Columnist proposes 'euthanasia vans' to deal with too many old people
Alan C. replied to Alan C.'s topic in Current Events
I don't know if she intended to mean that she supports compulsory euthanasia, or supports exerting pressure on people, or just wants people to have access to voluntary euthanasia. However, given her comparison of euthanasia vans to ice cream trucks, her remarks about using gunships on migrants, and the authoritarian title of her TV show, she seems to be talking about euthanasia as a convenient and expedient means of solving a problem she perceives. -

Why is that a problem? Why bother? It's obvious what makes private property superior. Compare a privately-owned apartment complex to a public-housing project. Compare the AAA to the DMV. Compare private schools to public schools. Compare FedEx and UPS to the Post Office. Where do you get better service?

Private owners have a vested financial interest in the future value of their property. This is why privately-owned homes tend to be well maintained while public-housing and subsidized and rent-controlled ghettos tend to be filthy, dilapidated, and covered in graffiti. Public lands tend to be strip-mined, clear-cut, and polluted. When a resource is owned in common, it removes the incentive to defer consumption and preserve because nobody as a vested financial interest in doing so.

A Video Insight into the Monstrous Depths of Corruption in Asia

YT removed the video. That was horrific, and the look of terror on the child's face when his dad was strangling him was quite unsettling. That man deserves to have his ass beat. Thank goodness that electronics are becoming more prolific so that these types of incidents can be exposed. -

The Politicians' War on Uber Once again, the interloper assclowns are on a crusade to sabotage progress and innovation. In The Ethics of Liberty, Murray Rothbard referred to the State as a, "...crippling and parasitic blight...upon the voluntary and productive social process."

Criminologists reveal five key traits of notorious murderers

I wouldn't command all individuals to submit to a scan. There are telltale signs which could suggest a potential problem even without a scan (eg. certain patterns of behavior such as compulsive lying). Firms might want to scan their employees as a condition of employment, in much the same way that they might screen for drug use or past criminal records. -

Found myself emotionally invested in a company CEO I've never met
Alan C. replied to kerou's topic in Self Knowledge
I occasionally feel a swell of emotion when I hear about somebody's death who had provided me with joy when I was growing up. I remember feeling emotional when Gary Gygax died. He created Dungeons and Dragons. I also felt like I had been kicked in the stomach when Leonard Nimoy died. Although everyone knew him as Spock, I also remembered him as the host of In Search Of which was one of my favorite shows as a kid. There are probably more, but only those come to mind (especially with LN's being so recent). -
Washington and Texas have no state income tax. Some people in Washington drive into Oregon to go shopping because there is no sales tax. Washington tends to have overcast weather and high precipitation. Seattle is a beautiful city, but it's a little pricey. Texas has a low cost of living and real estate is cheap. Some areas are very humid. New Hampshire has very cold winters if you can tolerate it.
