  1. Thank you Kevin for donating your time writing this script, I appreciate it. Do you know anyone on the boards, here, who knows java and might help out?
  2. I would almost say that you have it backwards and that feedback is targeted at the character of the individual and that criticism is targeted at the behavior. Criticism is more about using good judgment, whilst one doesn't necessarily have to have good judgement to offer feedback to you, as it is their opinion. I think it is important to find the definitions of the words of criticism and feedback before advancing as well as look at some of Stefan has offered on the two subjects as I believe his reasoning to be valid and helpful. I recommend this as well. I even created a little snippit of this podcast that I listen to every now and then to remind me, you can download it here: http://s000.tinyupload.com/download.php?file_id=85466905239370285364&t=8546690523937028536414626 He has metaphorical locks that a person must pick to have access to the control room in his head. I think it's important to memorize the barriers he gives to accept criticism, and ingrain them into your mind: 1.Does the person show empathy by asking questions of me before offering criticism? 2.Does the person know what it is that I am trying to do, right now, or in life in general; does the person know my goals? 3.Does the person agree with my goals? 4.Does the person have a methodology for achieving these goals? 5.Does the person have actual, practical, tangible experience in the achievement of these goals? In regards to Criticism, besides that podcast, I would recommend listening to "Inner Critic: The Role Play" (FDR 1149). I know I'm just linking things, but I think they are helpful and go into a lot of depth. ______________________________________________________________ Feedback I recommend you listen to FDR 1254 "Courage". It is much about confronting relationships in your life and is quite emotionally intense, but he talks about the courage to ask for feedback in relationships and includes a great list of questions you can ask for feedback. I've also created a snippit of those questions within that podcast as a small audio file you can download here: http://s000.tinyupload.com/download.php?file_id=02926681067563272629&t=0292668106756327262904731 ______________________________________________________________ I agree, feedback is more about being on level with the person you are speaking with, open and honest. People will deliver their contempt for you in a "benevolent" package they call "criticism", but that's a lie and not true criticism. In the end, criticism is for your benefit and should leave you better than before you received it. Otherwise, you've probably interacted with a verbal abuser or ignoramus. To add more: Feedback is more about being on level with the person you are speaking with... and criticism usually means that one person has more knowledge or experience and so is on a different level than you. I think that feedback is more mutual, and criticism is more one-way.
  3. Unfortunately I would need to first edit the contents of the notes, as many include personal anecdotes and info. I wish I hadn't so it could be something I could delegate to others. Did you have an idea that would streamline the process, or were you going to do the labor of individual editing? I have a program called TXTcollector that merges text files together. I have used it to merge the FDR time-stamped text files together which I then save as a .doc to find/replace some of the unnecessary header information throughout the document above each note. The find function is very helpful in this manner to locate noted quotes and words/topics that repeat. But I don't know of a method to arrange/organize the notes within the document by the DateCreated or DateUpdated attributes appended above each note as a header within the document. Thanks for the suggestion. I will look into this service. Have you used it personally as either a worker or requester? I did see that while browsing for a solution. So I've downloaded it. It doesn't modify Date Created or Date Modified fields in a file, which is what I need done. But I like to explore different organizational software and am sure it will be useful for future picture editing and other things, so thanks.
  4. I don't know what kind of coding this requires, but The value of this being done I have taken around 150 detailed time-stamped notes (including 400 personal notes) of the newest (and older) FDR podcasts that I had hoped and still desire to use to share in some way with others on FDR and the world. A lot of epic quotes and dialogues that I really treasure. Problem I have taken these notes with a Windows Phone 8.1 application called "Note it". My issue is that the notes, after having been synced and downloaded from LiveDrive, lose the File Name, Date Modified and Date Created file information available and visible in the application itself. After downloading the zipped cloud file, the notes as individual text files show up in a folder all with nondescript variations of: Note 8D278EB20637D60. All is not lost Thankfully however, to each text file (note) in some header lines of text, is appended the original file information of "DateCreated", and "DateUpdated" (modified). (*see attached text file as example of how it is formatted) Needed _I need to replace each of these files' non-synced Created and Modified file attributes with the "DateCreated" and "DateUpdated" (modified) attributes (which includes the hour timestamp) contained within the header of each note/text file._ I would like to, if possible, also change the file names to the first 3 words or first 20 characters in the 5th line of text (the note body), but I know that in some of the spaces here in some of the text files there are characters that are not able to be included in file names. My system is a Windows 7 64 bit My productivity vs Yours or someone else's I've manually edited some and have calculated needing 30 hours to manually edit the information in all of these notes isn't really comparable to the over 400 hours I have spent writing them, but it's so tedious for me that I want to avoid this at all costs. Bigger picture This is an application that is used by over 1500 people, of whom I'm sure many have the same issue. Can you think of a script for my problem? If you have a solution or could recommend other people/website forums that help with this renaming file information sort of thing, it would really help me out a lot, thank you. PS Do you know of a better method/phone app to take notes like this? Note 8D278EB20637D60.txt
  5. What did you have in mind when you said "immediate future"? What I mean is, did you specify a length of time or a pre-condition for communications to continue?
  6. Right. Successful just means having achieved the desired aim or goal you have. But it can mean "rich", or "wealthy". "success full." What I wanted to emphasize with this was my equivocation (to hint towards a misunderstanding) of what it means to be successful, that is: saving, producing, investing RATHER THAN consuming and spending. In the joke, then, a tangible fortune is thus equivalent to something like a "fortune" cookie. And eating enough cookies consistently, through positive reward conditioning via its opiate production, strengthens -if not reifies- the fantasy that consequentialist thinking literally conforms to reality and has stability and security value, and thus it becomes a necessary mode of thinking because deferred gratification becomes nearly impossible due to tiny opiate centers. The same opiates are produced naturally through successful deferred gratification. An action is the associated reward with deferred gratification, while an object is the associated reward with instant gratification. The longer the time stretches out before you and the further you think ahead, while programmed with instant gratification and conditioned consequentialist thinking, the quicker to anxiety you become and fear insecurity and instability. You've replaced the opiate production center through opiate consumption. Thus a fortune cookie, like anything else instantly gratifying, is not really a fortune, but four-chin mutating and debilitating like anything in excess. Consequentialist thinking (satisfying whatever means to achieve the end goal) actually ironically ends up reducing the various real means available at hand to get to your sacred end because you're like an addict grabbing at anything, and a lot of the things you try won't get you that high-of-an-end, crippling you if that's your main mode of thinking. So the play on words in "successful" and "success full", was just a basic equivocation of consumption and production that I thought would parallel the first and tie the meaning together, but the additional line was just confusing. I didn't create a comprehensible transition between them, but if you append this to the pun, I guarantee you'll get laughs.... ...(10 days later)... sorry if this post was too long, I got really into it.
  7. "Comfortably Numb" Hello, Is there anybody in there? Just nod if you can hear me. Is there anyone at home? Come on now I hear you're feeling down Well, I can ease your pain And get you on your feet again Relax I'll need some information first Just the basic facts Can you show me where it hurts? There is no pain, you are receding A distant ship smoke on the horizon You are only coming through in waves Your lips move but I can't hear what you're saying When I was a child I had a fever My hands felt just like two balloons Now I've got that feeling once again I can't explain, you would not understand This is not how I am I have become comfortably numb I have become comfortably numb O.K. Just a little pin prick There'll be no more aaaaaaaah! But you may feel a little sick Can you stand up? I do believe it's working, good That'll keep you going through the show Come on, it's time to go. There is no pain you are receding A distant ship smoke on the horizon You are only coming through in waves Your lips move but I can't hear what you're saying When I was a child I caught a fleeting glimpse Out of the corner of my eye I turned to look but it was gone I cannot put my finger on it now The child is grown The dream is gone I have become comfortably numb.
  8. Welfare. They fair well with welfare. Fairly well. Fair well : A well at a fair. Like the money well of cheap games at the fair. (They call them "fair games"...) Farewell... Money goes down the drain of instant gratification. Sewer grate-ification. The sewers are polluted with green sludge of toxic moneys. The mutants are those on welfare. (referring to futurama episode). Does that help?
  9. I enjoyed it, but of course, the scenes cut too quickly from one emotional scene to the next and weren't too deep. I loved the visual metaphors for the islands breaking down. But not to spoil it, I'll say go see it, worth the money for the level of animation and the great plot. Interestingly reminds me of inception in parts =D
  10. Meant to say: The rich are successful, and the poor are success full.
  11. How is it that people with fortunes seem to get lucky, but I have four chins and I can't?!? The rich are successful, but the poor are success full too!!
  12. Much of what you describe with your second thought. I want a thumbnail and then descriptions of the items. I was thinking of a blog sort of thing, but I wondered what people did for this. If you had suggestions of a place to host all my posts together, I'd appreciate the advice. Thanks for replying
  13. I want to put all of my Craigslist posts that are currently active in one place so that people can look in check them all out. Has anyone done this before? How? Thanks for your help
  14. In a show I heard Stefan enjoyed this TV series, so I rented the series. It's brilliantly funny. There's self-knowledge and good character development and plot development. I recommend it to everyone here. It's probably the funniest TV series I've ever watched.

  15. That is interesting. I ask the question because I am curious about his statement that alpha females give birth more frequently to sons than daughters. So, if this is the case, then couldn't you find virtue (or if not virtue, then the condensed principles of the surrounding, larger, tribe) by finding families with more sons?
  16. It was probably just 5 months ago I, myself, really began to write out my desires and interests, ideas that came to mind. I dont have much of an organization to these ideas, but im gaining experience setting my interests above the conveniences of others and my own habits of dissociative comfort. For me it's really helpful and inspiring. I'm glad you're becoming more open in expressing all of your energy. =) Rainbow, sorry, my big fat thumb downvoted your post when I tried going for green . Sorry!
  17. In "Incomprehensible Bravery" (FDR 2993), Stef mentions"Alpha females" (2:20:00). What is an alpha female and what are their traits? My initial thought is of a hyper-masculine and aggressive woman, but I think this isn't what Stef was necessarily talking about.
  18. Think I found a possibility in an article about TRITRICHOMONAS FOETUS that I found on these forums.
  19. Art of Charm Podcast 388 (Gretchen Rubin, on Habits) 31 minutes, 30 seconds - 32 minutes, 54 seconds ----Her explanation of this speed effect. I recommend the whole podcast
  20. Have you written down what you were doing and what you were thinking? this is helpful to understand the why of your experience, so you can experience it again! Ha, I like that =)
  21. This is rather off-subject, but I was wondering if someone experienced with cat husbandry had a recommendation for an online forums for cat health that they recommend? And, also, if anybody has had a good vet for their pets (cats), any tips on how you found a good one? Thanks a lot.
  22. These are just my thoughts. Idk, but to me it seems like Stefan totally set you up to fail. All of those dismissive waves of the hand, that's passive aggressive. Then when you ask him to validate your work, then and only then, after letting you fail, he blows up and rages at you. And all those little fire ants biting you represent his suppressed rage released. Idk if Stefan really represents Stefan irl to you or not, maybe it's some other situation or person who is using you like this. You're supposed to water soil before planting to avoid the earth from sucking away all the moisture in the plant. Maybe you represent the plant. Maybe since Stefan's there it represents a fundamental aspect about yourself. I've had dreams with Stefan too. I was in his home in a small book closet with a desk with books everywhere. Still don't get it. I'd examine your recent choices and relationships. And people who are passive aggressive. imo Maybe you need more water. Are you dehydrated? CAD machines.. CAD also stands for Computer-Aided Design
  23. "...seem to choose subconsciously living out their short lives happily and ignorantly..." - they aren't subconsciously happy, they are consciously happy, and subconsciously miserable "..how can I justify striving to maintain their existence? " - Well, god, I thought your story went that their existence was their mess and was under their control after you snapped them into existence? If that's not the case, just snap them out. "...it goes against the very philosophy of survival of the fittest that produced them in the first place." -Fitness isn't genetic. ". I feel justified seeing these "humans" get run over by the train and profiting from it." -Well, god, you may as well. It's your game. I always wondered what, sort of, "justice" would mean to a universal entity since usually the term is used when negotiating costs and benefits between two ppl, but that doesn't really apply, paradigmatically speaking, to you with your privileged position as omightycreato transcendent goop entity-man. "And though I do feel justified, some part of me wonders why these people have turned out this way. Was it that no one taught them that trains are dangerous, when someone should have? Is it my responsibility to teach someone about trains, if they never were? And if I do take time out of my life to do so, and I am ignored and shunned for it, is it ethical to profit from a person's stupidity?" - To not answer any of your questions, I can tell you why you "feel" justified. It's because you ask these questions of should-I's and jump to ethical consequences while AT THE SAME TIME trying to figure out WHY they are like that in the first place. The way you're talking here seems as though you're just short of admitting responsibility for 7,000,000,000 people's bad behavior. -If you don't like that you are responsible for me cutting myself, then stop using language to delude yourself that you have god-like powers. But until then, I'm going to blame all of what I do to myself on you. Thanks for the sanction ... "I "cooperate" with statists in reducing your liberties, because I find it very profitable" -You cannot make your entire tax pen aware of your "help" so you will always be uncertain and corrupt until each and every one of them know your virtuous goal. Otherwise its stealing. A lot of people aren't smart enough to cheat the cheaters, but ignorant of the knowledge, understanding, and wisdom of the whole situation (duh-take for instance all children). They still have the potential to change, and you're limiting their potential. This event that you are describing, it's not going to be a train crash, its going to be drawn out real slow. If it were something that was going to happen quickly, it would be easier to see your immorality. -You're the one standing in the train tracks as the barrier to their demise. They aren't on the tracks, but on the train - blind passengers. Now I understand why you see yourself as a god. ".. my philosophical conflict of interest, making money off the stupidity of the masses and being disturbed by the loss of liberties..." - why would anyone give a rats ass about you and YOUR "disturbed"ness? You're taking MY money, and everybody else's money who you are talking to in this post! "people on average are rarely virtuous and moral, and I rarely see a reason to treat the average person morally, or even as human. I am largely here to see if there is a reason to justify not being a money hoarding statist. I can't find any. -That's a very profound statement. If you find virtue in yourself, children, and your wife, those 3 reasons should logically be more than enough, and give you enough hope to contradict your displayed nihilism. "The struggle comes when I consider, that this is not necessarily virtuous or philosophical, but I cannot justify being either, when people are so generally stupid." -The only stupidity in the people around you, that I witness on the thread here at least, is that no body is telling you that you are an asshole for stealing from them. If you're American, you are stealing from me. Jackass. Philosophy is about the love of wisdom, not using it against people.
  24. Well, i think it would be helpful to look at an example of a conversation you have had recently that you have had? Who have you talked to when this occurs and what do you talk about? You may be wrong or right.. What is the content of what you want to say or find yourself saying when you talk?
