  1. If we're trying to guess at the intentions and desires of the poducer of the work (who we have never met). Then my logic would be: Since, at the time of release, we can guess that they had no desire for their work to be copied, then we can also guess that they knew that copying and sharing would take place anyways.WIth these assumed knowledge and desires, they still made the choice to release their work into that kind of environment. Since everybody agrees that no theft of any type has actually taken place...oh well [] And if they really had no idea that their work would be copied and distributed by consumers....well that's just silly.[]
  2. I actually feel bad for the dude. In this situation I don't really care too much what he does or where he's getting his money, I hope he finds a way to better health...soon.
  3. Oh it's there, it's just not easy to find. []
  4. Uhhh.... a dude attempts to go to war under false pretenses... the crew teams up with a terrorist to stop him... and then the Captain makes a virtuous speech about using restraint, resisting the urge to seek revenge, and carefully reasoning out of a bad political situation. When this came up I was all... I thought it was a good plot, and I really liked the movie!

  6. <- Inside the United States When I was growing up in an abusive household, my stepfather would use "Child Protection Services" as a tool for physchological abuse. If I expressed my displeasure with my treatment, he would dare me to call "CPS" to have them take me into custody. It was a very frightening idea for me, as I had no idea what to expect, and there was no expectation that the conditoins under 'protection' would be in any ways better than where I was (middle class household). I think I inherently knew that I would by abused by the system in probably more viscious ways than I was inside of my own house. As a confirmation, I am friends with a person on facebook who grew up in foster care. This month is "foster care awareness" month, and he's been sharing stories from inside of care. He uses words such as 'no expectation of privacty' 'denial of important information (restriction of photographs, not finding out for 3 years that his grandmother died)'... it's been pretty horrific. Weirdly enought he's the biggest statist I know.
  7. Cult of the family.Family Guy is still hilarious though []
  8. That really sucks, I hope you have a speedy recovery.
  9. If you haven't seen this yet, I highly reccomend it.[view:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kB6uQcGo60I]
  10. Buy they games you want to play, and don't buy the games you don't want to play. It's a market, and it's responsive to consumers. Don't waste your time trying to influence these companies... that's politics. Your judgement is only needed for the results, not the process. Let them worry about how to give you what you want. I bought Call of Duty 4 (which was amazing IMO), and haven't bought another COD game since. The exception was MW3 (which was terrible) and I probably won't buy a game from that series ever again. At least until some reviewers I respect report that there have been some significant improvements. I look at it like Hollywood. There are big budget summer releases which look amazing and really don't have a decent plot. If you want a good story, you're gonna have to seek out the smaller budged movies which are aimed at that segment of consumers. That might not neccessarily be "indie," but if you really looking for edgy content, that's where you're going to find it. Likewise, you're going to have to do the same thing with games.
  11. I found this, the pictures give pretty much the whole story.: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/26865-powermac-g5-case-atx-retrofit-kit/ Also, I'm sure nothing inside that case will be compatable with your chosen motherboard. That means either he's going to have to deal with having no desktop computer until he finishes buying the parts, or he's going to need to buy everything at the same time. Hope this helps.
  12. In your example, how do you know that their actions are the cause of your anger, and not because of some other cause? How do you know that the solution to your anger is for them to change their bahavior in some specified way? Why do you believe that your desire to be free from anger, which you attribute to ther actions, should be superior (in their judgement) to whatever it is that they're choosing to do?
  13. I don't advocate wiping the slate. It's too hard, and more importantly I have no idea what a clean slate looks like. Prices and exchange are the best system known for allocating resources, I say just let them do their work.

  15. I experienced this thread as watching a part of you attempting to have a one-sided internal dialouge. One side appears to be opening a channel of communication by asking such a question, has the other side been given a chance to answer it?
  16. Oh, absolutely. That's the social system we advocate. That's the beauty of it. If peer pressure is what really rules the world, then anarcho-capitalists advocate that peer pressure should run the world. We just make it sound more coherent through important sounding acronums such as DRO and PDA (Personal Defense Agency).
  17. I see people snap at their children over inconsequential crap all the time.
  18. Perhaps what you're looking for is results. Those are easier to judge than an endless chain of citations.
  19. Yep. What is your opinion of the validity of sense perception?
  20. Apparently there's a campaign to put up a red "equal" image on facebook as your proficle pic while the Supreme Court considers gay marriage. I'm all for gay marriage (any marriage really), but I don't want some nine bozos in black robes telling 300 million people how to live their lives. I made these up real quick, use them if you like. Marriage Anacry! Also this one, turning the bars into precious metal.
  21. ...what about choosing a better partner?
  22. I'm sorry I mischarachterized your argument. Are you advocating the use of violence in self defense as a means to resist the state?
  23. If I (as an anarchist sitting in an ivory tower) were to rephrase your argument with 'less rosy' language, this would be my attempt: The State (a coercive government) is good and neccessary for a well functioning society. A prerequesite for a well functioning government (other than the regular initiation of violence and threats of violence), is that in regular intervals it is necessary for the entire society to be cast into a period of extreme violence, murder, and destruction. That to matintain order, thousands of people, including of course many bystanders, must die brutal deaths in regular intervals. Only when this period of death, desctruction, and brutality is complete can a new State be imposed to once again initiate and make threats of violence. Thus defines a functioning society, and how dare a bunch of stupid anarchists come up with crazy schemes to try and find another way for humanity to exist.
