I think that is a very noble project and I wish you all the best. I hope I haven't misinterpreted what your goal is, but UPB has a thought process behind it, and to make an equivalent to the ten commandments every "commandment" would have to be like a page long to grasp the reasoning behind it, and to summarize the philosophy. What I mean by that would be to explain the 3 major sections of the book the theory, practice, and application.. If you don't hope to explain the reasoning behind it then wouldn't this just be the secular 10 commandments that Christopher Hitchens made. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alternatives_to_the_Ten_Commandments#Christopher_Hitchens That being said I believe that if we did create our own 10 commandments we could popularize them, and religions may follow. After all religions often jump on the bandwagon of popularity. For example many catholic churches now embrace evolution now that the evidence is undeniable.

I like your post, and I agree I find the relationship between Mike and Stef to be very fun, and any podcast that has the two of them talking is always a memorable one. I would be interested to know of your struggles "fighting the good fight" they sound to me like some good tales of excitement, and I always appreciate people sticking up for good philosophy. I especially enjoy peaceful parenting anecdotes the best. Great line at the end Hope you don't mind me stealing it. All the best from my trench to yours.

The Warlords of Anarchy
AynRand replied to GasCap's topic in Libertarianism, Anarchism and Economics
I think their is a failure of communication. If warlords exist then anarchy doesn't exist. If the sides of the square are all circular it is a circle not a square. -
I found this to be a great metaphor for government. Very funny.

I just watched your video, and I fully agree it is amazing that we really don't have rights, or at least don't have rights in the sense that mainstream media believes in the word rights. Amazing that so few voices in the American community will recognize this.

Would anyone like to discuss Gone Girl?
AynRand replied to OtherOtie's topic in Reviews & Recommendations
I have seen the movie, but not the Stef review of it or the read the book. I liked the movie I found it very entertaining. What would you like to discuss about it? Maybe relationships between two unloving married people. Morality of infidelity in marriage, or I guess any of the major flaws within a marriage. Or maybe you wanted to discuss the actual plot. I guess either way a discussion would be nice. -
Sorry but I just have to ask Do you believe others will burn in hell for not believing? If the answer is no then I guess I think that it's nice that you can find solace in your religion.

I know the feeling so much. My parents would often yell at me, and when I moved to the university dorms no more yelling at me by my parents. One million times better. I think I heard Stef say in one of his podcasts something like "It's like when you pull your hand out of the fire and say wow it feels so much better away from the fire rather than in it."

What Happens When a Lady "Manspreads"
AynRand replied to Lians's topic in Men's Issues, Feminism and Gender
I found the knee defender story to be a little funnier. http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2014-11-18/flight-crowding-seen-no-justification-for-knee-defenders-in-poll.html I found the video interesting. -
Sitcom: Coming Out Of The Closet As A Black Atheist
AynRand replied to adamNJ's topic in General Messages
I would watch every episode of that. Reason and evidence vs superstition and indoctrination then at the end of every episode Steve Harvey will say something that he thinks will justify his religion. -
Very interesting article I liked it that even the occasional preacher can change his mind on god. While I don't have any stories about religious differences between a couple, I have broken up with girls who I found out supported government programs like taxation. I guess you could say that I am intolerant of people who are intolerant of me, and of people who would support the initiation of force against me for disagreeing with them.

Spanking is Barbaric, Having a Policeman Watch You Spank is Inane
AynRand replied to shirgall's topic in Peaceful Parenting
I liked the points Lionel brought up. I had never heard of his Youtube channel so I'll check it out. Gotta say from this video I think I'll be watching a lot more of his content. I think it is absolutely crazy that many people say cops "are just here to help us" yet when a man assaults his own child the police are called in to almost to approve the actions taken by the father because by witnessing the assault and not taking any actions to prevent it constitutes to me as contributing to that abuse. -
Maybe I have misunderstood you're position on this, but governments do not support any of these instances in the way the NAP does. In fact many Governments violate every instance you have just given. For example the U.S. invasion of Iraq definitively was not anti murder. Taxation is not anti theft. As for your anti rape statement http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/indias-rapists-escape-punishment-because-they-support-its-government-states-legal-expert-1452577 Police brutatlity is not anti assualt. The U.S. Federal Government is the largest polluter in the world. http://ivn.us/2012/04/18/the-number-one-worst-polluter-on-earth-is-the-u-s-federal-government/

I wish the government's around the world understood that as well.

double coincidence of wants
AynRand replied to afterzir's topic in Libertarianism, Anarchism and Economics
I'm sorry I am no expert in this field of economics, but in your weak transferability scenario did the doctor want the carpenter's services and that started the chain reaction of trade? I think these would be great scenario's if we didn't have a system of currency, but I would see far more benefits if we remove the DCOW by adding commodity money to the economy. -
I found this funny. It's nice to have animations specifically targeted for atheists.

Sitcom: Coming Out Of The Closet As A Black Atheist
AynRand replied to adamNJ's topic in General Messages
That is so awkward. I thought this was going to be a video that would help contribute to the social acceptance of atheists in the black community. I was so wrong. The writers make it seem that the christian family is right in shunning this person. How disgusting can it get. I know it is nothing unusual, but I just have to point out how intolerant the Christian family is. -
I think you were absolutely correct in what you did. Any child that has been left on a dining room chair for so long that he can fall asleep is definitively being raised by horrible parents, and in my mind that constitutes child abuse. I am appalled that their are people who can witness the child asleep to avoid eating unwanted food who will do nothing to help intervene or say something, and instead will comment on "how cute the child is". These people should focus on what is best for the child not what looks the cutest. As for the parents claiming they are doing the best for their child is obviously not true. I have found that bad parents will say anything to avoid facing the truth that alternative ways to parent are far superior than "lets just have our child sleep on the chair for the night".

Thank you for sharing. I know that this can be very difficult to open your heart to the world by telling your personal experiences growing up, but luckily everyone here is really nice, and this is the safest spot to share that I have found. I am terribly sorry to read of the horrendous experiences that you had growing up, and I sympathize greatly. I experienced similar circumstances, and know of the pain i'm sure you felt. I would like to know more of your current situation for example how well do you know about the FDR community? If you are well aware of it then have you deFOOed? I think it would give me a better insight into your problem. I can't really answer your question without instances of where you lacked all emotions for truly serious events in your life, but just from reading your post I would say that if you are you have certainly made a good step in self knowledge by recognizing that you had a bad childhood. I'll also add that I believe we are products of our upbringing, but that doesn't mean that we can't change who our future selves will be.

RJ now we have at least 2 flags on this video great idea. I am disgusted at the title of this video. I realize that their are so many contradictions in this video, but I thought the worst was the father proclaiming "all you homies come to my house" as though he is encouraging violence be brought to his household, while beating his son for reason's motivated by gang violence. As for your question JordanS I don't believe it is ever to late to make a better future for communities like this (barring some extreme scenario like setting of a nuclear Holocaust or anything close to that.) A great way to remove gangs from these communities would be to legalize the drugs that provide the financial incentive for these gangs to exist.

Teaching a Child to Ward Off Predators
AynRand replied to MysterionMuffles's topic in Peaceful Parenting
I wish the mother would explain the process of why the daughter should ward off predators, and maybe the mother did do that later on and just didn't post that video on facebook. I saw nothing cruel to the daughter in the video so that is a nice change of pace for youtube video's on parenting. -
"The First Time My Parents Spanked Me" Comic
AynRand replied to alwazqestion's topic in Peaceful Parenting
Very saddened by reading this story. No child should ever have to mask true emotions of pain behind maniacal laughter. Obviously I think those are terrible parents, but I'll focus on the child. I think what has happened to him will stick with him psychologically for a very long time. Now whenever he feels great sadness he may still laugh uncontrollably. The opposite may occur if this abuse goes on in different forms throughout his childhood. For example in moments of happiness he may become sad because when he might equate laughter with pain. Maybe I've read to much into his childhood, but this is just my opinion if situations like this occur throughout his childhood.
