How to tell if you're over studying when you could be...
MrCapitalism replied to Naer's topic in Education
Education is an investment. And like all investments, some are good and some are really bad. You have to act as an entrpeneur and make a forecast of the future income potential vs. present costs. -

DREAM: My mecosystem hotel is closing.
MrCapitalism replied to MrCapitalism's topic in Self Knowledge
Just a quick update: The next night I had a much more enjoyable dream, with references to the releasing of bindings and connection, so things may be up on up-and-up.Flake and I had the conversation, and he was correct that it would have been WAY too long for the forum. I decided to stop the process before completion and did not find value in what little I was able to accomplish. -
I think the first part of the dream was pretty accurate, in that you were waiting in line for some sort of examination. Your dream was very lengthy or very condensed, and seems like an examination of the choices you have made in your past. The part about bribing the officers is very interesting, especially since you're an AnCap who's about to enter law school. What are your opinons on that choice (going to school)?

DREAM: My mecosystem hotel is closing.
MrCapitalism replied to MrCapitalism's topic in Self Knowledge
Thanks flake. Would you be willing to post your comments publicly, in this thread? I think there would be some additional value of having others see and maybe add to your understanding. -
Just took an afternoon nap and had this revelation of a dream, thought I would share. I haven't had vivid dreams in a long time, and this one was very vivid. As of the last couple years I've had some control over my dreams (especially nightmares), and I had no awareness in this dream. I could say this is the first 'nightmare' I've had in a very long time, but I get so much value from nightmares that I really can't call them 'nightmares' any more. I thought I had a decent relationship to my mecosystem, but the feedback I think i just recieved was drastically different. Does anybody have any ideas on how to salvage this relationship before I lose it, if I will can lose it? Any ideas on how to make it better?

Total sympathy for the position you're in dude, here's my observation as a 3rd party on the internet. You're going to try and have a deep heart to heart about how she treats people....meanwhile she's dumping dudes based on TV shows and whether they like bugs or not.You want her to realize that she treats men badly, yet she can get guys to wait in a queue for her affection....not even into a relationship, but to wait until she becomes single. That plan sounds crazy. What are your thoughts on why you want to do this?

Do you have any interest in dating her (assuming you are male/swing that way)?

Neither is the preference for life when stading in front of a bus going 60 miles an hour. Why have you been up for 24 hours man?

What is the definition of Universally Preferable Behavior?
MrCapitalism replied to JSRS01's topic in Philosophy
And of course "behavior" because it applies to human action. -
Agreed. I personally feel that the ideas of liberty tend to reduce these feelings of abandonment, confusion, and neglect instead of appeal to them. It comes as a sudden assault upon that mentality, and takes some work to plow through. The ideas (e.g. NAP, property rights, ciminality of government, free market) tend to show people their place in society, which helps reduce their feelings of being lost (now you know where you are, even if you don't like it), abandonment (this feeling isn't empathized with or enabled.. it's basically like "yeah, you were abandoned by society..that really sucke....time to deal with it"), and neglect ("you're not being neglected, you're being actively assaulted and decieved"). These feelings are very quickly confronted in this philosophy, and they pretty much never survive in any debilatating way.

Sure there are, there are tens of thousands of them... http://ericpetersautos.com/2013/06/18/another-car-we-cant-buy/ Buying cars at a dealership is a soul sucking process with arm-and-let maintenance and agressive salesmen. People look at this process as natural inevitable... NPR recently did a story about how the entire process of selling and making a car is written into law by the government. http://www.npr.org/blogs/money/2013/02/19/172402376/why-buying-a-car-never-changes

How can people feel oppressed by the government when they truely believe "we are the government?" It's like telling somebody that they are oppresssing themself. I'm not suprised that these feelings are projected onto random sources, which brings a lot of desperation, confusion, and ambivilance when considering the subject. If a person is being being repeatedly hit with a baseball bat, and refuses to acknowledge that fact, they're not going to be eager to talk about the 'invisible' sources of their bruises...they may blame a skin condition, or clumsiness, or sleep walking, or whatever.. It's like in the call in shows when people start by saying, "well I've always been X" and Stef has to correct them with "no you're not! you were X because of Y"
