It won't matter because the government itself will no longer be considered legitimate. The laws will be on the books, there may be officials still in office (not the actual buildings, just the legal position), but it'll be like a small social club.

Jobs lost from automation?
MrCapitalism replied to Mister Mister's topic in Libertarianism, Anarchism and Economics
App economy is sizzling with potential. " According to a study released earlier this year, nearly 500,000 mobile-tech jobs have been created since the iPhone was introduced in 2007. http://www.miamiherald.com/2012/11/23/3110966/app-economy-potential-sizzles.html Read more here: http://www.miamiherald.com/2012/11/23/3110966/app-economy-potential-sizzles.html#storylink=cpy -
It would solidify the state into the minds of fewer people, who command less respect in the rest of society. The struggle against the state isn't waged in election results, but in election turnout.

The world now if banking/banks never existed?
MrCapitalism replied to wodrock's topic in Miscellaneous
We'd probably be living in grass huts. (yes, I understand the distortions and corruption within the bank-supporting mortgage market..I still think they are that important as an institution) -
Response to Stef's comments on gaydom
MrCapitalism replied to Hsien Seong Cheong's topic in Self Knowledge
Welcome to FDR! This shouldn't be any kind of problem in a free society. "gay equality" as a concept doesn't even make sense anyways. You're an individual who has property rights and self-ownership. Contract and exchange with whomever you want. Have relationships with whoever you want. Self-identify with whatever groups and interests that you want. The sexual orientation 'gay' doesn't have a right to the ambiguous term 'equality.' Maybe some DRO's will be 'gay friendly.' Maybe some won't. I'm sure society can figure it out. If people don't understand your lifestyle, you can choose to inform them, or let them remain in ignorance. Regarding your tables-turned example: Good for all those underreported straight people who live normal lives like the gay majority! Other people they don't know can think and say whatever they want. (except for those who feel they have to live a lie, that just isn't any way to live, especially if you're forgoing the opportunity to meet some fantastic heterosexual women) -
My parents never told me that Santa Claus was real. They told me what they thought was the truth ("it's a story that gives us an excuse to give you presents, and Christmas was a time for the extended family to spend time together").I can't speak towards the experiences of others, but It didn't bother me at all. I think I remember telling a kid at school about it, but they freaked, I didn't bring up the topic anymore if I recall... We still celebrate Christmas, and I still give and recieve gifts from "Santa."

Just so we're clear: you're the poster who couldn't figure out why the lunar lander wasn't aerodynamic, how it maintained a pressure vessle, and how it kept a stable temperature. Let me guess.. you are expecting to see this: Do you know you're setting this argument up for fantastic failure?

The sun will eventually burn itself out of existence.... that's the cost of "free" energy. But that's not the point... like other's said, that's beyond the scope of human action and economics. I will concede that the energy radiated by the Sun is produced without cost, is unlimited (only a couple hundred square feet of ground recieves enough energy from the sun to power the every electrical device on the planet), and is freely accessable to anybody who is willing to utilize it... So yes. I agree. Now here's my argument: we are not plants. It costs time, energy, and resources to extract and transform solar energy into something usable.

The Rules of Capitalism
MrCapitalism replied to brainburn's topic in Libertarianism, Anarchism and Economics
Would you be wiling to boil that down to something substantially less than one and a half hours? There may be cheap energy, but there isn't free energy... -

There is no such thing as free energy. -
Imagine you lived in a world in which the eternal question of "Mac vs. PC" was settled by a vote... how do you think that would turn out?

Social media abuzz over Piers Morgan vs. Alex Jones
MrCapitalism replied to David L's topic in General Messages
Oh my gosh I was just going to post about this.I'm going to have to disagree with you guys. I'm by no means an Alex Jones fan, but I thought he absolutely hit it out of the park. That was amazing! Piers totally set Alex up for a fall, and Alex used the air time to totally demolish him. It was hard to watch him fire off a continuous rant, but I'm used to that from him by now, and once I started listenting I realized he was going s trong. Then Piers was all, "aren't you a 9/11 nut?" and Alex wasn't phased in the least... He talked casually about that topic like it was old news, brushed right over it. I personally think Piers Morgan got demolished in that interview. Alex Jones came off extremely prepared. -

Wow, I guess we can call Bill Gates and "old fogie"... he's like 10+ years behind the times... on this issue at least.
