  1. I have to agree with her, whenever I watch Friedman I get this big asshole chill down my back. He does this smile at you while saying a hard cold reality thing that just makes him seem like a real abusive guy. The way he defends his students, who worked for Pinochet, is incredibly callous. That being said, I don't dispute any of his economic theories. ooooo id love to hear it, have a link or remember the name?
  2. That is the important conclusion I was trying to draw out, actually. That demand for resources is universal. The only variable is the community. Right, so it is possible for an individual or community not to use violence to obtain the resources they desire. I don't personally use violence, and I live in a country which doesn't use violence on other communities, in fact, they don't have a standing army. Therefor, it is the community and how it is structured which determines if violence is used to gain resources. I would take it further and argue that communities which don't use violence receive more access to resources. Costa Rica, where I live, enjoys the highest quality of life in Central America and is the only country without a military. An argument I articulated in my first quote, that violence causes poverty.
  3. I sincerely disagree with your arguments. The home analogy isn't apt, and I am not sure you understand that empathy is essential to the NAP. The NAP, and objective morality, don't matter to sociopaths (those who lack empathy). Morality, and not as rhetoric, but morality in practice is only appealing to empathetic human beings. The only way to inspire empathy is with empathy, there are no other solutions. You can't neglect, scream at, or debate someone into compassion. My goal is to continue being empathetic even i it is not successful. I might seize engaging a non-empathetic or abusive person, but my approach next time with the next person will till be empathy. I am curious, when you engage in online discourse do you practice empathy? I myself have a history of being fairly abusive during online conversations. When I am not being abusive, at my best, I was just being neutral and rational. I never found either to be effective. In one day of this technique I think I changed more opinions than my entire history online. And resisting my temptations to be frustrated is excellent practice in my own life for being an empathetic person, the reward goes both ways. And I admit, I am not doing a perfect job of it myself, I thin I am reverting into being argumentative still.
  4. Do anything and everything humanly posible immediately, involve the state, involve anyone. There is no time to waste. And why are you associated with these people?
  5. I believe the opposite is true. An increase in crime and violence and coercion leads to poverty. Poor people aren't inherently violent, but violence inherently depreciates value. Humans are all dependent on external resources, and it is fundamental to biology as a whole. Corruption and war limit our access to those resources as a whole.
  6. You really pulled a lot out of that. Let me be clearer, "If our goal is to teach people how to empathize, we need to practice it." I think the goal of the FDR forum comes down to the moral argument. UPB and the NAP mean nothing in practice without empathy. I think it is deontological to be the change you want to see, not consequential.
  7. And yet people here own machine guns. They're also not going to criminalize it here, it isn't like the US with this advanced tax structure. Its more true to the mafia model, they just send cops business to business and make them pay for licenses. That and drug money fund the entire government here. Bitcoin isn't a threat to it in the least. and MOST importantly, it is impossible to police. The resources required to check every computer, thumb drive, email, etc for bitcoins and then track them to the person and attempt to put them in jail.... it would be beyond the scope of even the US Government. It is as hard to police as bittorrenting. And lets go over that, whats the history of torrent and criminality? They busted Napster, a couple movie hosting websites, and targeted some small handful of private consumers. And it stopped NOTHING.
  8. The socratic method is another excellent approach. One thing Stef does I'd like to adopt, just a one sentence reply. I can look, but it is aushc a long long long list of comments and I cleared my inbox. If they send me another message it will pop up. The really good one ws private, so I wouldn't want to make it public. if we're advocating the moral principle of empathy, using empathy is deontological.
  9. Lot of American centric thinking here. If it made illegal in the United States, it doesnt make it illegal everywhere. The other 5.7 Billion will still be here.... And as those countries prosper from access to it, smart people will be buying it illegal or not.
  10. Ask questions. I asked one guy "Wait, what do you think Libertarianism is about?" and he was so off, i realize i could have waste hours talking past him if i didnt know he was arguing against something completely different. He thought it was about privatizing the military and in favor of the Federal Reserve.
  11. I just happen to be home nursing a bad chest cold, so i thought shit I might as well put it into practice. My recent deFOO from my parents has really helped eliviate my frustration and hot temperateness, personally.
  12. Inspired by Stef's approach with Russell Brand, I attempted a little empathy myself with some youtubers. Mostly it went about as you would expect, deflection, lots of weird trying to sound smart obscure replies... but one guy.... he started attacking me saying I was this and that. I didn't attack back, but expressed curiosity and interest and he apologized and seemed to have some kind of revelation. We ended up talking about some childhood trauma and other stuff and he even sent me a private message. Another guy who thought this community was about NeoLiberalism was saying we were advocating the exploitation of the third world. I was able to convince to watch an Introduction to Anarchy, and he appeciated being exposed to new thinking. If Stef's theory about unresolved childhood trauma is even half true, hell even if it isn't, our "no you're wrong! dummy!" approach is completely ineffective. Meaning if you're using the approach you're not being aware of the consequences of your approach. And if your not being aware of the consequences, your being abusive, and doing a disservice to the message. I'm stepping it up myself, who is with me?
  13. The other topic was annoying, no question.
  14. wdiaz, that doesnt hold true for bittorrent or marijuana, why would it hold true or bitcoin? I live in Costa Rica, there is no way the US criminalizing bitcoin would effect its usage here.
  15. Darksky, I dont think you're addressing the right person or topic. This person did not recommend Stef do psychadelics, that was another person in another topic.

  17. I have become a big Marc Maron fan because of his recent podcast WTF. His politics in the past were very leftists and generally turned me off from him. He has since completely given up on politics and now does an interview style podcast. He is a VERY emotionally deep guy. He has some gut wrenching and deep episodes where people talk about their drug addiction, suicide attempts, child abuse, etc. He is VERY empathetic and intelligent and wonderful and I recommend you guys check it out.

  19. I think people are disgusted with this topic because of its tasteless presentation. A petition means peer pressure. I wouldn't have a problem with Stef doing whatever he wants, but I would be a little disappointed if he actually succumbed to this ridiculous petition by this unempathetic person. Of course, he isn't going to, because he has dealt with the void left by child abuse that seems to fill itself with high risk attempts to please other people.
  20. I would love to illustrate a kids book written by stef, ive been worrking on my own
  21. they havent even legalized marijuana, the sluggish speed of government change or inability to change is never to be under estimated.
  22. It is the only external threat to central banking world wide, the internal threat being their inevitable collapse

  25. Just a little update........ I am the head programmer for the Venus Project Super Computer, and we just reached a new milestone after spending all the money we made publishing videos on youtube, we've finally finished counting all the blades of grass. Next we'll be writing an equation to account for the methane produced by cow's farts. One step at a time guys, don't be such negative nancys. And whatever you do, DO NOT PLANT MORE GRASS!
