  1. You have fundamental misunderstandings of the science you are referencing. talkorigins.org has the corrections to these very common creationist claims As for the OP, I think indoctrination is deceptive by definition and therefore wrong.
  2. They were persecuted/chased out of the midwest with the support of the local governments and were actually fleeing the US when they arrived in Utah, but the society they set up there was also quite collectivist. I'd say they're generally more distrustful of secular authority but are still quite happy to use the government to impose their bigotries (i.e. California Prop 8).
  3. Is it a private road where the penalty for speeding is non coercive such as exclusion? That could be voluntary, but I guess in general I'd support most things that reduce my interactions with armed people who have unresolved childhood trauma.
  4. I did the same when I was younger and now have the commercial version called Scattergories $10 on amazon, use the FDR affiliate link
  5. Why anybody would ever voluntarily add their name CC and GPS coordinates to the "people who cheat" database is beyond my understanding.
  6. Worth noting that the company didn't verify email addresses so the person who registered the email didn't necessarily control it. It does seem conclusive that Josh Duggar was a customer as they have credit cards billing to his home addresses. Is it bad that I like seeing him exposed as a scumbag again?
  7. Marriages are fundamentally contracts, what else would you call it? Most marriages have (at minimum) an implicit agreement to monogamy. If you don't have such an agreement to be monogamous it's not cheating. It's called an open relationship or something else. I've been reading about the Ashley Madison hack and have mixed feelings. I feel like it's good to see unethical people have some negative consequences for their actions, but I feel guilty about that and still support privacy.
  8. happy birthday
  9. I agree that a military offensive against ISIS is not justified, but it sort of is an American problem imo insofar as John Mccain and his buddies armed them.
  10. That was powerful, thanks for sharing. "The government works in mysterious ways."
  11. The Atheist Experience is a show that talks about creationism a lot https://www.youtube.com/user/TheAtheistExperience They frequently reference this site as the FAQ of creationism BS http://talkorigins.org/
  12. I had never heard of this guy before YT recommended his vid but I liked it. He talks about female violence and asks "where's the father?" https://youtu.be/eLqpC_nrzEs
  13. I saw this Stanhope bit recently and asked the same question. I can't imagine it being immoral to vote not guilty on victimless crime, I think I would do it if I had nothing else to do. https://youtu.be/1k4fYIUuAP8
  14. Same here. Contrary to normal, reading the comments on the video actually restores my faith in humanity a bit. She's being called out for sexism and there are 29 thumbs up versus 2800 down. edit: lol just looked again and comments have been disabled since I saw it a few days ago. The top was "Can't you people see how sexist she's being?" and it had like 500 up votes.
  15. Is this the height of mainstream secular philosophy? Muh roaaaaaads??!!!
  16. You answered your question. It's about access. Similar to way that a god in another dimension with no access to ours and undetectable to us is the same as nonexistent, infinite resources which are inaccessible to us are useless and effectively finite. We just need some exotic matter to power one of these and the zeitgeist will arrive https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alcubierre_drive
  17. My web search only finds articles from the local news and RT. Since his victims are male I don't expect any uproar from the Emma Watson crowd. I have heard about the bogus "1 in 5 women are assaulted in college" stat a bunch lately. It's been debunked but if we count TSA groping as sexual assault it's probably higher than 1 in 5 air travelers... "Although the TSA learned of the accusation on Nov. 18, 2014 via an anonymous tip from one of the agency’s own employees, reports show that it would be nearly three months before anything was done." 3 MONTHS! http://denver.cbslocal.com/2015/04/13/cbs4-investigation-tsa-screeners-at-dia-manipulated-system-to-grope-mens-genitals/ edit: I had searched for "denver tsa arrested" and didn't find most of the stories because nobody has been arrested...
  18. My point is that men have gone to prison for what you described and I was suggesting you protect yourself from the wrath of the law as well as an angry lover. The fact that there is a malleable definition of rape goes to my point which is that you should avoid any activity that needs to be explained as "not technically rape" because I guarantee you there are a thousand prosecutors with women's studies minors who are happy to broaden the definition and lock you up to fit their political ambitions. Just because what you did may have been morally permissible doesn't mean it wasn't a bad idea.
  19. Call me a puritan for thinking it's a bad idea to have sex with someone who is engaged and repeatedly asking you to stop. It's just my preference, but if you have to get technical about the definition of rape I don't want to be pals. Call me a bigot or feminist or whatever. Suppose she admits the relationship to him and says "But I asked him to stop 100 times" might be a moral grey area but you're going to have a bad time... Edit: on topic of the thread. Can you empathize with the partner of the person with whom you are cheating?
  20. Indeed! I used that as a conversation starter for a while "I think drunk driving should be legal, what do you think?"
  21. +1 I've exceeded my allotment of upvotes for the day Maddox did a great write up and brought up good questions like "Is anybody checking any facts before giving this guy 30k and a party?" http://thebestpageintheuniverse.net/c.cgi?u=dancing_man
  22. I used to live there and Mormons are pretty good with regard to interpersonal type UPB still generally statist but less than other Christians. IMO because they were fleeing the US when they moved to Utah (it was part of Mexico in 1847 iirc). Really nice people because they are earning a nicer heaven by doing so, but they think you can be "saved" after death by having righteous people baptized in your name so I think they're more flippant about death/killing. Some guy famously had himself baptized to absolve the sins of Hitler. I heard of a guy on death row maybe 10-20 years ago who requested firing squad in Utah. Maybe they're making it an option to the convict but that's not how it seemed from the article.
  23. The leaders who have the authority to exclude people would be the ones I am referring to and not every person who is a member. I hope you guys take over the state and show the rest of the country how great liberty can be. Of course property owners have the right to exclude a person I just think it was dumb if Cantwell's story is true.
  24. From what I've read they seem more into political solutions than principles. I also find it troubling that they kicked out Chris Cantwell and threatened to call the police on him because they didn't like his views on self defense.
  25. "Things that happen 1 in 64 million times actually happen all the time"
