Yes, I kind of assumed a constitutional amendment abolishing the income tax was implied.

fwiw the past tense of "to be" in Arabic sounds a lot like it. Maybe they hate us not for our freedom but because their language sounds evoke anger... <--not at all serious

Nice post Mike. Cult is a highly charged word and I think illustrating these parallels might be a good way to get a "blue pill" person to reconsider the virtue of the state.

Chomsky says nearly every utterance is unique, so he'd say yes...

Is there evidence to back up this statement? I've heard it a lot and it never really seemed rational to me. Best wishes in your recovery.

http://www.fairtax.org/site/PageServer?pagename=FAQs Good info. He was saying mostly the same stuff I was thinking except I didn't realize that some people would get more back in the "prebate" than they pay in taxes. And his conclusion is spot on, the problem is out of control gov spending much more than how they collect the money.

I was thinking more along the lines of talking to statist acquaintances. Perhaps I could just use it as a conversation starter to point out the immorality of taxation and the corruption of the irs

The name is an oxymoron imo but FairerTax.org just doesn't have the same ring to it. Apparently the Fair Tax is coming up for a committee vote in the US house. Basic idea behind it is a flat sales tax and abolition of the IRS. I advocated for this before I came to be an anarchist and I'm wondering what other FDR members think of it. Abolishing the IRS would serve to severely limit government power and the ability to give out sweetheart tax breaks to the well connected. I feel like that's the reason it will never happen. I've heard people call this a voluntary tax, but there will certainly be government violence enforcing it. Is it hypocritical to ask for more gentle assrape from our overlords? Maybe it's simply a waste of time?

Yeah, I think he might dislike a lot of the same things I disliked about it. He's in touch with a recruiter who obviously is going to suggest joining the military. It's common sense to consider what you might not like about the career with an 8 year commitment and to expect the recruiter to not talk about those things. Yes again I agree WRT interview, only reason I'd do it is to keep him from getting the job. I'd agree with you about approaching him directly and maybe I'm reading too much into this, but it seems clear to me he doesn't want to talk about it. I'm assuming from this lack of communication that he desires none. If ever I had advice to offer, this would probably be it. He knows that and he choose to keep me out of the decision process. He's already "sworn in" so I think there's supposed to be no turning back now.

...and he didn't even tell me. So it's my wife's brother and we're fairly close (or I thought so). I just heard from someone else that he signed up for the army and I'm aghast. Partly at the fact that I think the military is immoral and partly at the fact that he never mentioned it to me. He's in his early 20s, I'm about 10 yrs older and I was in the military. I got out a few years back because I realized it was evil although I have only in the past couple months been introduced to anarchy and started talking about how taxation is theft. Since I'd rate myself as the most obvious person in his life to talk to about this and he didn't I'm assuming our relationship means basically nothing to him. I'm not crazy for skipping family dinner tonight, right? I think he's going for a job with a clearance in which case I may get interviewed by gov types. Would it be wrong to try to get him disqualified from the job? He was physically abused by a religious authority type over an extended period and I honestly think he shouldn't join even if the military were somehow a moral entity.

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie goes after libertarians
Jer replied to Alan C.'s topic in Current Events
I kept wishing during the 2012 campaign that somebody would ask Obama if he'd trust Romney with the power to unilaterally assassinate US citizens. I know I wouldn't want Christie in charge of the NSA, or anything else... -
I just read the lyrics to "Young Men Dead" for the first time, powerful song. Fire for the hills pick up your feet and lets go. Head for the hills pick up steel on your way. And when you find a piece of them in your site, fire at will, don't you waste no time. Another thought of the unaware, addiction in disguise. With a drop of blood, you will take them out, for me. Fire from the hills pick up speed and lets go. Fire for real, yeah shoot to kill with no aim. Head for the hills, yes eyes on the camp fire glow. Creep up there like a white mink hiding in snow. And outta black a figure forms a soldier in the sky. With a drop of love, trying to set you free. Run for the hills, pick up your feet and lets go. We did our jobs, pick up speed now lets move. The trees cant grow without the sun in their eyes. And we can't live if we're too afraid to die. Hold on tight, yes hold on tight you're too slow. Fire at the breeze that blows these thoughts through our mind. Hire only thieves to steal the thoughts from our heads. My thoughts: The theme seems to be a clear critique of war and how old men start wars that the young men fight. "With a drop of blood, you will take them out, for me." Killing is good when you're ordered to do it. "With a drop of love we will set you free" "The trees cant grow without the sun in their eyes. And we can't live if we're too afraid to die." Don't fall prey to fearmongering. "They who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety." -Ben Franklin "Fire at the breeze that blows these thoughts through our mind." Resist Propaganda "Hire only thieves to steal the thoughts from our heads" Politicians...

Stefan's lack of integrity with Chomsky interview
Jer replied to FreeEach's topic in General Messages
That word you keep using, integrity, I do not think it means what you think it means. In a conversation you can be friendly, find common ground, and still maintain integrity. -
Stefan's Comments On Civilization
Jer replied to Philosphorous's topic in Libertarianism, Anarchism and Economics
Did you make this post from a tipi or mud hut? -
I couple years ago I saw an ad for a "kit" in a hospital that you could get to send your kid's fingerprints and dna samples to the US government. For the safety of the children, of course... How about no?
-
There's your problem. Youtube comments are notoriously idiotic and deserve as much of your attention as messages scribbled on the wall of a bathroom stall. You value Stefan's opinion more than some random on youtube, right? So just remember his time is valuable too and he will end the conversation if he thinks it is unproductive.

Animal abuse in an anarchist society?
Jer replied to kanuuker's topic in Libertarianism, Anarchism and Economics
Is taking his animals a violation of the NAP? While I love animals and find abuse reprehensible I don't think they have the same self defense protections such that I'd be justified breaking into his house to save them. -
Animal abuse in an anarchist society?
Jer replied to kanuuker's topic in Libertarianism, Anarchism and Economics
? Have you listened to Stefan's stateless prisons podcast? Road owners refusing passage would be a HUGE deterrent. If the guy has a house and lives near people he's definitely going to have an easier life if he can buy water, fuel, food, etc. Where does he get the animals? Basically nobody will sell them to a known abuser. What about the root of the problem? Why is this guy abusing animals? As I understand it, this is a symptom of childhood trauma and I believe a society based on the NAP would greatly reduce this. "Don't teach people to speak the language of violence" works just as well with regard to animals IMO. -

Ostracism I guess. What would we do about that now? If it's some mountain man in the woods I doubt the cops are going to bother going after him. -
Will the price of bitcoin keep going up ?
Jer replied to aFireInside's topic in Libertarianism, Anarchism and Economics
Will the value of the dollar continue to fall? Signs point to yes... But obviously BTC is high risk like others mentioned -
This is the case in protestant churches, so I'd assume you're correct Dave. When I went they'd always say it's for the believers and never pressure a person to take it. One thing I noticed about churches in my area is lots of people who are like rejects and have no other place to go will attend just because they want some interaction with people. They never learned how to make friends so they go to a place where people are mandated to be nice. The church my in-laws go to actually buses in mentally handicapped people, maybe that catholic church does too...

Your title says the words logic, and proof. I found neither. You didn't even make any assertions. Try to understand that your audience can't read your mind, all we have to go on is what you typed and it was just a bunch of fragmented thought. Sorry for not being more gentle. What I should have said was "could you explain it another way?" Don't neg me bro, it hurts my feelings

Good to hear, I listened to Glenn Beck a bunch when I was getting into liberty. Do you think he's popular/having a good influence there? I'd love it if Utah became more friendly to freedom, it's a beautiful place.

Overpopulation in a free market world
Jer replied to Ashton's topic in Libertarianism, Anarchism and Economics
It does seem kind of racist the way you complain about non whites moving to your town... Why should you have more right to live there than a person born in Africa?
