@a4e I see you are a silver donator so you have access to: Conspiracy Theorists - premium podcastOut of interest have you listened to it? If you haven't it might be quite interesting. -
I learnt to drive earlier this year before I started therapy, I suffered terribly with anxiety (its still something I am working on but I have made significant progress) Lets see if there are any similarities between what I felt and what you are feeling. Ok so you have explained how your instructor behaves which doesn't sound ideal but how do you behave? After you have made one mistake do you find the whole lesson going down hill (as in you make allot more mistakes). After a driving lesson do you find yourself going over mistakes in your head multiple times, if so is this helpful or are you punishing yourself? Think how this could be related to your childhood if it is the case. Things that helped me: One thing that helped me relax (and drive/learn to drive better) was my instructor talking to me, about anything really, I like to surf so he would ask me questions about that, tell me what he been up to today, that sort of thing. This sounds like it would be more information overload but it was quite the opposite allot of the driving process is almost subconscious like the little steering adjustments you make when keeping the car going straight your not consciously thinking for each of those (tha'ts not to say your not concentrating). Another thing that helped me was being honest with my instructor if something was worrying me/making me feel anxious I would tell him. If your instructor is making you feel jump by doing certain things just tell him/her and reason it out together. If a certain aspect of driving worries you or you worry about stalling or crashing tell your instructor, it will help him/her be sensitive to your worries. I started with 2 hour lessons but later the instructor decided to move me to 1 hour lessons as my concentration would dip and I would start making mistakes and beating myself up about it. Not all instructors care that much and are willing to suggest changes that don't benefit them so if you think it will help you, you might have to push for it. Lastly remind yourself why you are learning to drive, your doing this for you, turn it into a positive thing don't dread each lesson. The best of luck.

I love this! When it says strength in the arms of someone else I think of myself and think that these arms of someone else are my own.

Might be useful to examine your early experiences with money for example pocket money and presents not necessarily how much you were given but what you were told at the time how you felt about it ect. Do you have the same anxiety spending money online?

A way to crowdfund a project anonymously?
surfingthoughts replied to heymanslow's topic in Promoting Freedomain
Your welcome and your idea of donating it to FDR if you don't reach a milestone is a really good one it could even be proved using http://blockchain.info/ . It might also be worth looking into creating a facebook page for it so people can follow progress and perhaps share it with friends of theirs who are FDR listeners that aren't active on the forums. If you use my idea or not go for it dude and good luck to you! - I just googled "crowd funding bit coin" and there are alternatives to the site you gave in your first post might be worth looking into. Coinfunder.com/ looks quite good but like all these sites they charge a %. -
A way to crowdfund a project anonymously?
surfingthoughts replied to heymanslow's topic in Promoting Freedomain
I guess all you would need is a bitcoin address and place to advertise it, once you have the bitcoin the way to turn that into $ or whatever fiat currency you desire would be to buy something with the bit coins that holds its value and is easily resalable and sell it for $ a GPU might be a good thing to consider or precious metals (or you could just buy something you need and not have to worry about the resale thing). localbitcoins.com might be worth looking into for changing bit coin to cash anonymously but I haven't used them so can't vouch for them. Unless you are hoping to get people to pay for it from outside this community why don't you just do it here. You could make a thread on this forum with a bitcoin address, people could then use http://blockchain.info/ and search your address to see how much has gone in / out of the address. I would suggest have the target amount and all the details in the first post of the thread and update that first post each day to show progress. In terms of trust as this is all anonymous I would advise setting milestones that once a certain amount of bit coin is reached you will begin translating x% of the video and show that this is done maybe 1 week after the milestone is reached. Hope this helps . -
Social problem [depress only in certain time]
surfingthoughts replied to efioptv's topic in Self Knowledge
Are you seeing a therapist? I would not call you racist it is presumably easier for you to speak in your mother language and thus less stressful I also think it is likely you will be making excuses to yourself to justify not trying to talk to someone because of the anxiety you feel. There will be a reason for the anxiety it would be helpful to you to get to the route of that. Small steps to begin with might also help such as simply walking up to a group of people and asking the time (during the end of lunch time perhaps) be very aware of how you are feeling remind yourself that you are safe. This is presuming it is anxiety I think this because you give the impression you want to meet other people and yet you are stopping yourself. -
Thanks to the creator of this topic (he had the song below on his profile) I listen to suicide sheeep playlist - http://youtu.be/WNDtb9ecWEs?list=PLorG9VRQ_c6U9oR_tf-f7omjv-5MlrZpO This was the song (that was on Robert Rak profile) that got me listening to this style of music it really sung true to me: So cheers Robert for unintentionally showing me this music I really enjoy it and listen to it regularly helps me relax . Especially this one: http://youtu.be/u7F_DYRSzy4 Its perhaps not true to what the artists was trying to get a across but the whole "don't you worry about it, give yourself some rest, let me worry about it" helps me as I have a tendency to worry about things too much (even things that are very unlikely to happen) it's something I am working on with my therapist.

Thoughts on International Baccalaureate (IB) Program?
surfingthoughts replied to Roem's topic in Education
The measurement of intelligence and knowledge will always be needed, it is possible for employers to do it all in house but it would be expensive considering they would have no academic bar to set before people could take their test, I guess online tests might be a cost effective solution to that. Something like the IB could be used to help employers filter through job applications (and help applicants decide what to go for) in terms of the tests / requirements but the process of going to a school for a set number of hours is for lack of a better term old school. I'm not saying schools wouldn't exist for pupils the age of 13-16 but I would imagine they would operate very differently and due to true competition be far more productive. Would be interesting to hear what other members think about schools for that age group, would they exists (through demand) in your opinion? -
Thoughts on International Baccalaureate (IB) Program?
surfingthoughts replied to Roem's topic in Education
Hello, welcome to the forums! I did the IB unfortunately I was in the second year that it was introduced to my school so it was very "new" and mistakes were made by the school. Compared to university yes you do an extended essay and presentations and that helps but I was amazed when I went to uni how much of it was self learning/teaching (I did a business degree though ) in stark contrast to when I was studying IB I was practically baby sat. Compared to the English equivalent A level IB is a hell of allot harder and a big step up from the British state exams called GCSE's. I found the IB very hard largely to do with my mind set at the time I would avoid doing things until the last minute which put me under allot of pressure which resulted in bad coping techniques, thankfully I found FDR and a good therapist. IB is good in the sense that it gives you a good round base / foundation that you could put many types of higher education on top of but it is worth noting it is rarely designed/tailored for the higher education on top of it (might be a bit of a sketchy metaphor but it was the best I could come up with). For example you have to study a foreign language this wont be useful to everyone so it could be a bit of a waste? I think the IB is good as a stepping stone to university but not really focused enough for going straight to the job market unless your wanting to start at the bottom. The scoring system is good in my view much better than ABC crap the total points idea is sensible. I like you also appreciated TOK but I sure do wish it got anywhere near as deep as FDR. Regarding FDR opinion on education I believe I would be right in saying that early years to be home schooled and later years to be in private education / university if it will be genuinely beneficial to your job prospects rather than working your way up. Basically state education = ... <- correct me if I am wrong. -
I'm right with you its interesting and I am looking forward to your article. The a reason why it's not flourishing yet / it will take time in the insurance sector is the state and its laws. My dad owns a insurance brokers and the amount of regulation and rules regarding the subject is ridiculous. I would be surprised if this type of /alternative to insurance gets government approval and that is a problem when in England for example any business that has an employee must have a government approved employers' liability insurance. That is just one of many example of the state requiring state approved insurance by law <- if you have to have this type of insurance why look to an alternative that wont meet the requirements of the state, you would have to get both which wouldn't make sense.

I think the role of someone who wants to listen to you yet you are not emotionally connected to is and would be useful for dealing with the aftermath of emotions relating to accidents that happen. Not necessarily needed but perhaps wanted. Even if society was perfect and I mean perfect (everyone was born into a family that acted as a perfect family) and this happened for a long period of time say 5 generations I think a weakness would come about were we would forget how to deal with people who are not "perfect" and that would be fine - but with over 7 billion people the likely hood of one of them having an accident that changes the physical make up of he brain which can affect personality which could lead to destructive behavior is quite likely (in my opinion) - therapists and psychologists would have a role to play with the people and especially children that person comes into contact with. Strokes can affect personality but more major examples are just a google search away check this one out - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phineas_Gage

I just watched the video and was going to post about it - Not that I am excusing the father for having the child with this woman / leaving the child with this woman I wonder if the genders were reversed if she would also be charged like he was, I think not.

Hello - and "Help!" - from Chandler AZ
surfingthoughts replied to Mason Brewer's topic in Introduce Yourself!
He is right, he is not the only one. Also Mason can I ask are you seeing a therapist on a regular basis? -
Sam I am sorry to hear what has happened to you I really am, no one deserves to go through what you have been through. When reading your post I was really hoping that you would seek therapy and I am glad you are, it shows you have allot of strength. Until therapy starts I suggest continuing with journaling but instead of trying to explore the past even further write about and explore your emotions to what you have already found before digging deeper. Write about your day what happened that was good what happened that was bad how did you feel about x how did you feel about z, how did you deal with x why did you deal with it in that way. Ask your partner for feedback in communications with her as long as the conversation isn't always one way and you don't forget her needs for voicing what is important to her a couple of weeks shouldn't be an overburden in my view if she cares about you. It will be hard and I know right now your thinking what do I do until therapy starts but please don't expect it to be a quick fix, it is a long journey. This is coming from someone who has just started therapy and is already feeling the benefits but knows there is a long road ahead. Know that you are on the right path and good luck to you and keep us up to date.

Global Economic Reset
surfingthoughts replied to TheRobin's topic in Libertarianism, Anarchism and Economics
If this rat run of unsustainable debt fueled growth is to continue I can't see any country winning in the long term until all countries stop relying on debt to fuel their growth and rely on organic growth. Organic growth countries can't compete with debt fueled countries as they can't keep their citizens with the few public services affordable by organic growth without dramatically increasing tax. There will always be governments willing to take on debt to make their country look more appealing in the short run without a single thought to the long term plan. The question is what happens when the USA can't afford to pay back it's interest repayments I can't see a bail out happening who could afford it and would be willing to pay it? I cant see the people who are owed allowing the USA to go bankrupt and default on its debts. I would love for people to loose faith in fiat currency's or any government controlled currencies for that matter at this point but I fear this mad system will be propped up by a war of such scale I fear to imagine. Please tell me if I am missing something as this is looking quite bleak will enough people wake up and spot these problems before it is too late? And how would they do anything about it? -
Jews hate my app because of the word "Nazi" in the title
surfingthoughts replied to Tony's topic in Miscellaneous
I think the title of this post might be a bit misleading a Jew or even some Jews hated the title might be more accurate. I don't see the problem in the title from an ethical standing point but from a marketing point of view (I studied it at University) compare the value of having your current title compared to one that couldn't be taken the wrong way. Putting it in the simplest terms which will get you more users (I would argue that your current name is quite strong), way that up with the opportunity cost of renaming the game and I would be surprised if you came to the conclusion that it was worth your time changing the name. Do you have any alternate names in mind? Let us know what you decide to do when you have thought it through. edit: I am presuming your target market is kids and parents? Some parents may not like the use of that word but I would bet more parents would describe themselves as a grammar nazi then not download an app because of the phrase grammar nazi. <- this is opinion based would need to do market research to be sure. -
Alpha and Beta....Females?
surfingthoughts replied to hannahbanana's topic in Men's Issues, Feminism and Gender
Yes it was that experiment. I think your perspective is perhaps right when looking at it from a male point of view looking at females. I was thinking of females being beta or alpha within their friend groups of the same sex they may not use physical violence but they sure can use verbal aggression. Within female groups there almost a herd mentality if you go against the group they go against you, the dynamic is perhaps not as clear cut as alpha and beta. As for beauty if enough females feel threatened by another girls beauty the herd will turn on them. This might come across as patronizing to women but I am talking more about school yard mentality that one would hope would be shaken off by the time a young lady become an adult. -
Alpha and Beta....Females?
surfingthoughts replied to hannahbanana's topic in Men's Issues, Feminism and Gender
I can understand why your skeptical but I view it as a spectrum with alpha aka dominant at one end and beta aka submissive at the other end. With these spectrum's it's usually a bell curve with the majority being around the middle, would be interesting to see a study to show if the alpha beta / dominant submissive spectrum. I know there was this one study (that I can't remember the name of) where a group of men were put into 2 groups and 1 had the role of prisoners (submissive) and the other prison guards (dominant). They weren't given any rules and long story short they had to stop the experiment as the prison guards got too hard handed with prisoners which indicates when someone has the impression they are alpha or beta they assume the extreme end of the spectrum. I must admit when talking about beta and alpha I always thought of males but I can see how it can be applied to both genders it's logical really, just something that I hadn't considered. -

That video was interesting. My question: What will people do with this free time? My answer: 1 - People will increase consumption of media thus the demand for media will increase dramatically. This can not be automated when talking about fiction/novels, tv, games or anything programmed for that matter. Yes computers can make music but they can't make songs with meaningful lyrics people will demand the human touch so to speak. Yes computer might be able to write an news snip it on stats but how will they be able to do creative writing such as fiction. 2 - There will still be a thirst for knowledge that automation cannot solve it may be able to make calculations faster but it needs to be told what and when to do such calculations. 3 - People when they go out will require or at least will be willing to pay for the human touch in allot of jobs such as when going to a restaurant I want to be greeted and looked after by a human that can connect with me on an emotional level. This is the kind of thing we already are wiling to pay extra for think of tips... 4 - People will need to be able to afford all the things above to be able to do this they must either spend value or earn value to spend. I am sure I have missed some things "people will do" that will require jobs and for those jobs to be payed for. My conclusion: People will work less, people will still have to work as technology advances. If it is possible for us to reach the stage where computers can program themselves then perhaps we could consider something zeitgeist esk. As far as I know there is no evidence that this is even possible never mind achievable within my lifetime (I am in my 20's...). This is what I am watching now thanks to this topic. @Goldenice I see you are a silver detonator that means you have access to the podcast entitled "Conspiracy Theorists" it is 4th in the most watched or at least for Bronze it is. I think it would be beneficial for you to watch this. @St434u I see you are still spending time on this issue (9/11 theories) in reflection can I ask you the reasonable questions; has that been time well spent? What have you achieved? What are you hoping to achieve? Could you use your time more productively?
