Work motivation and the joy of not being attacked.
A4E replied to Alvaro Bernardes's topic in Self Knowledge
Punished for getting bad grades sounds absolutely awful. Almost always when I would talk about my interests and goals, I got beat down psychologically.- 3 replies

SPOILER ! Half way through I wanted to downvote your post, quit internet entirely, and burst into flames simultaneously.

dsayers post covers most of it. My parents did this for 35-40ish years. Even when I was about 6 (starting to think), I was wondering WTF is their deal??? In a real mutual respect and love based relationship, where both understand that the relationship is the most important, this is like snow for a kangaroo. One way of trying to solve any annoyances or issues, (if it is significant enough), is to calmly ask the other to sit down together without any disturbances, and have a peaceful conversation where both can tell the other what they think, feel, and would like the other person to do differently. This can of course be very scary for a lot of people because it is something they rarely if ever saw or did before. When it is done in a formal and thorough way like this, chances are that both will remember what was said. This means that both can now not claim that they did not know how the other felt about it. And so if both recognize that it is in the best interest of the relationship to respect the feelings and wishes of the other, then the issue can be solved as long as the motivation / incentive is there, which is a good relationship. If the issue then does not get solved, there might be a bigger issue beneath, and then there is no use yelling / conveying the concern further. In my experience, people who are prone to complain about everything and everyone in most settings, also do this to a partner, which raises tensions and frustration, and overall poisons the relationship. That is one example of a bigger issue beneath. Also if one says "I am truly sorry that I am annoying you with this, but it is impossible / very hard for me to change it.". Then the other should respect that it feels that way, even after the other have suggested alternatives or whatever.

The interview was awesome, the OP post here is awesome. There are like 162 reasons to donate. My life improved immensely from FDR, but also, a week after I started donating, perhaps the best thing ever in my life happened. Correlation is not causation, but it was the right thing to do to start donating, so I felt better, and that might have helped. When I think about it, I will probably never stop donating no matter what, since I would feel bad about it, which could in turn make waves into my future.

Wow. That is awesome.

I can vouch for those listed above here. The James Foley video might have looked like him, but it was not him. Face different. Voice different. And several other tricks point to fake. For anyone who never went into sceptic mode and spent some time researching, I know these things sound nuts. You are getting the conclusions which is asking you to start on the tenth step, instead of the first one. Because I know it sounds nuts, and I know that FDR staff are likely seeking to alienate people like me and Torero, I am choosing to mostly keep quiet about these things. I admire Toreros fierceness, but for every post he makes I am hoping that he does not get banned / shunned. It would be better, and possibly the only way, if FDR, and people generally, realized it on their own accord. The grim reality is that these events and other future staged events will work, and treated as real in the moment, and in history, as long as the state backed propaganda machine is in place. And whats worse, is that if more people or FDR staff would also become "nuts", it is likely that they would be attacked just as other "nutjobs" (like me and Torero), which probably will not help draw people to recognize and respect the principles we need for a peaceful society. That is another reason why I do not see much point in preaching "nuttiness". There might be a "tipping point", like with the conspiracy theory of organized crime. Sooner or later it might become self evident. Or as with Gulf of Tonkin, accepted staged event. It is good that FDR are using the opportunities to draw people to principles, and I just don't want to disturb them either. It might possibly help if more people realized that they were being played / manipulated by staged events, but I find that notion increasingly harder to believe. Which is why I have sort of given up on that, and thereby also not researched the more recent events. It feels like fighting a boss in a game, by always focusing on destroying the minions that are spawning from it, rather than the boss.

I suggest a way to deflate this whataboutery. A standard response like this: "Right, that is exactly why we need to talk about this. Great, we are on the same page!". Might work in 80% of all cases or more. I see that Will Torbald touched on it while I am making this post. A thousand foreigners are to be arrested for group fondling 60 women in germany on new years eve. "Yes, but what about women being stoned to death or hanged after being raped in foreign countries?" -Right, that is exactly why we need to talk about this. Great, we are on the same page! I guess that one was easy, but just try yourself on the other examples and you will see. (edit: My initial source on the germany new years eve incident was misinterpreted)

[YouTube] The Truth About The Oregon Rancher Standoff
A4E replied to Freedomain's topic in New Freedomain Content and Updates
Thank you ! -
The principles need to be recognized and respected in the minds first, and then results will appear virtually by themselves.

I got some ideas while reading this thread. One is that we can leave comments on videos of popular channels on youtube, with something relevant to the video, like ie "The x in this video is different from what freedomainradio has to say about this. I will have to think about this." or "I am glad I don't have to worry about x anymore after stumbling upon Stefan Molyneux" Doesn't have to be worded like that, but the goal is for the author of the (popular) channel to look into the names, and in so doing might get to know the principles required for a peaceful world. And then hopefully spread that message on their channel. Also lots of the video watchers will see the comment and might start brush fires of their own. Linking or blatant advertizing will not work, as it is repelled by most channels. It has to be done in a casual non imposing manner, which means a reflected text that is somewhat related to the video. This same casual mentioning can be applied in all areas of internet, like facebook. I agree with the general sentiment here. And the messages from peaceful truth loving people is gaining more and more ground slowly but surely. Without internet this would have been somewhat impossible. Internet is not old, and I would regard it as something in its teens. Its full potential is far from reached, and I would say it is truth's best friend so far.

Very interesting and arranged nicely! Really great! The "solar system" intro was only referenced once, and I had trouble understanding the relevance when put up against the main parts of the video, though I sorta get it. I am patient but felt an urge to skip the intro, (but did not), however I imagine a lot of people would feel an urge to skip from the intro.

I can not make any sense out of your post Rosstronic. I suspect a drug might be involved in the creation of it. Though you mean well. I will not take the post serious. Also you should note that the topic of determinlsm is not allowed by default here.

My view and life exactly. Great article!

That video changed my view on black holes as well many years ago. It was never explained to me how black holes worked logically / rationally, so it makes sense that it is probably incorrect, just like dark energy and dark matter. Those theories primary goal seem to have been to back up the preexisting theories of the universe (like the black hole theory). I understand that it can be helpful to make theories, and that I too might have problems making any good theories, but I think emotional investment and other issues with science, is just as prevalent in the cosmology field. I posted that video on an ordinary forum many years ago, asking if someone related to the field could debunk him so that I could perhaps go back to believing in the black hole. One such poster wrote "It is easy for an educated person to see what mistakes he is making, but it would take too long to explain them."

Climate change will be a direct cause of hate speech.

I think you have a computer and internet at your disposal to make videos or podcasts about those things too. I would probably want to see any videos you make or have made, since you seem to be energetic. Welcome.

ABC.net.au: Is having a loving family an unfair advantage?
A4E replied to Copper_Heart's topic in General Messages
Here are some possible reasons for this article: 1. The author and ABC are apparently paid from theft, and perhaps they are trolling on purpose to be entertained by all the non / lightly moderated comment reactions that have followed. They can have fun with such things since they know that they are not going to lose their job no matter what they put up. 2. The author and ABC are good guys, and also smart enough to direct a kind of false flag attack on the family, to make people react strongly to the perceived attack, and thus defend the family. And which will also spawn threads like these to further increase a focus on the importance of a caring family. This means that the article is making the world more peaceful. (I see some pretty obvious clues that this might be the case) 3. The author and ABC are located in a parallel universe, and are not aware of it yet. -

Agnosticism
-
Do atheists now need to go declare their disability benefits that will be collected from theists?
-
On wiki for Agnosticism, section 1.3 (types) you can read about strong and weak. Is that what you are looking for? There is also agnostic atheism, also called atheistic agnosticism. And there is nontheism.

Lets say for the sake of conversation about this statement, that a god does not exist. Could you please describe how life is then meaningless?

In ordinary forums, people drag you down into the mud with them. In the FDR forum, people help you up from the mud with them. In the past I was frequenting an ordinary forum, and I am very sure that my life in general suffered from it.
