  1. First problem, no such thing as countries, right? Which means no one country can defend itself, its the people who do so. Following the logic that a country is a concept just like a forest, we look at the "trees" So the question then becomes, are Israelis engaged in self defense? What does the establishment of the said country has to do with the fact that if there was an offense, those who are the offenders no longer alive, and are not even targeted. And this is why I countered your question, because if you go by countries and not by people, you will end up justifying Mexicans killing Americans, you will end up justifying terrorist attacks that were carried out in Moscow metro and so on.
  2. Unconditional love usually refers to parents loving their children (at least this is how it suppose to be) No matter what you as a child do, they the parents should still love you. If you get angry at them and act out.... The same can not be applied to adult love, it is conditional on the bases that you are acting in the loving manner towards the other person. You dont swear at them, you do not aggress, you do not yell etc.
  3. 1) I was not talking about assassinations against those on the ground, I was talking about leaders of the terrorist groups (they do not use human shields, since they themselves do not go to fight) 2) Ok let me state that using human shields is despicable and morally reprehensible, and the person who uses a human shield is responsible for the death of the person he used as a shield. This fact still doesnt take away from innocent dying when Israel launches rockets or goes in to the territory. It is simply impossible to claim that all innocent who died as the result, were all used as human shields. 3) By not picking sides, I am asking for all people to stop picking sides, there is sadly no 1 absolutely innocent side here. By this I mean, on all sides absolutely innocent people as well have died though this conflict not just guilty, and I am not going to blindly defend one side. No, I do not have a clue, I dont think I was proposing one either.
  4. I have seen the debate you have had with Larkin, he advocates assassinations in your scenarios, but then I remember Israelis assassinating the heads of terror groups, and the whole world was up in arms about the very fact. What I am confused about, is why it all seems so one sided? Am I completely against Israel launching attacks and in the process killing innocent, no shit I am. But here is a kicker, Iam also against Palestinians killing innocent Israelis and launching endless mortar and rocket attacks. Why is it when it comes to the conflict, people always choose a side? There are no excuses for the death of the innocent on either side, people stop being so thick skulled will you?
  5. Isnt just about every country in one shape or form is occupying that which used to be another territory? And what is the point of the question? By that I mean this, fact-Israelis are living on a territory that used to be in large held by some other arbitrary entity which claimed it before. Do you have a conclusion to this fact? What is your proposition from stating this fact ?
  6. Hi Jake. The gender refers to the product name. If you find that there is one gender that is targeted (will use your product more) then the product name will be more memorable for the target audience. If product is gender neutral, you can bypass this consideration all together. The age group/range, does matter, if you are selling to children, then the name should be more appealing to that age group, if you know for example that your name lands you in to senior group, the name will not be appealing to the appropriate age group. If you wish, you can read "positioning" how to position your product. If your product name is your business name and no other names are given to the product line, then the reason for such consideration is to make sure that you have the name that sounds good and appealing. At the end, if you think that this is a waste of your time, then by all means disregard everything I am saying. Its not a big deal. Best of luck wish you the best in your venture.
  7. Hi Jake. From what I understand when it comes to "positioning" in the name of the business, here are the things recommended for picking a name. 1)It shouldn't be too generic, it doesnt ring well with the customers 2)What gender is the main public you are going for? With gender in mind, think of the names that sound either feminine or masculine 3)The product line that you have, what are the most important qualities that you want for customers to consider, see if this can be implemented in the name 4) Try to have the name which is easy to remember and if possible, something that is easy when rolling of the tongue. 5) What is the most likely age group. 6) When people use your product, how will they feel? Would they feel refreshed? Energized? The feeling is also something you might want to consider in the name, or rather a name that carries that feeling across. Just some of my thoughts, hope it helps
  8. Well, think of the relationships you have had. Do you remember who asked who out? Was it you who asked men out, or was it them? If it was men who asked you out, that means they proposed and you made a choice to say yes or no, it rather boils down to this.
  9. Hi Scott, thank you for sharing. Im sorry to hear about your childhood, the fact that you basically had to invent yourself, in my opinion is very difficult and damning on your caregivers. They had some idea of what its like to be an adult, all they had to do was to at least guide you in the direction of what not to do, and a little bit of how to be. But from what it seems, they did none of it, they left you to make all unnecessary mistakes on your own, no light, no star to guide you through the murky path. For that I deeply sympathize. One thing I want to add, a suggestion. When you are going to work for people, you are going to provide value for them, what i mean by that, is that YOU have value. Stafan mentioned this in his podcast :"Every job a person does, one way or another brings extra profit to the company, how it is calculated is something you can either research or at some point sit down with a manager to help you figure out specif numbers" What this can give you, is a road map, things you do = this much profit to the company, extra things you do=much more profit in clearer numbers. The idea of more or less exact profit a person brings to a company, the very knowledge, I found to be very useful in being secure in workplace (so you do not end up thinking that those who hired you are doing you a favor, on day to day basis). Hope it helps.
  10. Hi Tyler, thank you for sharing. Reading your post, I couldnt stop saying "WTF" when I read what your step father did. I tried to place my self in his shoes, and I have to tell you it was very uncomfortable. To imagine myself, setting a can of Pepsi down and then telling a child "do not drink it". the only reason I would see doing so, is precisely to "punish the child". Its sort of setting arbitrary commandments (not rules, but commandments) to beat the child into obedience. It felt sadistic being in his shoes, to gain satisfaction from commanding a child.
  11. Yeah I agree with you completely, well we cant expect rationality from those Arachno-capitalists who study Australian economics, yep, no measuring devices at all Hey good job on the post mate, I laughed my butt off
  12. Well I understand its not an argument. The reason for me not recommending anything is because I no longer live in Russia. The other reason is that I never had much need in doing so, since just about everything English speaking people have on hand, so do Russian speaking. Rand is translated, philosophy is studied in college. FDR is yet to be translated, but as far as referral goes, you can just as easily direct them to Rand. http://goldenfront.ru/articles/list/tag/анархо-капитализм
  13. I dont refer them to any sources (maybe Im not understanding what you mean). I simply talk to them about philosophy and volunteerism, by presenting concepts in Russian.
  14. Well as I mentioned all of her books are in Russian now, the reason for the books not being in Russian at the time she was alive is quiet simple, the "Iron Curtain" , even though some books were passing around as contraband, you couldnt publish anything at mass.
  15. just as a side note since you asked, I am happy to say that all Ayn Rand books are in Russian translation and have been for a very long time. What I have personally found (meaning my personal experiences not generalization) is that Russians I speak to, can be and are very logical intelligent people. Many Russians are indeed mired in the whole communism socialism mantras, but I found that their personal ideologies are coming from faulty logic (by that I mean no deities are involved). I find it much easier talking to many Russians since they do not go by faith.
  16. I have no problem talking to my Russian friends and family members in Russian about philosophy. Can you tell me the whole point that you are trying to make by saying things such as "Russian mindset" or "language isnt readily available", what is the point in saying this? I understand the difficulty in talking to some who have yet to learn the concepts, but what is your point about Russians that you constantly bring this up? Im just curious, can you tell me what it is you are trying to say about Russians?
  17. Let me give it a shot Reason=Virtue=Happiness Reason-the power of the mind to think, understand, and form judgments by a process of logic. So we can biol it down to logical thinking (Логическое Мышление) Virtue-behavior showing high moral standards (моральное поведение) or just (мораль) Happiness- Счастье Логическое Мышление=моральное поведение=Счастье How does that look?
  18. Well I simply didnt like the statement "not the most rational bunch". Would you not agree that it carries a lot of negative connotation. This is what I responded to by voting down. Maybe a knee jerk reaction on my part. I should have just responded to you to clarify instead of marking you down, I apologize for that. I am going to up one of your other posts, since I can not fix this one.
  19. It wasnt Toren who downwoted you, it was me. I did so, because I didnt like your characterization of Russians being not the most rational bunch, we are not a bunch. And then in the same post you contradicted yourself by pointing out very rational Russian speaking people. Russians are just as irrational as English speaking people, after all "the American empire". Last point I want to make is this: I am Russian speaking, not Russian as in holding /having any ties with geographical location with a name, and really do not like when people bunch others together.
  20. Yep I speak Russian, I imagine my name gives it away as well. I wont write in Russian here, but in short, shoot me a private message, I will be happy to join in.
  21. Agreeable as in conforming to proposed ethics (as in ethics not based on anything, or contradictory) ? Well I can imagine such peoples childhoods, where arbitrary rules were forced on them, and disagreements punished. I now very much so "conform" to logic and evidence, well at least I strive to. I dont think its "agreeable" trait that is the problem, but rather the absence of universal rules.
  22. No actually I think he meant Arachno-capitalist
  23. Well from what I see, the whole "rape culture" is a pure fallacy, attempting to have men to self attack for being a man. I personally always pass on others trying to make me self attack for being me (I self attack on my own just fine, no need to add to it) As far as rape culture (promoting ignoring rape) well where is the evidence of that? The opposite has gone to the point of absurdity, women get to falsely accuse men, and suffer no consequences, the rape of boys and men is largely ignored. I simply fail to see the evidence of so called "rape culture"
  24. Here is how I see it. Are there companies that will use shady methods to profit? Yes, no doubt there are and will be. there are and will be companies that will use any and all methods to make a quick buck. This however doesnt bother me in the slightest. There are plenty of product testing sites that even now do the tests on the products to make sure that they work well, a video on youtube of graphics cards comparisons comes to mind. The worst the company the faster it will go out of business. The question comes to mind though, why are such bad practices so prevalent? I would propose, that its due to the cost of entry into the market, the cost which is imposed by gvt. regulations, and other gvt. mandates . The costs are so enormous that less and less companies are able to compete.
  25. Religion is believing in a super powerful entity (creator) what have you. Atheism is accepting that no such thing as creator exists. How would I personally respond? Well I would ask the person to define the term "religion" then I would say that atheism is accepting that there is no deity "accepting" being the operative word. Accepting is abiding by logic and evidence, where is believing can be heavily subjective
