Nicole Arbour: Why You NEED To Spank Your Kids
MysterionMuffles posted a topic in Peaceful Parenting
Such great wisdom backed up with irrefutable facts. [/sarcasm] This is sophistry on overdrive. -
Hmm that seems like a strawman attack. I feel pretty annoyed by this post to be honest. Not saying that it makes you wrong or am I criticizing you in any way, but let me try to elaborate. There is such thing as destructive thought such as thinking about killing others or yourself, and all the constant self attack people are plagued by within their own minds. What I should make explicit out of what I implied, and based on what I've read from Eckhart Tolle, is this: when you focus too much on the past you become full of regret, when you focus too much on the future you become anxious. He does say learning from past mistakes is important, but to dwell on them longer beyond having learned the lesson diminishes your capacity to live in the present. You can think about your future and plan out what you want to do and achieve, but if you're too focussed on every last detail, it robs you from the spontaneity of the present moment which is the only place life can really happen. When you think about the past, it is happening now. When you think about the future, it is happening now. When things happened in the past, you still experienced in the form the present took back then. When you finally experience "the future" it really it only manifests in the form the here and now takes. Compulsive thinking, as he and I define it, is when it occupies your mental faculties to the point that you fail to take action in the present. But you're right insofar using thought for planning a murder and reasoning an escape is destructive, while "obssessing"/mourning the loss of your mother at a young age could flip my statement upside down. I was generally speaking about how most people, the non homicidal populace, spends their energy in thought. What's wrong with giving things a negative label though? I think they deserve it so that you can know the difference between right or wrong. It's good thinking to map out a general idea of your future in terms of what you want to achieve in life, but it's bad thinking to use that same energy to plan out a murder. I don't see how that could be insulting or an emotional defense when it's simply stating the facts.
-
I don't think that's his position... Eckhart sees the value in thinking when it comes to planning and reasoning, but when it comes to compulsive thinking in terms of worrying about the future or obssessing over the past, then it becomes destructive.

Based on a true story: a young girl was diagnosed with an incurable disease, but when she falls from a 3 story tree and hits her head a few times, she wakes up in the hospital completely cured of her pseudo obstruction mutility disorder. Was this a publicity stunt? Did this really happen and is it even plausible? And how does this story rank against the scrutiny under my philosophical review? Check out my video below and let me know what you think!

It's bittersweet to know that other people had a similar experience as me in terms of envying what the Tanner girls had. Sorry to hear about your sister's current life due to her choices and childhood experiences that influenced such choices--whatever those might be, you do not have to share them here.

Holy crap I made this post a whole year ago. Didn't know that there'd be a reboot for it that I would later review on my YouTube channel...which I also didn't know I would reboot this year. Sorry for double posting and the bump, just wanted to share my experience and amazement by how things have turned out this year after posting this. Didn't think I'd come back to talking about this show again let alone binge watching it.

I have no clue what you're talking about lol I forgot to record a sign off message before I finished. I only realized that after I took a shower an hour of editing, and I didn't want to do my hair all over again just to record it XD

They rebel in other ways like DJ's son Jackson helping Kimmy's daughter Ramona ditch school, as well as hanging out with kids who perform dangerous stunts. It's portrayed as something as he picked up from his father but DJ tells him that fighting fires was his job and it saved people while Jackson was just being reckless. In his defense, it is his way of feeling closer to his deceased father. It was 60/40 romance/parenting but I still enjoyed it because it was good when it was there. The disposability thing doesn't apply much if the original men of the show still make guest appearances and do their part with their grandchildren/grandniece/grandnephews and imparting some wisdom for them. The second episode has Uncle Joey babysitting the new cast of kids who are all so enveloped by their iPads that he takes all their devices away and provides them with goofy, but safe weapons like streamers and slime guns. They resent the idea at first because they all want to do their own thing, but it brings them closer in that they want to team up and take Joey down for pranking them. Then of course there's Danny using his media personality to pull some strings so that Max the middle child can ride a fire truck to a friend's party because his father used to be able to do it before the chief of the station was replaced. And yeah I think it would have been interesting to have her divorced as opposed to widowed, and although it's weird for the kids to be instantly okay with her dating new men, it's not that hard to believe since the two guys who compete for DJ's affections are actually swell dudes. Both competant health practitioners and positive male role models for the boys.

Full House was a big part of my childhood, so I was excited and skeptical of it getting a modern day reboot. Does Fuller House live up to the hype or does it disappoint? Check out my video review right here!

How to Be Single (Book AND Film Review)
MysterionMuffles posted a topic in Reviews & Recommendations
Just a couple weeks ago I had the delight of treating myself to the movie How to be Single after whiffing through the novel it is based on. Even though the film has a completely different set of stories and characters, it is just as insightful in regards to undoing the shame and humiliation around being single--either by choice or circumstance otherwise. I'll let my review speak for itself. I hope you enjoy, like, and subscribe for future Book Shelf to Big Screen Reviews -
Lol thanks man I hope this got even more exciting, for this installment, I feel like I gave more of a speech on self-love and self-knowledge than an actual story review Who knew a chick-lit/flick could hold so much wisdom? BECAUSE I DIDN'T!!!

Hey everybody I'd appreciate your time in checking out my Youtube series where I review novels that get adapted for film. I've had this idea for a few years now and produced four 4 episodes. Due to popular demand of my friends when I show them those old episodes, and of course my own volition, I have relaunched my channel with a review on the zombie twist of Jane Austin's classic novel Pride and Prejiduce.

The murderer's preference to murder cannot be universal because then we'd all have to be murdering all the time in order to be moral. UPB applies to the victims because their preferences are universable to others at all times. The preference to not be stolen from, murdered, taped, or subjugated to fraud are always in place in order for NAP violators to infringe on that.

How Our Delusions Keep Us Sane
MysterionMuffles replied to MysterionMuffles's topic in Current Events
Yeah good points I was wondering if there was gonna be a mention of any OBJECTIVE way to measure being realistic and positive because they are NOT mutually exclusive as this article seems to imply. I can see the case for grandiosity pulling us further beyond perceived limitations, but there isn't much regard for perhaps even Nathaniel Branden's approach to self-esteem which requires an objective as possible view of one's own capabilities. -
The Force Awakens and Parental Victimhood CONTAINS SPOILERS

Great post, I resonate it with it a lot. Do you mind if I copy and paste this for a Facebook status? I would also add how Kylo is calling his own father by his full name instead of addressing him as father as a huge sign of losing all parental authority with him. -
I found this article very interesting https://www.brainpickings.org/2014/06/04/david-mcraney-self-enchancement-bias/ To me it begs the question: does self-knowledge fill in that gap between objective happiness and self deluded happiness, or are we always to some degree fooling ourselves about ourselves in order to stay sane? What are your thoughts?

I studied this in high school and remember it quite well. We read the book and watched the movie and here are my thoughts: I hate Blanche Dubois and Blanche Dubois types. They take away the credibility of real victims, but Blanche Dubois types carry themselves in a way that invites predation and exudes immense low self esteem. She's also hypersensitive to the point of PUKING when offended. Like why is she so fickle?! Way to emphasize how abusive Stanley is, right? How dare he take advantage of such a fickle flower? If I knew back then what I know now, I would have pointed this out to my class because like 5tn said, the discussion was purely focussed on demonizing Stanley, and rightfully so, but shouldn't have been the only thing talked about.

Oh man, please tell me more what you know, I am interested. Isn't it still just as healthy to abstain and allow sperm to come and go, or even nocturnal emissions to occur? -
Sharing Childhood Trauma Through Music
MysterionMuffles replied to MysterionMuffles's topic in General Messages
Stefan once made the claim that self-knowledge kind of ruins art, and I think that could be true or untrue depending on the artist. For instance, it seems like Jonathan Davis is still angry about a lot of things in his life and not much of Korn music has had a positive message. Just angry ranting, so in his case, I don't think he has gained much self-knowledge from his catharsis. It's like a perpetual kind of catharsis. But then there are bands like Bring Me the Horizon who started off very heavy, noisy, and angry, and 10 years later are not only choosing to ditch the growling and screaming, but also lightening up their lyrical content as well as the instrumentation crowding. They have taken to the idea of less is more and I think in Oliver Sykes (lead singer of BMTH)'s case, he has gained self knowledge from the years of cathartic music production. He used to be addicted to ketamine and has gone to rehab to kick the habit. In interviews the band has stated that when you lack skill, musician's fall into temptation of covering it up with speed and aggression, and so they've held back in their recent release That's the Spirit. In my experience, my art production has said a lot about my feelings and philosophies as if each piece is an encapsulation of that era of my life. Where I took noisy, horribly structured screamo music, with overly abstract lyrics, I can see that back then I valued verbiage and ambiguity more than accessibility and having a potent message in my music. I would go against the conventional mainstream grain of writing songs with the typical structure of verse chorus verse chorus bridge, and do something entirely in that I may even opt out on even HAVING a chorus in my songs. I've since adapted a little more simplicity in my music so that it's accessible, but not so simple that I don't showcase my skill. I still have my unique structures, but at least there's a catchy chorus to break the several sections apart, and the growling and screaming is gone in favour for clear melodic vocals. My explanation doesn't do it enough justice, but if I ever feel confident about sharing my old recordings and if I can find them, I might share the comparisons. For now though, I'd like to show examples of Bring Me the Horizon of how even their last two records are an example of using their catharsis to actually transcend their old baggage and moving towards something more accessible without abandoning their musical integrity. This is from Sempiternal, their 2013 release. Notice the overuse of harsh vocals, while containing some hint of melody in it. This was the perfect middle ground between Oli Syke's transition from screamer to singer. I'm actually too embarrassed to show anything else before Sempiternal because the vocals were much more harsh and less refined. This song Sleepwalking, I would believe, is about his experiences of being under the influence of drugs. I could be wrong, but I get that impression because when I used to smoke a lot of weed, it did feel like I was sleepwalking and that my "skin was smothering me" at times. And now this is from their 2015 release That's the Spirit. Oli has now chosen to use clean vocals predominantly and spare the harsh vocals when it's time for emphasis. So he's still shedding some of his darkness little by little, but the music is clearly starting to change for the brighter in terms of content and mood. Throne, I think, is a tribute to the idea that what doesn't kill you could only make you stronger. I find empowerment in this song because I feel like I can honour my pain and let it strengthen me if I choose a mindset of determination. And to those who shared videos please elaborate, if you can, on what the lyrics/music means to you and how it relates to the topic. I'd appreciate it! -
Good point. Both are at fault and neither of them are showing any signs of introspection on their choices. They are more committed to their wounds and antagonizing the other then actually understanding how they could let this happen. Matthew would have to learn why he allowed himself to be pushed around like that and Nicole should look in to why she thinks hitting and controlling him was okay.
-
I'm surprised by the lack of compassion in this thread, save for Matthew's posts. I'm instantly reminded of this "MAN UP!" mentality that's inflicted on abuse victims. Sure, Matthew Sontaro is a grown man who chose all these things, but much like a female victim in the same kind of situation, there is something about the abuser that attracts them and keeps them in the relationship longer than they should be in it. Even when the abuse occurs. This whole "it was only once" bullshit is akin to "my parents only beat me once." Just because it once, doesn't make it any less serious. I will grant the man self ownership in choosing to stay with her and for ditching all his friends, and I am disappointed that there's nothing in his video about introspecting on how he attracted her in the first place--but that do Tell me more. Tell me more. He also sniffed a lot while looking down. He must be part of the secret reptilian race. esn't erase the initial sympathy I have for what he went through.

Girlfriend aggression
MysterionMuffles replied to trodas's topic in Men's Issues, Feminism and Gender
That's a stupid prank to begin with. This is clearly an unhealthy relationship if that's the kind of prank he pulls on her. -
You may know her best from her Dear Fat, People video, she was dating another Youtuber who I haven't even heard of til I saw this video show up on my front page. Matthew Santaro speaks out about how he was hit by her, and isolated from his friends and family because of her. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VZ27W2K12fk and here is her side of things where it makes me wonder if the abuse was twofold. The clips she has at the beginning of her video show him play punching her in the face and biting her shoulder, which although "playful" still makes me wonder... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rX19DiD_a9E or maybe she's gaslighting the shit out of him and their viewership... People's comments in her video though do make me have a little hope that they don't easily believe her (if she's lying and deflecting) just because of EGGS! What are your thoughts?
