If the economy has been terrible for the recent past, people will be afraid to take economic risk. Simply cutting taxes will not fool business owners about the nature of the economy, thus, they save rather than risk. An increase in number of jobs does not equal economic growth. Let me extrapolate a bit. >When the government spends tax money to create jobs (either directly through public works, or through subsidies) it, >ostensibly, increases the number of people employed. Unemployment drops. Sound good? >Not quite, because every tax dollar spent on these "new jobs" is a dollar that wasn't spent in the free market. >A private person has incentive to spend their money efficiently. The government has no such incentive, and so that dollar >spent by the government does not represent a real world demand. It signals nothing true in the market. (Excuse poor wording. I need to get some sleep.) This is a bit of a tangent, but I was recently listening to Stephan's debate with Peter Joseph of Zeitgeist. He makes the same economic fallacy by claiming that increasing automation in the labor industry is bad. Labor jobs are lost, but robots reduce cost of production, and therefore they reduce cost to consumers (as long as competition exists).

I'm sorry, but could you clarify? Are you describing holographic data storage? Or are you purposing a 3-D computer generated world that is designed to replicate the real world? -
I'm just going to restate this because it is important: Take a mixed class which values utility over tradition. Martial arts are not mystical, nor are they useless. They are traditional, which means valuing classic systems over practicality (another thing Bruce Lee warns against [be formless]). Boxing is an important martial art to learn, but you shouldn't see particular forms of fighting as 100% superior. Every strike and hold has a counter. Also, boxing is susceptible to inside fighting forms (grappling being one of them) since striking requires rotation and distance to build momentum.

Steph often says "arguing from first principles" and I interpreted that as having strong logical basis. I would add that we must value truth above comfort.

Why Stefan is Wrong About Atheism

A rather concise explanation of the video -
What is this unethical behavior you are attributing to women? Choosing partners is a voluntary process. Does it make you angry that they aren't interested in you?

Recently, Stephan has discussed atheism and its correlation with statism and leftist ideals. While atheism is just one position about the existence of god(s), Stephan's position is that people without religion lack the moral directives of the religious. For example, Atheists must derive things like work ethic and family values from their personal experience rather than religious literature. Skepticism requires fair application to maximize enlightenment (atheism is only one line of dominoes, to borrow Steph's analogy). Where is the first line of dominoes, then? What first principles must a person acquire so that they don't narrow their scope of skeptical inquiry?

When she shows examples of popular techniques failing to stop the attack, she does the techniques incorrectly. Ex 1: Never punch someone in the pectoral (chest muscle) like this woman. You are supposed to strike the solar plexus to cause a diaphragm spasm (loss of deep breath). Ex 2: If someone is choking you, placing your arm between theirs like a lever, grab your other hand, and pry. The weakest part of the grip is between the thumb and index finger; you should exploit that. My question to the woman is: If a man is choking you, why would he let strike him in the face? If you understand body mechanics, karate techniques will make sense. If you don't, they will seem superfluous. As an aside: all martial arts are derivative. Bruce Lee's Jeet Kune Do celebrates this. He values practically over tradition.

I wholeheartedly agree with you. The real issue is reliance and belief in the state. Our religious beliefs (or lack thereof) are not holding the gun in the room. -

Facts cannot be racist. If you are arguing logically, from sound premises, you are not being racist.
