What's the first real time example for this proposition that comes to mind for you?

Hi Prohexa, I've had contact with Michael about Stef's agenda during his stay in Amsterdam and evidently he's only available on the 26th. I understand money is an issue, same for me. If I was to make a reservation somewhere I'd need sufficient commitment from people willing to chip in that day. You are travelling with two persons if I remember correctly? What would be your maximum when chipping in for a meetup place outside of the festivities? Would +/- 15 euro be do-able? I'm waiting on some more info from an art-studio that might be willing to rent a space, more affordable for normal folks. It all depends on how many people are aboard. So far I have three people who say they're willing to pay for a somewhat private meetup place. Trouble is that pretty much all cafe's / rental places are closed for normal business, making no reservations because it's almost for certain that it'll become too crowded to keep any such promises. Personell is also an issue, nobody is willing to work for normal wages that day.

Did you try sending a direct e-mail to these locations Marius? I've just sent one to mixtup, the last location you mention above. in the meantime I'm waiting for committments by FDR members to pay up anywhere between 20 to 40 euro's depending on number of attendees / location. Sofar I have one reaction which is a vote for meeting up in Cafe de Jaren.

This message is also posted on the facebook event "April 2014 Freedomain Radio Amsterdam Meetup" Guys. There seems to be no meetup plan. Stef is only available for meeting up on the 26th, and he is staying in the center of Amsterdam near the Dam. Here is my plan, I have come up with two options and we'll need to decide soon in my opinion: We could casually meet at 10:00 am on the 26th in "Cafe de Jaren". http://www.cafedejaren.nl/nl/de-Jaren/Home.html . The place is going to get really crowded during the day, there may be no place to sit and have a relaxed conversation. We rent a place for a couple of hours on the 26th. I have spoken to one place with a very nice conference-room we can make reservations for, across the street from Stef's Hotel. They will have to open up for us, because all these places are closed on kings day. It's going to cost somewhere near 800 Euro to rent this place from say 14:00 to 17:00. If enough people are committed to going there and pay their share, I might be willing to make a reservation. Contact me if you're up for paying the divided cost and I'll decide in a day or two if it's a viable option in my opinion. If I get twenty solid commitments we're up to +/- 40 euro PP( excluding drinks etc) and we'll have a topnotch place to meet Stef. ( Assuming he'll be willing to skip some of the festivities and meet up with us that is If you're up for either of these plans please let me know by PM. Whatever comes out, I hope to meet you all on the 26th.

Hi Aaly, Great to meet you. I'm a local I guess (dedemsvaart). How did you find out about FDR?

Hi Steven and welcome! I'm a bit of a gold bug actually. I tend to have a look at some of the articles at 24hgold a couple of times a week ( Jim Willy CB) , and check prices on a daily basis. Fortunately I started buying in 2008, so recent losses haven't been a big setback in my case. What are your thoughts on PM's at the moment?

I'll see if I can find any venues of particular interest .. what I can already tell you is that the 25th , starting in the evening - night, and especially the 26th are going to be pretty intense in the center of town. Great fun (free trade!..lot's of festivities and music), but taxis and public transportation will be dead / impossible on the 26th, the city will be like a can of sardines full of people. Don't travel to and from A'dam on the 26th if you can help it. Don“t intend to meet people on appointed places, likely you will never get there on time even on foot.

Nice spot! Right in between the Vondelpark and the major musea. The Vondelpark ( Amsterdam's central park) offers some nice terraces / cafe's where we could arrange to meet up. I'll be there on the 24th, the 25th if I can get the day off.

Economics of Fine Art
Ruben Zandstra replied to callmeal's topic in Libertarianism, Anarchism and Economics
what does the state like in terms of art? I think the state likes it when a class of dependent and irrational quasi-intellectuals produce seemingly deep and important content that is guaranteed to not educate the audience in any dangerous way. The state fundamentally doesn't care what gets produced, as long as the main message is that rationality is impotent, and as long as it's all a complete distraction from state-force.- 24 replies

When I finished art school many years ago (with clenched teeth), without any proper philosophy to go on, in my culture-philosophical thesis I ended up defining our world as driven by autonomous technique (having read some Jacques Ellul). Specific to Art, I concluded that most modern artists are the ones producing autonomous propaganda, while imagining themselves to be freethinkers, an elite educating the herd, all the while being completely ignorant of the wooden bars of the babyboxes that confine them. Art school is kindergarten for adults. I hardly ever touched a pencil after I finished. I'd be very interested in your essay. But be aware, the more you go with this line of thinking (or let's just call it thinking) ... the harder it's going to be for you to make it through and get a diploma.- 24 replies

Yess!! I'll be there! Anything I can do? I'm a local ( 1,5 hours from Amsterdam)

1) I am doing this for you

Could you explain how "having political impact" is on a par with seeking and applying state force?
-
c) Violence for the sake of self-defense is self defeating because suspecting that you are in danger doesn't always include objective truth/reality therefore self-defense doesn't work. Being surrounded with offensive people will make you less aware of imminent danger. It will dull and harm your instincts, because at some level you are preparing for fight/flight all the time. Especially if you have been traumatised as a child, your danger-instincts are probably damaged and unreliable by default. Statement c) is probably more true to the degree that you stay in touch with people who are firmly dedicated to these kind of convictions.
-
Same as Lians: it's about making clear to the child that this is not right. Other than that: the supermarket line and family situations would require somewhat different approaches I think. In a family situation there is all the time in the world to reflect, anticipate, discuss, weigh options etc. At the bottom line you might think again why you have people in your life who treat their children (mildly) bad, and reconsider your next christmas plans. Whereas in a supermarket line there is only that single moment, a couple of glances, one chance to talk.

Perhaps today ...

Your brother (from what you write) reminds me of a character in Stef's novel "Almost". If you get a chance please read it.

I just keep on asking the religious people when they show up in my life. They'll talk all night about how god wants us to think for ourselves and seek medical help, how scientists are inspired by god etc etc. You'll feel frustrated at how they appear to be immune to logic, science and evidence while checking their smartphones for messages, while presenting you bad pizza from their fricking microwaves. But it will be heard, and remain to be processed by their unconsciousness long afterwards. It might help in the long run who knows.

I haven't worked my way through all the altcurrencies, but I'm pretty convinced that all the coins that can be exchanged to BTC on the exchanges ( mt gox, btc-e) are by now mineable in pools. And they probably should be mined in pools if you want a decent return on investment, unless you have a whole farm of powerful rigs and free electricity.
-
Best of luck Naer! I've got a mining-rig that's due to arrive somewhere this week. It's set up for mining litecoin when in comes in. The reason I chose LTC is because it's mineable with gpu, and pretty much accepted and interchangeable with btc on the exchanges. What would be the argument to go for other types of altcoin like PPC / CPU? I guess you hope to get higher gains in the future when they become more popular?

Me too. That's why I've been modestly spending and diversifying. Cashing out means paying taxes. A sensible observation by Peter Schiff imo
