  1. What gives you the right to decide and legislate that and play chess with the lives of all the poor business owners who are just scraping along, and now have to go out of business because of you - not to mention all the people who are quite willing to work for $14 that you want to put out of a job and send into the unemployment lines? those are only immediate effects - this is a stupid keynesian argument that just won't die it may be relatively inelastic for large companies but that unfairly privileges them against mom and dad places All the independent cafes shut down, starbucks continues to thrive the additional money that would be spent on wages is not currently going nowhere, that is going in capital investments &c. it is attracted to whatever businesses people project will turn a profit ie. serve their customers that type of spending creates the kind of sustainable job growth that is hard or impossible to measure in the short term, because it does not take the form of a hike or major dip - it is measured in an incremental hardening of the very backbone of the economy
  2. The message is clear: whatever we don't like is capitalism, whatever we do like democracy or socialism is responsible for.
  3. It has been alleged by persons on the left that capitalism is an inherently statist system. That there has never existed any kind of stateless capitalism or "free market" in any real sense, and that therefore 'to contrast the state with "the market" is just silly.' That under capitalism, statism and the market economy are just two facets of the same hierarchical, totalising system of class rule. This is the response I have prepared to these propositions, please feedback - I can actually integrate suggestions into the text because it is open to editions http://reasonspiritandesthetics.blogspot.co.uk/2015/04/capitalism-is-inherently-statist-system.html

  7. I actually kind of agree and thank you for bringing this to my attention as it crossed my mind, family was never really brought into question even though some of the patients were clearly very isolated as children. No digging deep, no recovering from childhood trauma.
  8. According to report from international relationship expert and recording artist, Timbaland: Yes Timbaland had this to add, "I loved you with a fire red, Now it's turning blue."
  9. I like the idea, but unfortunately I think government is inherently flawed and so at best it can only moderate the woes of government. If I was a statist I would be all in.
  10. Your post reminded me to upload this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8DXVyO91Apc it sounds like you have learned to protect yourself from criticism because it was too frequent and too scathing practising the technique I suggest may actually help you be able to handle criticism when it is well intended and identify when it is actually people just trolling or attacking you

  12. you can't measure how many jobs didn't get created or how much money didn't get put into capital investments that created jjobs over the long term

  14. In what way does being ordered around all day and having to do what you are told when you're told make someone socially capable? I have met so many parents who homeschooled who talk about how better adapted their children are better adapted, not susceptible to peer pressure, non competitive/combative nor approval seeking, and very well liked socially Academic Performance The home-educated typically score 15 to 30 percentile points above public-school students on standardized academic achievement tests. (The public school average is the 50th percentile; scores range from 1 to 99.) Homeschool students score above average on achievement tests regardless of their parents’ level of formal education or their family’s household income. Whether homeschool parents were ever certified teachers is not related to their children’s academic achievement. Degree of state control and regulation of homeschooling is not related to academic achievement. Home-educated students typically score above average on the SAT and ACT tests that colleges consider for admissions. Homeschool students are increasingly being actively recruited by colleges Social, Emotional, and Psychological Development The home-educated are doing well, typically above average, on measures of social, emotional, and psychological development. Research measures include peer interaction, self-concept, leadership skills, family cohesion, participation in community service, and self-esteem. Homeschool students are regularly engaged in social and educational activities outside their homes and with people other than their nuclear-family members. They are commonly involved in activities such as field trips, scouting, 4-H, political drives, church ministry, sports teams, and community volunteer work.

  17. Hi I'm Antony Sammeroff. I have been a member of this community and donator for many years, I have interviewed Stef for TheProgressiveParent youtube channel, and put out self-help videos on www.youtube.com/enrichyourlife1 so a lot of you are familiar with me already. I have training in various helping modalities from person-centred counselling (which is client led) to forms of coaching which are very directive this allows me to adapt to the needs of my clients. If I am working with someone very distressed I tend to fulfil the role of a therapist (I have worked with people who have been molested, or are undergoing inner child healing) and then if people have certain areas of their life like relationships or a business they want to improve then I fulfil more the role of a coach. I have found this flexibility to be extraordinarily effective so far (I will put some testimonials from members of the community below.) I am in awe of what I have seen some members of this community achieve with me in a short number of sessions and how quickly the work deepens so I am keen to work with more of you! I recommend for anyone who has not received formal help yet to consider someone as a therapist or a coach, I myself have spent several thousand pounds and hours on personal development on counsellors, coaches, self-help, seminars, retreats, webinars, programmes, and not only has it made me a happier and more fulfilled person (as well as informing my practice) it has made life into a rich, fulfilling and exciting adventure of self-knowledge! Even if you don't book me you would benefit from booking someone! I`m very grateful for how things turned out last night. I absolutely enjoyed the conversation and I felt a very strong connection. It amazing to think about that I have known people for decades, and never even been close to anything like this with them. I also enjoyed going outside, and looking at the stars. It was a great thing to do, which I will certainly remember. Anyway, I would love to talk to you more, and I see it as a great investment. I`ll initiate the payment now, so please let me know when you have received the payment. Also, I will be going on a weekend trip leaving tomorrow so I wont be available for another session until next week. Looking forward to talk to you soon. And, thanks a lot for your help Antony. 18. I don't listen to call ins much any more because I don't have the time any more but I think they are really about connecting with the listeners and being accessible rather than just a talking head. Also callers get a lot out of them. They are also meant to model how a philosophical conversation can be applied to personal issues.
  19. I would just like to add that we need to all be careful about this. If we could not be direct with our caregivers we might have got the habit of using guilt or shame or neediness as a way of influencing people to get what we want sometimes in subtle ways - maybe without even realising we are doing it. We may not do it at first but when we get really close to someone or have been dating them for a long time, our old patterns may come out due to the attachment bond with parents being projected onto them on a subtle biological level. Thanks for the excellent video!
