  1. They'll say that this is the fault of people who want to cut government spending. If a private company had caused this, there would be immense public outrage, protests, and boycotts. The environmental movement has nothing to do with protecting the environment; that's just a facade.
  2. Revealed - the shocking amount of sugar 'hiding' in your soft drink: Photographer boils down household favourites then makes them into lollipops
  3. All wealth-transfer programs are financed by "paying into them." It's taking money from some people and giving it to others. In the case of SS and Medicare, all of the taxes that people pay to finance those programs is spent immediately on current beneficiaries.
  4. According to this 2007 report from CATO, corporate subsidies are around $100B. However, given the age of that report, the figure is likely higher. The government spent $74B just on food stamps in 2014. $851B on Social Security, $836B on Medicare, Medicaid, CHIP, ACA subsidies. Most of the federal budget consists of giving free stuff to people.

  7. The Obama recovery: Since December 2014, the US has lost 1.4 million manufacturing workers. These have been replaced almost one to one, with new waiters and bartenders.
  8. 200+ years of socialism and not a single socialist society has created prosperity and abundance for the masses. Instead, it has left a pile of bodies and grinding poverty for the survivors in its wake.
  9. It's a great show, and very entertaining, but I don't think that it's getting people to think about libertarian ideas.
  10. The mainstream definition of inflation is an increase in prices. Austrian economists correctly define inflation as an increase in the money supply, which results in a decrease in its purchasing power. It's possible for prices to decline while the purchasing power of the currency declines simultaneously. This can be observed in computers and electronics. When prices decline during inflation, the currency debasement is concealed, and advances and refinements in production do not redound to the consumer in their entirety. It means that our standard of living isn't as high as it would otherwise be.
  11. Special Report: Multitude of local authorities soak Illinois homeowners in taxes Tha parasite class in its full glory.
  12. Liberals (left-liberals/progressives in the U.S.) tend to be averse to competition and personal responsibility (which is among the reasons why they denounce free-enterprise and private charity), but I'm not sure if that's the same thing as being risk averse. The reason why I think this is because high time preference, short time horizons, and lack of prudence, foresight, and impulse control are inconsistent with risk aversion. Somebody who is risk averse makes contingency plans in case of emergencies. Liberals don't do that.
  13. Liberals tend to be more reckless.

  15. First Obamacare Co-Op To Fail Could Cost Taxpayers Over $140 Million More than two-thirds of Obamacare enrollees unsatisfied with coverage: survey
  16. I'm convinced that housing is currently in a bubble due to the availability of cheap credit. More demand = artificially inflated prices.
  17. Can genes make us liberal or conservative?
  18. I read a bunch of news everyday, and I see gut-wrenching stories like this one on a regular basis, but public outrage is nowhere to be seen. People, and especially those in the news media, seem more concerned about animal abuse.
  19. Looting Turns Deadly In Venezuela Amid Severe Food Shortages No one is starving...yet. The lines aren't long enough. Looting and violence on the rise in Venezuela supermarkets
  20. Family to Pay Price for Trying to Sue Ammo Dealers If their daughter had been killed in a car accident, would they have sued the car dealership and manufacturer? It's a tragedy that their daughter was murdered, but seeking retribution against people who were not responsible isn't justice. The Brady Center apparently had a hand in this (see original post).
  21. White House Pushes For Tech Diversity in Its First Demo Day No, the goal is to foment discord. The feckless, buffoon president, who has never had a real job or generated any wealth in the private sector, thinks that the greatest problem facing entrepreneurship is insufficient diversity.
  22. Good move. That book converted me from Republican to Libertarian almost overnight.
  23. I don't understand the entertainment value of killing animals, but it's disturbing that there seems to be greater outrage when somebody kills a lion (or giraffe), or abuses a dog, than there is when people's lives are ruined by the State. People lose their homes, businesses, life savings, and sometimes their lives.
  24. I used to dress in jeans, flannels, and work boots because of his character in that movie. There may have been an undisclosed or undiagnosed health problem. It's unusual for somebody to just keel over and die that young.
