism, Anarchism and Economics
There is only one provider in most municipalities. Even if somebody had the capital to build new infrastructure, getting through regulatory barriers would be impossible. -
More U.S. Women Are Going Childless Unfortunately, people who should be procreating aren't, and people who shouldn't be are.

Venezuelan hotels asking tourists to bring their own toilet paper and soap Haha.

Do I owe you my services if you're drowning?
Alan C. replied to DCLugi's topic in Libertarianism, Anarchism and Economics
Like I said, it depends upon circumstances. Once cannot simply assume that others have an obligation. Family of seven drown in Chinese reservoir after daughter falls in and they form a human chain in doomed attempt to rescue her because none of them can swim -
CA Gov Jerry Brown to Impose Mandatory Water Restrictions
Alan C. replied to Alan C.'s topic in Current Events
Residents could face fines for taking long showers -
Altruism is a conceit. Even if a person were to make a concerted effort to act solely for altruistic ends, he does so ultimately to please himself.

Brown orders California's first mandatory water restrictions: 'It's a different world' It's funny how everything the government manages ends up resulting in shortages.

I read technology websites daily because I work in IT, and because I'm interested in it as a hobby. I'm simply amazed at the advances. However, the articles which I find the most incredible are the ones about 3D printed prosthetics, bionics, and replacement organs, skin, and other body parts.
