  1. I would think has some truth ( although I agree with you about the use of psyche) , There is some evidence that the language you speak affects the way you think. If you can think in different ways, this has broadened your scope. Its not clear how much of an effect language has though
  2. Ok , and by anthropological truth, do you mean which is what you posted right after mentioning anthropological truth? If not, can you explain what you mean by "the anthropological truth of the gospel"?
  3. so let me see if I have understood correctly. this which you posted when I asked for evidence is evidence for
  4. You posted the above, and are claiming that it's evidence of something. I don't know what it's evidence of. I am assuming that it's evidence of the existence of God or the veracity of Christianity or something along those lines , but it is actually evidence of neither.
  5. You are right, I didnt get you to clarify what assertion your evidence was in support of. So, can you clarify for me?
  6. I must have missed all your points, because I cant point to one bit of evidence that you have presented. Just pick one and present it to me in a way that I can understand.
  7. how was it a mistake if its the same definition as a dictionary definition?
  8. the definition I got, from googling "objective and subjective" while not directly from a dictionary website is the same as the dictionary definition so no, I wasnt being dishonest.
  9. Right, thats what my definitions said Ok, but this is the definition of objective as a noun, not as an adverb. saying objectively christian does NOT mean that you are intending to accomplish a purpose or goal. I feel that this is very dishonest of you, although it may be a genuine mistake on your part
  10. ok, the link I sent wasnt a dictionary, but the definitions are definitely dictionary definitions. You have never heard of subjective and objective used this way, but you have heard of it as meaning sharing the same objectives? Where, What dictionary?
  11. Its the dictionary definition. Definitions are subjective, in that they are agreed upon, so no, I cant point to facts to prove it . I can point you to a dictionary for the generally agreed upon definition.
  12. from http://www.differencebetween.net/language/difference-between-objective-and-subjective/ Objective is a statement that is completely unbiased. It is not touched by the speaker’s previous experiences or tastes. It is verifiable by looking up facts or performing mathematical calculations. Subjective is a statement that has been colored by the character of the speaker or writer. It often has a basis in reality, but reflects the perspective through with the speaker views reality. It cannot be verified using concrete facts and figures. I have never heard it used to mean share the same objectives. Neither have I heard subjective used to mean being a subject of someone else. Being objectively christian does not mean sharing the same objectives.
  13. Thats not the usual meaning of objective and subjective.
  14. I have no idea what this means or what you are trying to say
  15. incorrect. Its the insinuation that atheists are lying/cowards/hiding head in sand that has annoyed me. the op, and you , have asked leading or loaded questions from the start. Why is fear of death strange? you will be no more. Thats pretty scary stuff. regret as in, I want more, I could have done more, I could do more , etc
  16. like I said, maybe I am reading too much into it, but this is what I get from your question I dont get a sense that you are curious of what the answer is, you insult and insinuate ("The philosophy of the ostrich. How banal. I'd choose anything but that") . Of course its about theism/atheism, its in the question ! Its in the Atheism/religion sub section of the board! you start off your question with "Assuming one believes in complete annihilation at death, no soul transmigration, no afterlife, etc." This directly relates to theism , god, etc ie, "given that there is no god, how does that make you feel when you look at death?" Why are you asking this? what relevance does it have to anything? If you just asked, how do you feel when you look at death, that would be a different question, theres no shoehorning in of motives or hidden assumptions or questions. contemplating death, I get sadness, or fear, or regret, or worry.
  17. that is a better phrasing of the question, although it still is slightly disingenuous, in that it implies that atheists should ( and do ) think of life as a hopeless morbid thing. It comes with the implication ( perhaps I am reading too much into it, I dont know) that, without a belief in god, there is no hope, or enjoyment, that all is morbid and depressing. Lets say thats true, it STILL doesnt make it true that there is a god. If you want to believe in a god because it makes you feel better, thats up to you. That is the conclusion behind this question. you are basically saying "it must be really depressing to not believe in life after death" and my answer is "Im not going to believe in something just because it might make me feel better"
  18. no, I am not saying that, and that is a totally different question from "what drives you to live as an atheist". the answer is, because I dont believe in a deity. Which is inherent in the question ( atheism) so thats why the question doesnt make sense to me, and implies that there is more going on than just the simple question, the OP had an agenda to bring.
  19. maybe the question doesnt make much sense? But keep insulting
  20. Huh? this doesnt make sense. what is it that has some influence over the brain? consciousness?
  21. I am sure there must be examples of parents who beat their children for running out in to the street, and later on their children got run over. So, it doesnt work. It may work some of the time, in the same way that picking a random horse to bet on wins some of the time. You have yet to explain what hitting achieves, and what is the mechanism by which it achieves it?
