Suggestion: CDN to speed-up downloads and reduce ping

OK, I figured out what happened, sorry about that! That file was omitted in the upload because the filename didn't match the pattern I was using. It should be available in about an hour. -

If you've been trying to download the recent podcasts (anything over 2400), you might want to restart your downloads... the CDN will treat you so kindly and gently... -

I appreciate the article. I wasn't trying to say that a CDN is a bad idea but what we need doesn't come cheap. I'm not on the financial side here, though, and we are getting quotes, so we will have something in place before too long. -
Suggestion: CDN to speed-up downloads and reduce ping

So yesterday we had 500GB of bandwidth consumption. That would include us getting swamped and having to rate limit during the last few hours of the evening. I can only suspect that today would be similar. We don't have 500GB days every day, but it's reasonable to expect that we will be seeing more of them in the future. We're averaging around 250GB per day right now. Yay growth! -

Thanks for the links. Can you make any recommendations per your experience? I'm pretty new to CDNs from the tech side of things. I can get more information regarding the throughput expectations later. But just for now, the traffic to the site had increased such that the 100mbps network interface was completely slammed. There are no available upgrades with the current hosting provider. The other thing to keep in mind is that we do have a bandwidth allowance of 20TB per month on the webserver so anything that allows us to take advantage of that would be a plus, but it's not absolutely required. We also have plenty of application capacity; it's the network that limits us right now. -

We were getting totally slammed last night and the server was barely accessible. We put a rate limit on the downloads so that people are still able to access them, but that unfortunately means that people will be slowed down. We are looking into other alternatives. If you have any specific cost-effective suggestions, I would be happy to hear them. -
Parents do far more damaging things for "aesthetics" (see: circumcision). I'm not sure I have any answers here, but I do have a few thoughts. What is your husband's relationship like with his sister and brother in law? What were their childhoods like? Has he had anything to say to his sister about this? Perhaps you could ask them what they want their relationship with their child to be like when she grows up, and how might causing her truly unnecessary pain affect that relationship. I mean, getting a shot at the doctor also hurts, but it is frequently necessary when the child is very young. To answer the more immediate question with my opinion... I think I would not go and would be very clear why: "you're asking me to celebrate causing your daughter unnecessary pain and I will not be a part of it."

Not seeing this behavior, either. What browser are you using on what operating system?

Anarchist alternatives to police?
JamesP replied to Marmites11's topic in Libertarianism, Anarchism and Economics
Asking what happens if you are attacked is jumping ahead of many many steps in the exploration of personal safety. Even in today's statist world, the best defense is self-knowledge and orchestrating your life so as to avoid attack as much as possible. A free society would have so much less predation with the absence of a state that you would be able to see danger coming from a long way away. -
To add another couple of analogies: I can tell you how I lost weight, but I can't burn off your fat for you. I can tell you how I managed to wakl again after a tragic accident, but I can't do physical therapy for you. I can tell you how I manage my diabetes, but I can't take the insulin shots for you. Self-knowledge isn't a possession. It's like health–it comes about through the accumulation of good habits and self-care. There are some who will probably never pursue self-knowledge. There are also some who make some efforts but abandon them for some reason (usually due to some relationship they don't want to examine too closely). Did you disagree with this statement?

The most important part of the child's environment are the parents themselves.

OK, I'll look at that... try setting the Severity to something other than "0" and let me know if that works. If so, I think I've seen this before. Kind of annoying, but good to know what the problem is.

When do you get that error?

Yes, it's a XSS (cross-site scripting) prevention thing that became standard in the past few years. What that means (among other things) is that the browser won't transfer cookies across different hostnames unless you explicitly indicate that it's OK to do so. This is a problem for the download files since the files are effectively behind a paywall (so to speak). It's just easier to make sure everything is on the same server, or that you control all the domains in question. ---- OK, cool, it seems to be working OK, at least initially. One question: can we not have it automatically start downloading right away? I think that will inflate the download count. -

Hey, can you give me a ZIP or something that contains all of necessary files? I implemented the player but I think there are some XSS issues preventing the SWF from reading the mp3 file. -
