[H&W] Oral health. Oil pulling. Secrets of tooth decay.
algernon replied to A4E's topic in Science & Technology
It's a bit ridiculous to think humans are the only animals that have to use a specialized brush and Crestâ„¢ to prevent their teeth from falling out. With many animals you can determine their health - which is mainly due to diet - by looking at their teeth or coat. When my wife was pregnant with our first she went to the dentist with her teeth hurting and came home crying, she was given the diagnosis of pre-periodontal disease. She would need life long dental work, every 6 months of painful gum scrapings, or all of her teeth would surely fall out. After a few minutes of research I learned half of US adults are in the same category. That's when I started my research and found this book - http://www.amazon.com/Cure-Tooth-Decay-Cavities-Nutrition/dp/1434810607/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1463410412&sr=8-1&keywords=cure+tooth+decay Her being pregnant is also important to the story, because pregnancy is much like a parasite that sucks all of the nutrients from the woman's body. The fetus receives nutrients as a priority over the host, prenatal vitamins are for the mother in most cases, not the baby. Many people view teeth as these dead objects in your mouth, which can only be hurt by what touches them, and only cured by modifying them on the outside. Who here has ever been to a dentist that recommended dietary changes or supplementation to help cure teeth? Back to the book - after implementing the dietary changes it recommended, and finding some excellent supplements that support healthy teeth, neither of us have been to the dentist in 7+ years, and neither of us have any dental pain or issues. -
Why is it bad to break someone's leg with a baseball bat?
algernon replied to afterzir's topic in Philosophy
"Why is it bad to break someone's leg with a baseball bat?" Simple answer is it's not. What if someone asks you to hit them in the leg with a baseball bat? Is it immoral to punch someone in the head and knock them out? What about boxing or MMA? The situation determines the morality of the action, not the action itself. -
Nothing quite like the mind bending, head exploding hypocrisy of someone doing to you, what they just accused you of doing.

Long silver since 2002, 2003 here. I was still a teenager then, of course I wish I put all my money into it at that time. But I'm sure everyone says that with purchases that increase significantly. Still waiting for it to hit $50+ again. Bought some of Chris Duane's silver mintage, too bad he jumped the shark.

Hey Jake, I'm sorry to have to say this but you're on a bandwagon that people have been abandoning for years now, you should probably research this some more. I also saw you mention something previously about saturated fat, this meat/cholesterol/sat fat scar mongering has been pretty well established to have been BS some time ago. Melomama - http://tinyurl.com/h4hbeom Full URL - http://examine.com/blog/scientists-just-found-that-red-meat-causes-cancer--or-did-they/?utm_source=Examine.com+Insiders&utm_campaign=34d0d95b1b-Red_mead10_27_2015&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_e4d662cb1b-34d0d95b1b-57675373&ct=t%28Red_mead10_27_2015%29&goal=0_e4d662cb1b-34d0d95b1b-57675373&mc_cid=34d0d95b1b&mc_eid=69e8f91e2e The statement "Red meat causes cancer" is more fear mongering and BS. Just like everything in life, it's dose dependent and there are negative and positive benefits from consuming the food. Fructose is unhealthy as well, eating fruit in moderation is good for you. One could very easily find the unhealthy portion of almost any food and say "Don't eat that, it has XYZ and is unhealthy!"

The Married Convert Must Convert At Least One Person
algernon replied to mishochu's topic in General Messages
Is the assistance you receive when you are a child somehow make you indebted to others, do you owe your parents for all of the food they bought for you as children? "But they fed me, I have to repay them..." If I steal your identity and purchase a house, are you required to pay for it? Of course you can live in a room of it if you wish, but according to government you are responsible for the mortgage... My point is, you cannot be morally obligated to a debt you were never consulted with or agreed to. Just like if someone were to steal your ID and purchase something on credit, you are not morally obligated for that debt. Do you think perhaps your relationship has turned into a bit of a win-lose scenario (or maybe has always been that way)? Sometimes the mindset develops in such a way where if one considers the other as winning, then they have to be the loser, and it can never be win-win for either party. I am blessed and cursed, where as with my spouse she will easily conform to what I think is best. Once I came to the realization that peaceful parenting was the only option (luckily before our first child) she was relieved as she said she never wanted to hit our children, as we were both raised with "spanking" being the only option. The relief being she will easily conform to my opinion, the curse being she easily conforms to my opinion, I suppose if you can't have someone that is a strong self thinker, have that person be exposed to someone that is, and hopefully a good outcome will follow. -
Can you expand upon what you mean by disincentives with a real life example?

Voting for the Lesser of Two Evils
algernon replied to jason_'s topic in Libertarianism, Anarchism and Economics
Regarding the topic of voting, I usually post this video as it makes the point quite clear - https://youtu.be/vb8Rj5xkDPk?t=11s -
Yes, it is technically illegal to not register for the draft. Will anything bad happen if you refuse to do so? Probably not. If you need assistance from the state, you will need to comply to the demands, pretty simple. Registering for the draft is not joining the military, and if for some reason a draft was instituted I think the time to decide to not comply would be when actually being drafted, and the registration being less important. I was told at 18 I had to register, and not knowing better I did. That does not mean I will *ever* be in the military, regardless of the situation. I have not looked into the topic in depth, but it's hard to believe there aren't other options in achieving what you're trying to do without using the state. You obviously have the internet, maybe that would be a good place to start.

Congratulations on reaching the logical conclusion. You would be surprised, or perhaps maybe not, how many people never do. I'm not real sure about the staying at peace question, maybe it's the same type of peace many people make when they realize they are dying (sooner rather than later) and it's something they just accept. The initial shock is learning you are about to die, just like learning everyone you are surrounded by wants to kill you and steal your possessions, the shock is learning the truth, the peace comes from the understanding. Oh the proselytizing, I remember those days. What a rude awakening it is when you learn most people are zombies. Those that will debate are simply repeating the party lines, refusing to think for them self and it does get very tiring, how many times can you argue against "But who would build the roads!?!?". Full freedom anytime soon is unlikely, but you can help the cause of freedom through peaceful parenting if nothing else, if a small percentage of people peacefully raised their children, I think freedom would be close at hand. I rarely hear this mentioned, but I do believe there is some usefulness in studying basic law and applying it to your adversaries. The system is designed to control stupid and initiated people, if you put up a meager fight you can succeed in far more freedom than most. I hear many statements as definitives when it comes to government control, that is rarely the case.

Can you find any evidence of an individual dismantling the power of the state to any measurable degree through peaceful and political means? Say we elected Ron Paul type characters for the next 100 years, would the state be measurably smaller? Would we be more free? The president is not the king, a lot of people treat them like they are ... "Obama did this to me!" ... the president can veto, which makes passing new regulation harder, but it can still be bypassed. The possibility of Trump being elected is extremely small, regardless of how well he appears to be doing. The general population does not vote for the president, the electorates do, some states they are legally bound to follow the majority vote but laws mean nothing... Assuming when you cast your untraceable vote into the voting machine it even counts it. Say somehow he did become elected, just like Ron Paul in congress, other than perhaps exposing lies and helping people wake up, he would be largely ineffective. Was Ron Paul able to stem the growth of the state? If through a huge error he was able to somehow become elected, and somehow try and make a significant change, he would be impeached, threatened or eliminated. I believe the only significant change will happen after it collapses from its own massive weight. The political process will not help, I'm afraid.

They could, people would just say it's fake. That's my point. There are thousands of videos and stories of people being there. Anyone who says they have 24 hour days are simply lying. It's impossible with the FE model and therefore any evidence that contradicts the FE model is fake. How does this change your mind in regards to the whole FE theory?

I understand what he's saying, his point is a bridge with a slight rise in the middle won't have water flow over it, comparing the arch of a bridge to the earth. Except it would have water flow over it, if the arch matched the same dimensions of the earth. I am curious about my Antarctica question, JP - is everyone lying about having been to Antarctica?

I think this is a good video that easily helps one visual how gravity works. -

Why I believe the system will hit the fan
algernon replied to Thomasio's topic in Libertarianism, Anarchism and Economics
On a long enough timeline the survival rate for everyone drops to zero. I think this is fitting to include countries and currencies as well. When? At this point no one knows. I've been paying attention long enough to know when someone says when, they've always been wrong, so far. Every year keep say next year and eventually you'll be right. In reality no idea when. Be prepared as best as possible and keep living. -
I understand what you're saying, I put the earth into CAD, drew a straight line and you're correct in the middle the difference is almost a mile. The problem is they wouldn't have bored a straight line, they would have dug 75' deep the entire 125 miles, which would be following the curve of the earth. Then assuming gravity pulls everything to the middle of the earth, the water would flow into it fine at 75' deep, the water does not stay truly level, it follows the circumference of the earth. Here is the CAD drawn to scale - https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B6p4FULWbCOhQTBwWGNicHlJenc The inside of the blue line is the reported size of the earth, the outside is 1 mile taller depicting water 1 mile deep. The line is 125 miles long straight across. As you can see the water would follow the earth, imagine land being at start and end of the line, you would just dig down 75 following the curve, and the water would flow in and stay there.

Why are you being so hostile, are you concerned your self image is somehow tied to an internet forum, and someone tarnishing that is going to harm you? I see no evidence of JP being a bad person, maybe they are undetermined and had some questions regarding the math, "If the earth is a sphere, how does this math work?". Apparently so, you took the time to log in, read his post and then reply. Why did you engage in the conversation?

Hey JP, I heard that podcast too, and I was quite interested because I had seen some of the flat earth stuff previous to that, and at first glance I was sure it was just a parody website, but after the call I did about 3 hours worth of research, and no... a lot of people truly believe it. And a lot of the true believers were using it to prove their faith. There is a few fundamental problems that has yet to be explained. If the earth is shaped like a dinner plate, the north pole being the middle and Antarctica being the ice wall / ring on the perimeter, using the FE theory of light not traveling forever and that's why there is day/night on different sides of the plate, it would be impossible for Antarctica to ever have an Arctic summer (24 or near 24 hours of daylight). All of the articles I read and different explanations from people, explained a lot of things, and do you know what the explanation for that one was? Antarctica doesn't have an Arctic summer, it never has continual daylight and everyone that says it does is lying. And this comes up a lot in the FE theory. Literally thousands and thousands of people, all lying or they were deceived and weren't really in Antarctica. The web cams in Antarctica? Faked. Anything from anyone, stating observations or showing empirical evidence against the FE theory is in on the hoax, lying or deceived. This is the standard MO of everything I read: e.g. I send a weather balloon really high up and it doesn't show curvature - FE proof. I send a weather balloon high up and it shows curvature - in on the hoax, trying to fool everyone, shill, government agent, etc. etc. etc. Can you please explain your Suez Canal issue in more detail? I'm not quite understanding what your point is.

How do you think it will change a child's perception and understanding growing up on a farm, seeing animals hump on a semi regularly basis? When a bull is doing the business, there isn't much guessing to be had at what's going on... Maybe that's a good way to teach children in a less graphic age when they're younger? Animal anatomy. I think perhaps it can be traumatizing and so awkward for children because that's how all of the adults around them treat it.

Have you looked into the Ron Paul curriculum? http://www.ronpaulcurriculum.com/ I've heard good things but have not personally looked into it (yet). I was homeschooled my entire childhood, I can emphatically say most of it was a waste of time. Much beyond the basics to an uninterested student, it is all memorized, regurgitated then forgotten. I've looked into the trivium concept of learning, I plan on researching it more as my daughter gets closer to "school" age. My goal with her is to find what she is interested in and then learn all of the details of whatever it may be, and how it might work, which will lead to other avenues of interest and continued learning. Can you be friend with a stripper ?
algernon replied to Lost Lenore's topic in Men's Issues, Feminism and Gender
We were given no information on the type of club she works at, statistically there are more low end, trashy strip clubs than high quality ones. My point is just because she's a stripper does not automatically mean she is pretty. Most strip club patrons don't even care as long as they get to see tits. I never said she was immoral, I said she was likely to have some serious issues. Apparently her being a stripper is important to the conversation, as this was the only information we were given of her. Based on the only information we can assume she is the average, and not the outlier. If he wanted advice on being friends with a female he could have appraised us of the situation and friendship and asked for advice, completely ignoring her being a stripper. Let's try this - "Can you friends with a female banker?". "Can you be friends with a teacher?" If these are misconceptions or generalizations that are incorrect, the OP can give us more information. -
The Importance of Waiting before cutting the umbilical cord!!!
algernon replied to LovePrevails's topic in Peaceful Parenting
You're accusing me of being condescending and somehow losing confidence or courage, yet you appear to be changing your argument mid sentence without admitting to it. The intention of the monkey comment was not to sound snarky or insult you, it was simply a comparison by how the lotus birth is treated by humans, it starts to rot and smell, they disguise the smell. An animal would just eat it and be done with it. Were you not arguing for a lotus birth, and the natural detachment of the placenta? It can take up to ten days for the cord to naturally detach from the baby, as far as I can tell your argument has been to leave the cord and placenta attached to the baby until it dries up and falls off. In order to handle the baby and move it around you will have to wrap up the placenta and somehow carry it around with you. They make placenta bags. Did you not find it fitting to mention because it completely changes the argument?
