  2. The term 'anti social' in relation to psychopathy or sociopathy (some people define all three differently, some say they are all the same thing) doesn't mean avoiding social interaction, it refers to antisocial personality disorder. ASPD has more to do with impulsivity and a lack of empathy or remorse, and a disregard for any sort of laws or social rules or the rights of others. With that in mind I would say statism is the true manifestation of human psychopathy, by giving psychopaths access to guns and armies to violate the rights of others and not requiring them to convince other people to surrender their resources voluntarily.
  3. People often get different results with Meyers Briggs when taking the test(s) at different times, I tend to go back and forward between INTJ and INTP. It's not an exact science.
  4. Not sure what you mean by "Sociopaths don't go full retard in their manipulations.", Often times they'll just make up absurd stuff, or say whatever they can think of to win you over, regardless of whether it makes sense or is consistent with anything else they've said, as long as they deliver it right people will go a long with it. Think Frank Abagnale with the out of order deposit box. I had someone tell me he was swiss royalty once and he needed me to cash a $10,000 cashiers check his mother was mailing him. I looked him up and he was regularly running this scam on women successfully. Often they seem pretty dumb and just rely on charm. Sociopaths know even if someone realizes what they're saying isn't adding up they will often still ignore their intuition and logic and allow themselves to be won over by charm.

You already pay for shoes, so why don't I steal money from you at gunpoint and I promise that will be used to bring you better shoes at a lower cost.
  6. One thing I noticed when looking for therapists is some have a list of recommended books and those who focus on addiction sometimes will list In the Realm of Hungry Ghosts, which would be a sign they are coming from that school of thought, if you find therapists in your area that specialize in addiction and look through their websites that might be helpful. Here in the Seattle area there are some secular AA groups, there are also SMART recovery groups which are secular and don't follow the 12 step program, you can find them in your area at http://www.smartrecovery.org/and http://www.waaft.org/ . I've found the groups and group therapy are very helpful and most specialists I think will tell you you need to be around sober people in recovery, I second J.D.'s point that you should be able to be assertive about your beliefs.
  7. LibertarianSocialist is referring to the Perfect Competition model, an (off-topic), ill-defined, and useless model for describing anything that happens in reality or in a free market. The only thing required for a free market is that people don't violate the NAP. The market among people who are enslaved can't really be said to be a free market because by definition some behaviors or actions of the participants will invoke the use of force by their masters. Still, I think you will still see some aspects of free markets take place since the laws of praxeology still hold, just like some parts of the market still operate relatively freely under states in the modern world. Or even in a very restrictive environment like a prison you will still see some bartering and market principles operating.
  8. ... Not sure why you are tormenting yourself, it looks like just a dumb little quiz from a statist paradigm. If the statement contains a 'should', mark it N, if not mark it P. I think maybe you are overthinking things a little
  9. I think it is very important, it's undeniably true that both parties have gained from a voluntary transaction, but its an important point that the value they've gained is nothing intrinsic in the items that were traded, it's all relative to people's preferences. This is different from the other theories of value (labor theory of value, use value), and the reason Austrians reject empirical methods for economics, you can't make calculations or design experiments around values that are subjective and not measurable.
  10. See the section on the historical development of the term inflation I posted above. Up until very recently, the definition of the term inflation at least was related to an increase in the supply of currency. When you think about it, the term doesn't even make much sense to use 'inflation' to mean 'prices increasing'. The non-economics definition of inflation, like you said, means for the volume of something to expand, as in a balloon with air.
  11. https://wiki.mises.org/wiki/Inflation Inflation is an increase in the volume of the money supply. More money moving around means the purchasing power of a dollar falls. Prices and goods can rise and fall without being related to an increase in the money supply, like how the price of computers tends to fall even though the currency is inflating.

  15. Some links you might find useful: If anyone seriously had a neglectful upbringing there is a community on reddit called RBNLifeSkills about this sort of thing. This is the ultimate resource on how to tie your shoes: http://www.fieggen.com/shoelace/knots.htm Also I and many others have tried your toenail and belly button fluff diet, sometimes supplemented with lentils. We live online here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Frugal_Jerk/ , and would find your conservation of calories to prepare for your diet by being lazy and asking someone else to do the work quite admirable.
  16. My point was that public property tends to be used that way, not private property, not sure what you read or what you're asking. Maybe my post wasn't very clear. All the examples I can think of where I've seen private property used short term in a destructive manner typically came from people who did not work to come into that property, people who get free money will buy things and trash them pretty quickly.
  17. They have those kinds of regulations and force for public property. The issue isn't that it "could never be allowed", it's that force against destructive behaviors wont be enforced as hard because nobody has as much of a vested interest in doing so. And force that supports destructive behaviors will be enforced more because a lot of people have a vested interest in usage of the property that benefits them short term, more so than their interest in preserving the property long-term.
  18. https://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/what-doesnt-kill-us/201111/trauma-and-psychosis http://robertwhitaker.org/robertwhitaker.org/Bipolar%20Illness.html There seems to be a lot of evidence that early childhood conditions are a much more significant factor than genetics in developing bipolar disorder. I would also question the idea that having one or more manic/depressive episodes means you have some 'disease' that is incurable and will require you to be on medications for the rest of your life. I was diagnosed bipolar and have had a couple manic episodes with mild psychosis. I can tell you the medications psychiatrists prescribe for bipolar disorder are horrible, and can have really awful side-effects and withdrawal symptoms. You would do much better, I think, to avoid medications and focus on therapy, diet, exercise, sleep... This thread has some good information, the Paleo and Primal Blueprint type diets I think are very good because refined sugar and grains as well as alcohol, caffeine, other drugs can trigger bipolar-type symptoms. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/dr-pamela-peeke/bipolar-disorder_b_5578079.html http://www.forbes.com/sites/michaelellsberg/2011/07/18/how-i-overcame-bipolar-ii/
  19. No worries about Boeing moving. You see, we still have the workers and the machines. They can easily switch from building planes to building busses for the city, because socialized transportation has worked out so well here..
  20. Would you mind attaching the zip with the note files? I may be able to help with the file attributes but I can't make a windows script for it...
  21. I'm not really sure what you're advocating. How does understanding that 'there is no free will' help fight socialism? If there is no free will then nobodies minds can be changed other than what is already predetermined so if you are fighting socialism based on the belief that free will doesn't exist then you are starting out from a contradiction and I don't see how that can possibly work.
  22. So he starts by showing data from a study that shows, not that the black communitee doesn't suffer moreso from absentee fathers, but that black fathers are slightly more involved with their children and uses this to say the absentee father myth was "debunked". Then someone calls him out on it and he points out that yes, there is significantly more absenteeism among black fathers and spends the rest of the blog post trying to explain how this doesn't matter. *facepalm*
  23. I also find it interesting that in the quote from Rosenberg about how NVC was a bad name he states that he decided to continue to use the term 'Non Violent Communication' because he found it was more effective in communicating and spreading the ideas of NVC. So if NVC makes the claim that if you want to communicate effectively you should use NVC, then choosing a name for NVC which is "violent" and passes a moral judgement because it is more effective directly refutes that claim.
  24. Inflation is an increase in the money supply. Of course, if the supply of currency increases, the value of money relative to productivity/wealth goes down and wages will increase... https://mises.org/library/where-inflation
