  1. Let me ask you a question yagami. Why do you want to anger these people? I know you said it might be fun and all, but why would it be fun and how does it profit your life? You're free to do what you want of course, but if you want to hear what a philosopher would do. Then they will always ask what is the purpose and what is the profit.
  2. Strikes me as the lazy way to connect with ones children
  3. You know rothbard, that could have come with a serious warning for viewers and at least some commentary on your part. In future, please do so.
  4. So our next discussion will be on Saturday 13 December at 20:00 (GMT/UTC). We shall be discussing the movie. The Giver. A film which has been requested over a dozen times now. Here is one of the better trailers for this movie. Below is the Google+ event page for those that would like to participate in the call. Seeing as we can only manage a maximum of 10 callers I will prioritise callers that provide scenes or themes they would like to discuss ahead of the call on the event page. 5. I have to agree, self defence is the very last resort and comes with a very high cost attached to it. Albeit a cost that we're not necessarily culpable for. Still, I can't imagine anything more horrific than a dead body lying on my carpet that I just killed.
  6. Ideology is often a reflection (replacement) for unmet needs. So when people disagree with your ideology, they then (unjustly) become the protagonist for those previously unmet needs. It's similar to your opening analogy, about hating all men because your father used to hit you. Make sense?
  7. Broadly speaking, it's the difference between understanding where your emotion is coming from (rational) and when you don't (irrational) and 'act out' on others not responsible for making you feel the way you do.
  8. Well said Rose. This is the most worrying aspect of women never self criticising their behaviour or actions. As it allows them to fall prey to all the predators out there.
  9. I'm rather less inclined to think this video is a dig at Stefan. You do make a reasonable point though Ryan all the same. Particularly in light of all the recent unsubstantiated criticism coming from certain quarters of the manosphere. That said, Aaron is a self described non philosopher, but he is an accountant, mathematician even. So when he sees figures like this fly by him, he naturally recoils in horror the poor fella. The funny thing is, the figures he quotes were almost the same figures Stefan pointed out in a podcast several months back. And how on earth did he miss the Amazon affiliate link at the bottom of FDR's front page. Give the old chap a pair specs I say. J/K
  10. I'm curious to get some honest feedback about the show, as we are now 3 shows under the hood with a fourth in the making. The last one was a little different to before, but curious to know how well people were engaged with it. Whether they connected with the content or not. Feel free to PM me if you prefer. Thanks for your time.
  11. Defining violence is simple. It's the initiation of force. Self defence is merely retaliatory violence in response to that initiation. Drunk driving isn't the initiation of force. It is by virtue accidental. Having said that, it still comes with consequences as would any accidental death anyone caused. Such as a doctor that seems to lose an average of 70% of his patients on his operating table. Who's going to be operated by him with those statistics. Do you imagine that the drunk drivers community might decide he should have sanctions placed on him with the threat of ostracism (not force). This is a classic example of what leftists do to avoid being held culpable for condoning the initiation of violence. If they can justify violence against a drunk driver, then they can condone all manner of violence the state enjoys. It's similar to where Peter Joseph gets his claim for 'structural violence' from.
  12. The finished call... http://youtu.be/YCHIc_HF0VY?list=PLKBy5TfhROtTi6ENOQZBib3WIABZaI6TD
  13. So why should anyway else assuage your need then.. Go figure who the lazy one is here.
  14. Bumping this for tonight's call as advertised above^^
  15. There is nothing more annoying on this board than people who arrive here having not read any of the free books and literature available here. In answer to the above question, read this short book Practical Anarchy Or listen to the audio version if you prefer here.
  16. Ok, so the Philosophy Film Club will be doing a follow up call amongst the guys running the show (Ady & Patrick) tomorrow evening at 9:30 pm (UTC/GMT). We shall live stream it for your pleasure. Make sure you are logged into your Google+ account to watch the live stream. That way you can send us comments within the stream itself. https://plus.google.com/u/0/b/117472908323246912161/events/cishhei7ij113fainstim3dl4gg
  17. Bump, starting in 20 minutes or so
  18. Ok tonights show on Gravity will be at 8 pm (UTC/GMT). In around 3 hours or so from time of posting. Feel free to listen and all feedback is welcome. EDIT - This is now the published show
  19. Yes, I agree with Kalmia, his view is certainly a reasonable biological consideration. Clearly not the only one of course. But the reason this opinion is often laughed out of the park is largely as an obfuscation of the truth. People mostly rely on the cultural narrative and rarely think beyond the end of their nose on this topic. On an aside, this explains the horror when society hears of a women murdering her children. That said, even then they try and chalk it up to mental illness. Whereas a father that did the same is nearly 'always' a psycho.
  20. Hey Sydney, if your channel gets more traction in future, I think it makes sense that you can promote shaving products you like.. Great way to get an unwitting audience listening to voluntaryist ideas and philosophy and potentially a revenue stream for yourself too. Who knows.
  21. I believe that's what they refer to in Britain, as 'lying back and thinking of england'. I think the metaphor included keeping ones eyes shut, so as not to spoil the illusion.
  22. Yes, always good to brush up on statist arguments too. And I like they way they make the subject matter easy to follow. However, they do tie themselves in knots over property outside of the body, but then get all holy at the thought of selling ones kidney.
  23. Then at least tell them you struggle with expressing your needs.. See how they respond to that and how their response makes you feel.
  24. Yes I hear your anxiety about supporting parents. Why not ask them up front what they think about it. That way you'll quickly discover what their bias is. I would say you can have just as many bad IFS therapists as regular ones probably. Question them hard at first. After all you are the customer. Good luck!
  25. You can always go with a regular therapist.. IFS is one route, but certainly not the only one. I have had friends successfully use an IFS therapist mind, although I didn't myself.
