  1. I highly recommend the "There are No Solutions" Podcast here: http://cdn.freedomainradio.com/FDR_2901_No_Solutions.mp3 To sum it up, analyze the abstinence question with it's costs and benefits. Since there are no moral properties (assuming both parties are willing and not children etc) associated with sex, then what is the cost of abstinence? What are the benefits?
  2. I'd run 3.5 -Characters open at level 7, roll from the PHB only, and there is no limit to your inventory, but keep it to the PHB. Inventories must be approved. (no 10,000 tindertwigs people) All 3.5 books are approved, you may select feats from the other books and prestige, but prestige only after the initial creation. -No evil aligned characters -All players get one "family heirloom" - a magic item either from the books or invented by you! It could be a badass weapon, or armor piece or something creative to give your character more personality or style. All heirlooms must be approved before we begin. For balance of course. -I will work with players who generate a backstory for their characters. Those who do so will recieve rollplaying advantages in the world we play in- all subjective to their backstory. If I collect 3 - 4 players we'll make it happen! Also a little story on my heirloom house rule- one of my favorite heirlooms invented a long time ago by my group was a garden gnome who had glasses. If you took the glasses off the gnome and put them on, you would see what the gnome sees- except that what you saw was mostly very blurry- because he didn't have his glasses. He became pretty strategic.
  3. You can find the pdfs of anything and everything you need online, you just have to take the time to look Same goes for dice, there are little programs you can download that roll for you. I could perhaps put together a package of everything we might need into a Google Drive folder...
  4. Anyone interested in starting up a campaign, pm me and if I get 3-4 people I'll go over my schedule and see if I can throw something compelling together. Thank you everyone for showing interest in FDR gaming!
  5. What system you running? d20? GURPS?
  6. I think if the sessions would be entertaining I'd publish them. That's if I were to run the games anyways... Unless everyone wants to, then of course we'd publish them
  7. Seems cool... I don't know anything about the mises.. Any place I should start?
  8. So are you saying that biology so concretely binds women that they aren't capable of higher philosophical thought? I can't help but feel like your points are putting all women in a box- your absolutism is very strong. I'm not saying you're wrong but can you say with total certainty as Mr. Beal says- that women are by nature exploitive? Better yet I think we should be annoying and lay down some definitions first before we get too abstract here. Are you saying a woman is incapable of having passionate, emotionally intense, and eager-to-please sex when she is secure? I ask this knowing that most women I have met fit the proposition above, I just know a couple who openly are the opposite, and attest to so. (yay anecdotes)
  9. Indeed. Dark Souls world? Like the world has been given up to monsters or? The idea I had would be to run an open world with a hook, then run at least 2 overshadowing threats that could crop up in the future and the PC's would have to decide which to deal with first or at all. Like an aggressive nation beginning a campaign of conquest on the otherside of the world, and rumors of a cult aiming to do something nefarious. If I were to run a game, I'd probably open at level 7 to keep the strength of the group high.
  10. WFRP!!! My brothers and I had run a dark heresy game last year that was badass, hurray another warhammer fan! Yes, I'd be happy to run a game, however I only prefer to run no more than 3 PC's. I find more than that it gets a little cumbersome.
  11. Oh my goodness, the responses lol I think we'd take volunteers for DM, I could for 3.5, I have about 6 years experience in the dungeon master's chair. Holy shiznips this could be a thing lol, does anyone else have DM experience? I've never played 5 but it seems easy... Also, creating Molyneux as a deity would be hilarious. Clerics and Paladins of Molyneux... has a nice ring to it
  12. Is there any interest out there at all forum in an FDR Dungeons and Dragons Group? Playing a couple times a month over Google+ or skype, perhaps a full party of anarchists in a feudal world? Awesome roleplaying with equally intelligent and like minded people? 3.5? 5? Seems like a good idea, just seeing if there is interest out there
  13. Both are correct!
  14. Lol whaaattttt That's it? I'm asking for an honest diagnosis from an honest position, for clarification on your position against mine (which I am perfectly willing to succede my position by the way), and you won't even attempt??? Either this stuff you're talking about is soooooo rocket science degree advanced that there's no point in trying to talk to the laypeople, or... you've got nothing. Bummer man, I was ready to answer some questions or something Maybe some examples? Something, anything.
  15. I have not, most of my knowledge of women comes from the 4325345 hours I've spent listening to Molyneux's call-in shows. To your point though in your second post- you are correct. I applied your generalization about women to my relationship with her, and in what I thought to be a playful banter-y tone, asked for your opinion on our relationship, as I did not see how it fit into your categories. So to quote Mr. Beal: I'm here to learn. Also, while I'm not familiar with Tomassi's blog (which I'm sure is great, links perhaps if it's worth exploring?), I am familiar with my old lady. If her sexuality fit your categories I likely would have affirmed your position.
  16. *breathes in sharply through teeth* I think there is a third category you're missing there sir. Some women actually have sex as a means of expressing their feelings for their partner, and accepting her partner's feelings- in a union that is both selfless, and selfish. Love making, I think it may be called. Ideally the love-making category is ideal for marriages but yeah. My girlfriend's sexual behaviour is solely lovemaking. She will not participate if her heart is not behind it, and even is she is doing something as a reward- it is backed by her feelings and explicit intentions. (ex: "you had a long day, and you were sweet for buying me tampons today" -censored activites- ) We have fun and our relationship in this matter does not fall into your binary categories. Thoughts?
  17. I think it's as simple as the biology inside humans reacting to stimuli- combined with concepts held by the individual that create sexual prefrences. If it helps- I have met some dude-bros, and dudes who called women sluts irl. For a little bit I drove for Uber, during which I met a score of folks, but most of them were men and women going out to apply their sexuality. I still vividly remember picking up a squad of pasty dude-bros, who were getting drunk and I'm sure were coked up. They were talking to each other about who they were going to sleep with that night, and all the women- about 5 or 6 of them- that they were talking about they knew personally and by name. They all slept around with the same girls, and one guy (who was the most alpha of them all) was bragging about how he had an all-in threesome with some of the girls- that involved drugs as well. He reccommended Cialis by the way for maximum performance. So they were pretty accomplished dude-bros. Like, freshmen or sophomores in college. The physical stuff I just described however wasn't the worst part for me. The worst part- was how they talked about these women. They called them sluts, and would get real excited about particular sluts- because they were more slutty than the others. Or, they would trash talk other girls, because they didn't know how to give good head, or hated anal and the like. I've never seen blatant hedonism revealed like this before, and I've never experienced anything like it before or since.
  18. The media is so effective it's scary. Step 1) Get the activist that's been causing trouble on board with the news station, and with the police department. Step 2) Introduce the story- give the appearance that you are being fair and objective with the promise of conclusion inherent to the story you are reporting. Step 3) Invoke empathy for the 'regular untrained and ignorant joes' going through the program. Step 4) Intimidate the activist using the program. Step 5) Conclude with the activist switching teams, drawing the same conclusions as the viewer about how they would act in his position. This story of course has nothing to do at-all with the rampant police brutality, yet they are able to expertly paint with the broadest brush imaginable without you even knowing.
  19. Allow me to add some somethings to your position on entertainment, I think that interest in film based entertainment begins largely with empathy. If the audience doesn't connect with the characters (or even settings or locations, and oh! oh! violence in general) then the film has lost their consumers. Without memorable characters, then the conflicts as you accurately described above become too abstract and will fail as art. If you understand where the protagonists and antagonists are coming from, then you have already experinced empathy for the characters- and if the piece was put together well, you will probably be very invested in the story and will wonder how it will all resolve. Much like humor, stories have the challenge of surprising the mind by coming up with original ideas or pleasant arrangements of already existing themes, settings, character tropes etc to entertain the viewer. Otherwise it's just plain boring. This is one reason why I love foreign entertainment, and specifically anime, since animes tend to go balls-deep into crazy ideas, settings, and fantastical concepts that you'd never see in the west, and would never work in any other media form. Not to mention the characters tend to be deeper than western characters, and because of the animation style- are easier to empathize with. In the free society we are all aiming to build for our children, I think film will be similar to what we have- only better. Way better. They won't be bogged down with crazy propoganda. Actors will have to actually act, because empathy will be widespread and people will have higher emotional intelligence. Writers will actually have to write good scripts because most people won't be sociopaths, and you need more than rank pornographic violence to keep your audience in the theatre.
  20. Sounds deterministic to me. If he really thinks that all humans fight tooth and nail for resources... he doesn't get out much does he?
  21. Dsayers my good man, thanks for that! And I have found that with one exception people respond better to hearing this stuff, while doing something else at the same time. For example: when I first tried to introduce the fiancé to the podcasts, she resisted. She just didn't like sitting still and listening to people talking. Granted, she had never really done anything like that before, she never listened to books on tape, never listened to the radio etc. However, we've listened to a few call-in shows all the way through from time to time, and even listened to some back to back in a row- in a row! We listen to Stef while we do chores around the apartment, even stopping and talking about the topics or Stef and so on before diving back in and listening again. And this was just politely asking if she'd like to listen to some podcasts with me while we bust through chores. I've already seen her start to incorporate what she's heard and learned and clearly thought about in her opinions of people we know and about tv shows and stuff, and especially between the two of us. It's unreal and totally fucking awesome lol
  22. Oh absolutely, it's gotta be a little gentle at first. Bomb in the brain would be good, but honestly think that that presentation would be better if we watched it for the visual graphs and such. I was thinking that call in shows, simply because Stef does a good job of cutting through what isn't real, and it's both startling and wonderful. Do you have any favorites wuzzums?
  23. My buddy and I whom I've mentioned in a previous post (a statist and aspiring to be a cop, but is starting to jive with my points on libertarianism and voluntarism), are now playing borderlands regularly every week AND is interested in listening to one of my podcasts while we play! Now I've already got a couple ideas for introducing him to Stef and philosophy, the "Terrified of Morgan Freeman" podcast is one of my favorites but I want to gather a couple more options for what we listen to while we play. Help me gather some options for showing him the power of philosophy and reason! Context: my fiancé and I have asked his girlfriend (we and them are getting pretty close) deep questions about her personal life and her awful dysfunctional living situation that made her uncomfortable- after of course she opened up to us about it. They had never heard before the concepts of reason, truth, rational self-interest and holding parents accountable for the shit they do to their children. Since that one uncomfortable talk, literally the next day she wanted to come over with her man and talk more about her feelings! Which was awesome because we short circuited them I think by not laughing at the trauma and reminding them that what was happening to her was heinous, and that it isn't funny, and that the reason why we aren't changing the subject or going along with their attempts to derail the conversation is because we care about her. I don't think she's ever had anyone in her life that wanted to talk about those 'hard, heavy, deep' conversations. Since he's starting to see philosophy help someone close to him (we will play after we have that conversation and hang out over the weekend) he's more curious about it now than before it being something we occasionally talk about from time to time. Anyone have any ideas for podcasts that can help pull my buddy out of the matrix into the rtr world of philosophy? I'm thinking have more of a lean towards relationships should come first, and then if he likes the podcasts start bringing in the anarchism into the podcasts
