Cops fire 84 rounds at robbery suspect; 83 rounds hit something other than robbery suspect What possible excuse is there for such wanton recklessness?

There were far more stay-at-home moms in the 70s than there are today. A man could easily support a family on a modest salary.

Women initially reject advances from men until they discover that they have money/fame, then change their minds. Great social experiment. Must-see. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=98MkjUwVexQ

The Philosophy of Star Trek Economics
Alan C. replied to AncapFTW's topic in Libertarianism, Anarchism and Economics
I think that they took some major creative license with the replicators in order to fill gaps. Even if food, clothing, and engery were in super abundance as to be virtually free to everyone, there is still an incentive problem. Like he asked in the video, why are people expending time and effort to build a starship when they could be doing other things? A question that he didn't ask was how do they know if the materials and labor that went into building a starship could have been put to better use elsewhere? That isn't a question that a central planner can answer. -
The Philosophy of Star Trek Economics
Alan C. replied to AncapFTW's topic in Libertarianism, Anarchism and Economics
I thought that his analysis was quite good. He noted that the writers never offer an explanation as to how the society of the future functions without money. In other words, they never explain how the economic calculation problem is solved. They simply take for granted that it is. In more than one clip, characters say that the driving force is no longer the acquisition of wealth, but the desire to better oneself. The problem is that the two are inextricably linked. It's not possible to better yourself if half of your day is spent on procurement and preparation of food. Progress and improved living standards grew at an excruciatingly slow pace in the past because people had to spend most of their waking hours on basic sustenance. Centuries passed with little improvement. The capitalistic order of production made it possible to manufacture labor-saving devices on a mass scale, lifting billions out of grinding poverty. -

Arbitration is a lucrative business. It keeps people out of the court system and is less expensive. -

All services should be provided by the market in the same way as it currently provides cars, food, personal care products, household items, cookware, furniture, clothing, computers, and electronics. There is no need to have governments provision anything. Public voting is a bad idea. The masses tend to be stupid, and I'm not interested in my neighbors' ill-informed, unqualified opinions. Military States can only last so long as there are supplies to raid because a State cannot trade with itself (as Mises pointed out a century ago) and once the price mechanism breaks down, so does the economy.

Should I take advantage of the welfare system
Alan C. replied to Jakethehuman's topic in General Messages
Although it frustrates me that so many people exploit the welfare system, I recognize that it's here to stay. However, the more people who use it, the sooner it's going to implode, and that's a good thing. -
The short answer (not intending to be flippant) is that people whose retort consists of "you want the poor to starve" are low-grade morons. People are not starving because of Apple. To the extent that people are starving, they are doing so despite Apple. I'd argue that people are better fed in the aggregate because of companies like Apple because of the labor saving devices they produce. Corporations don't pay taxes because corporations don't exist. They're legal fictions. People pay taxes. Who pays corporate income taxes? The employees and customers. There is no logic behind corporate income taxes. Politicians don't need logic or reason to expropriate people.

Currency devalutation and inflation are the same thing. Hyper-inflation is a situation in which significant price inflation occurs rapidly (eg. double-digit loss of purchasing power per month) resulting in people dumping currency as quickly as possible (exchanging it for other currencies or commodities, and possibly switching to barter). Venezuela is currently experiencing this.
