US Government Failure by Design
Jsbrads replied to Chris hart's topic in Libertarianism, Anarchism and Economics
It should be noted we had that minimal government until one day, the Federal Reserve was created, destroyed currency, Great Depression, And FDR forced SCOTUS to cede to a law all knew illegal. Had we had better men in that court, they wouldn’t have buckled to FDR, the court would have been stuffed and FDR would have lost credibility and FDRs ideology of growing government might have failed in this country. -
What Women Actually Want in a Man
Jsbrads replied to MysterionMuffles's topic in Men's Issues, Feminism and Gender
Many women in Los Angeles turn down men who aren’t above a certain financial stature. Most of these women have never accomplished anything of note and some of them aren’t very young either. One person posted a profile by one women who was quiet frank about the dollars a suitor would need to get with her. Most are less honest. -
Subjective individuals cannot reach objective truths alone. Getting along well with others is only a value if you desire rich empires, but that just begs the question, why do we want rich empires? I personally want rich empires, and rich empires can protect the planet from planet killing asteroids, but why would you want that. I like Peterson’s short circuit of my original premise. Individuals can’t reach objective truths, but large numbers of individuals interating many times can evolve a moral system that is more effective than other systems. As for some higher objective truth, that can only come from outside the system, because even if tomorrow, immortal alien who manufactured our world and our DNA and evolved for 13 billion years with quantum brains say, This is what is Moral! The Dude may reply “Yeah, well, that’s just your opinion man.”

Gold or silver...which to invest it? And what kind?
Jsbrads replied to Crusader1986's topic in General Messages
The government goes completely and unrecoverably bankrupt when no one will accept their currency. So long as there are people willing to accept fiat currency, it retains the value people place on it. Gold has little intrinsic value compared to steel outside of the world of electronics. Steel has a safer value if people abandon electronics, steel’s strength and temperature resistance would continue to be valuable in a post apocalyptic world were people may have little need for shiny metals as merely a method to store value (so arbitrarily). Dylan, I get that you don’t think a government can go bankrupt. I disagree. -
Once printed currency value drops below the cost of its paper, it can no longer “create” value.

Jsbrads replied to Crusader1986's topic in General Messages
US currency is just paper. Admittedly it would be hard for US to devalue currency because other countries devalue their currency at the same rate, but it is possible. If the US continues on the same trajectory, it isn’t a matter of if, but when. When a $20 trillion note loses value, below the paper value the government goes bankrupt. US credit rating dropped once under Obama. -
Are women capable of agency?
Jsbrads replied to Fashus Maximus's topic in Men's Issues, Feminism and Gender
Bring all your “coercion” against a woman who has to protect her children from you, just don’t make it too easy by eating the food she makes. She will find a way to end you.- 95 replies

Are women capable of agency?
Jsbrads replied to Fashus Maximus's topic in Men's Issues, Feminism and Gender
They choose their friends, a spouse and their decisions vis a vie their children is less conflict avoidance and more rational protective and positive. They can be very unagreeable if you try to harm their children. They usually care less about other things. Having a different set of perspectives, thought processes and motivations doesn’t mean that they aren’t making choices and have agency. Men when are hungry they want food. Women when hungry tend to still desire good food that they are in the mood for. This sometimes leads to conflict. Women are more concerned with appearance. Men often worry about things like performance of cars, computers and iPhones, even if they never tax their things.- 95 replies

Gold or silver...which to invest it? And what kind?

Just don’t look at Greece. -
Shirgall, when a determinist claims the can rationally choose action, the difference in results can shrinks dramatically. As to changes due to brain damage, there is no significant difference between that and changes in thought patterns when someone becomes handicapped. Much like when someone becomes handicapped, they can choose rationally or via free will to become bitter, or Zen like happy, so too someone suffering a brain injury can accept their new brain patterns or see them as a challenge to overcome. My thought patterns have changed due the past 3.5 yrs of poverty, tho I consider myself somewhat recovered at this moment, I most probably will never view the world in quiet the same carefree, optimistic manner I did before.

upb Rebuttal to 557 regarding the legitimacy of "the golden rule"
Jsbrads replied to soared4truth's topic in Philosophy
You allow for the golden rule to be upgraded to mean that Jon shouldn’t buy Max Jon’s favorite ice cream, but you fail to recognize an eye for an eye most important contribution (which was revolutionary in its time) Proportionality. -

I think Fiat currency can contribute to a collapse here. Governmental collapse after they go bankrupt. EMP can be a short term collapse where people need to feed themselves until the rebuild. -
Are women capable of agency?
Jsbrads replied to Fashus Maximus's topic in Men's Issues, Feminism and Gender
Yeah agreeableness does not indicate lack of agency. That just means they would rather choose to go out with friends, than stay home and type on a computer to a bunch of annoying guys here women Choose men and most of them adamantly take control of child-rearing and are willing to argue where the welfare of their children come into play. Yes they make different choices than men. That doesn’t in any way indicate differing levels of agency.- 95 replies

How and why can people ignore their God’s immoral ways?
Jsbrads replied to Gnostic Bishop's topic in Atheism and Religion
The Christian system precludes murder. Nazis weren’t Christian, they tried to revive pagan ideology. The wholesale murder of undesirables in Leftists arenas, like Nazis, Commies, Abortion Mills and other similar trends which included the sterilization of people in the US. Atheism doesn’t mean someone can’t also have a moral system. Merely that atheism is almost unequivocally paired with a rejection of the prior established system. And in the vast majority of the time, those people don’t have a moral system. -

Gold or silver...which to invest it? And what kind?
Jsbrads replied to Crusader1986's topic in General Messages
So I always thought Silver was less volatile than Gold, excluding the slight temporary volatility of today and still a very small percentage. When holding silver for use, silver pre-1964 quarters are accessible standardized and the right size for trade. The gold credit card is good too, but the value is much larger, better for larger purchases if larger purchases can happen. The probability than people can afford to store that much value in a metal is less likely. If people are living on $1 a day, storing $50 in a tiny piece of gold might be a problem. -

[Central] - Climate Change / Global Warming topic
Jsbrads replied to Torero's topic in Science & Technology
I’ll admit my post might be better than Monkton, if you can follow all the material. Monkton isn’t really following a teaching model, it is the lecture model, persuasion. I think few public speakers educate. That’s why TED talks are unique (many of them teach you something new). Milton Friedman was an educator too.- 16 replies

Did God err in making Adam ruler over Eve?
Jsbrads replied to Gnostic Bishop's topic in Atheism and Religion
You fail to understand who Adam was. I already made the decision to eat it. The question is only what will I do now that I have eaten from it. Also, your response has no connection to my comment, just observing. -
How and why can people ignore their God’s immoral ways?
Jsbrads replied to Gnostic Bishop's topic in Atheism and Religion
Based on history we can empirically see that people who abandon the morality of their fathers without a valid replacement, that they are not only capable, but very likely to behave in a less moral way than other people who are constrained by morality even if that moral system is imperfect. Moral systems may be evolutionary even if their adherents believe it is from God, and it is very rare that people abandon the morality they held for centuries if someone says let’s murder in the name of God. Amoral, scientific claims have convinced people to engage in behavior that moral systems would find abhorrent. communism being the biggest, but not the only case. Nazis. Margaret Sanger and many doctors in US, and other countries engaged in genetic cleansing operations. Japan also believed that they were racially superior...
