Cool. No, I imagine technology might not have a limit at all. I don't want to make this question any more provocative then it is. I simply thought it was interesting. That said, Hitchens expressed that he didn't want religion to end because he enjoyed the sparring and there would be no one left to argue with. I don't think that's a good stance to take and was put off when he said it.

Perhaps people are not hearing my question as intended. Stef has spoken many times of a voluntary society with free trade, reduction in crime and all the amenities of virtue. I get that this is a multi-generational forecast. I'm only asking to put yourself there now. What would you do? Build better mousetraps? Write poetic computer code? Challenge robots to a staring contest?
-
I'm using "medicine" in a very generic, beneficial cure for what ales you type way. Are we saying that a free society is but a dream?
-
Okay so this is an exercise in imagination but I thought it might be curious to ponder. Philosophy, like medicine, is in the business of putting itself out of business. Come with me if you will to a distant future where first principles are as common as oxygen and human violence is greatly reduced. Automation has replaced most inconvenient occupations and leisure time is abundant. Free markets, NAP and UPB are cultural norms. What would you contribute to the world?

Just finished watching. Man I don't know. It was a tough viewing. Very well done but I just come away feeling bleak and wounded.

I do see how it could be misleading, yes. Glad we cleared it up. We are probably in agreement that voting won't change the violent outcome but those who don't see that will wonder why you don't want to keep your knees intact.
-
Be not staggered ol chum. I haven't suggested that people are forced to vote. The kidnapper is going to break your knees and take your lamp regardless if you vote or not. I'm only saying that some people believe that they have a say it which one will happen.
-
I am playing devils advocate for why people vote. If you were given the choice of broken knees or stolen lamp would you elect not to choose because you don't want to participate in the kidnappers game? You would have to be convinced that the kidnapper won't base his decision on your choice. If you thought it might effect his decision then you'd say take the lamp.
-
We are all already kidnapped. Whether our choice to vote affects the outcome of how much damage said kidnapper will do is the question. Some believe that their vote is a way to lesson the damage. If the vote means nothing then it won't matter what choice the kidnapper gives us as they will simply do as they please. Hence, why I've never participated.

Weclome Daivd. Oh come on someone had to:)

Having to pay taxes is the kidnapped bit.

Being one who has never voted I still ponder this analogy. If you were kidnapped and given the choice of having your legs broken or your shoes stolen wouldn't you give permission to take the shoes?

Good point. It gets messier when the bear tells us it's not hungry and then find that it's not true. The bear has to prove that it's no longer a threat before we can trust it. Of course if a bear is talking to you then that's a whole other set of problems:)

Great. So either way you spin it Christianity advocates murder.

My point was that they claim to follow Christ and yet kill. At some point they have to justify in their own minds that they are doing the will of god otherwise what's the point of being Christian?

Migrant Crisis in Europe set up by U.S. intelligence

I would be quite interested in Stef and Jeffrey Tucker having a chat on this. Looks like they are at near opposite ends of the spectrum. -

Trying to understand the 'refugee' / migrant situation
DCLugi replied to regevdl's topic in Current Events
It's difficult for me to even attempt to unpack the twisted mess this is because we have to begin from an immoral stance. Most people don't want to boil it down to taxes that fund the housing for refuges. The wall of emotions is too much to hurdle. If someone wants to travel to a better place, great. If someone wants to steal my money to fund them, not so great.- 2 replies
