  1. CBO: Federal Revenue to Set Record in 2013 See, you can get blood from a stone!
  2. That's quite astounding considering that there aren't even 170M employed Americans (which is, itself, astounding). She's an imbecile. Google her name with either 'moron' or 'stupid' and see what you find.
  3. Artificial Sweeteners in Milk? Sounds delicious. I stopped drinking cow's milk about 20 years ago. I use almond milk as a substitute if I cook something requiring milk.

  7. While you're correct, the video is still funny and makes a good point about the cluelessness of the average person on the street. He has made several videos like this. I can understand if people have strong reservations about handing over $20 because that will buy gas and groceries, but it's amusing to see people unwilling to pay $1, which people routinely spend on lottery tickets.
  8. Whether or not I think it's acceptable is beside the point. In the scenario you presented, you said that the farmers were "inflicting" starvation. The farmers are not the cause. In centrally planned economies (eg. North Korea) people are prevented from feeding themselves by threats of physical harm from the State. That's inflicting starvation. If your neighbor refuses to grow food for you, he isn't inflicting starvation. If he refuses to suture your wound, he isn't inflicting bleeding. If he refuses to brush your teeth, he isn't inflicting cavities. Property becomes morally valid when the producer respects the freedom of others to likewise produce property of their own. The principles involved are established by his behavior (ie. demonstrated preference).
  9. It would depend upon how they were affected. The farmers aren't inflicting starvation. Morally superior according to whom and according to what metric?
  10. U.S. economy grew 0.1% in fourth quarter When even the phony, inflated government figures are that bad, you know the economy is in far worse shape. Of course, the truth is that the economy didn't grow at all; it contracted. The so-called growth is just government pissing money down the sewer.
  11. Pentagon Frets Billions in Sequester Cuts But Wastes $1.5 Trillion on Non-Working Fighter Jet Because of competing claims among service branches, the Marines, the Navy, and the Air Force all got their own, specially tricked out versions, each of which is dysfunctional in its own way: And there's this kicker: "If the F-35 order is filled, DOD will have 15 times as many planes as China." And 20 times as many as Russia.

  15. House report says 'big-ticket' conferences cost taxpayers $340M
  16. Greg, that was a pretty good analysis. Having grown up during the 70s and 80s, I also recall shows trending largely from wholesome to dysfunctional. I even used to enjoy watching the black and white sitcoms from the 60s on Nick at Night. I think that many of them are still shown on TV Land. I was recently encouraged to watch Arrested Development on Netflix by a co-worker and an acquaintance who said that it was among their favorite shows. I had no idea what the show was about. I watched the first 6 episodes and didn't find it enjoyable at all.
  17. NYC cop said he was ‘dying to taste some girl meat,’ FBI agent testifies When they said 'serve and protect' he thought they meant serve for dinner.
  18. Given the current framework (the displacement of market justice by State-monopoly), the officer needed to be separated from civil society and confined because he posed a menace. In a voluntary society, it's doubtful that the market would tolerate "enforcers" cruising neighborhoods in seach of victims to violate or transients to pulverize. Criminality would be dealt with through a system of reputation and restitution. If you're asking me to speculate on how it might actually look, I think it would be outlawry without prisons. Under State-monopoly, violations perpetrated against victims are compounded by the fact that they are compelled to finance the incarceration of the aggressor. Murray Rothbard made this observation in The Ethics of Liberty.

  22. Have you? I suspect not. Your posts tend to consist of sanctimony and snubs. I didn't ask you to quote me a paragraph in a book in which the author speculated on a study; I asked you to reference some evidence. How does the author, or the study, define normal upbringing, neurological problem, or neurological difficulty? You're simply taking it for granted that they define those things the same way that you do. It's possible that a physiological aberration could impair a child in such a way that he/she is unable to restrain impulse. However, the evidence suggests that violent tendencies in children result from abuse and neglect. How many cases are you aware of in which children were uncontrollably violent despite being in the care of loving, nurturing parents who never yelled at, degraded, or hit them?
  23. Please reference a single documented case of a child raised in a loving, nurturing home, free of abuse and neglect, who was unable to restrain his/her aggression and impulsivity.
  24. Lack of sleep 'switches off' genes
  25. John Kerry says Americans 'have a right to be stupid' and tells how he lost his diplomatic passport at age 12 after sneaking out to Soviet-controlled East Berlin in 1950s Except that dissent isn't tolerated. Well, it looks like I found a theme song for John Kerry. [view:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SMhwddNQSWQ:640:390] You can listen to Obama's themse song here.
