This is an interesting strawman you are constructing tjt. Comparing the likes of downvoting to actual abuse. That is a pretty bold claim if you will reconsider. And probably deserves some further reflection. You see many people that get downvoted have often already been told the error of their thinking. But rather than go,'oh yeah, you got a point'. They rather double down on their error still further. I for one have zero interest in explaining my voting decisions (if I make any) to individuals such as that or to any third party for that matter. That said, there will always be individuals that will use the voting system to punish people for disagreements. This is unavoidable frankly. But as has been said in pains earlier throughout this thread and others on the topic. Compared to the previous board, the advantages have been distinctly positive overall. That may have been before your time perhaps, but still. I would really ask the more thoughtful board members to read through this thread more thoroughly and others on the same topic if it really bothers them. Because it gets rather frustrating having to re-iterate the same points that have been made a number of times already. But also maybe, just maybe there could be something useful one might learn about oneself in the process. Peace.

Fortunately none of the gay men or bi sexual men and women I know would find this acceptable. That said 'Pride' has been co opted by leftists for some time now. And Men's issues are considered as the antipathy of leftists ideals. On a funny aside, many years ago I went to a Pride event in London and a rather acid tongued gay friend said of the droves of straight women at the event. "Oh yes, here come the fag-hags to drool over naked man flesh" EDIT - On an interesting aside, it looks like yet another classic takeover of a male space. Pride was initially always known as 'Gay Pride' and whilst never exclusively a male event, the space quickly became adopted by women from all sides of the spectrum. These days almost dominating the event. Given the event was largely a reaction to the Stonewall riots, where being gay was a criminal offence. Lesbianism has never been illegal, at least not in the west as far as I can tell. Which only extends my position that many women see male spaces as either having to include women or to be banned or shamed out of existence altogether. Meanwhile women get to enjoy their women only spaces with relative impunity.

June my blessed flower.. All of that was entirely predictable. Use a bleedin dictionary.
-
Fraud as opposed to lying my dear June is a very specifically deliberate infraction on a persons reputation. Let's get the definitions in order here.

Yea I think wuzzums makes an interesting point. Unless you have a wife called Anita that can call on the troubling tropes in your game design, then it might work J/K But seriously, from the small amount of business acumen I learned in my 20's. You probably should be sourcing a variety of avenues. Greenlight on Steam looks like a very promising prospect for gaming startups and Steam seem to be very supportive of this development. When a market is saturated, then it's always better to go for the cheaper option I find. In gaming terms I would imagine mobile games to be potentially the most profitable and the least costly for a fledgling startup. But hey what do I know and maybe that was your plan all along. Also other than journalists how is your networking going amongst fellow gaming developers. I was a groundsman for some years and granted whilst not always the most interesting of bed fellows (dem that dig holes), I always made an effort to chat and break bread with my competition. It often led to different and un-imagined opportunities elsewhere. Despite the rumours, successful businessmen always engage with their competition.

The analogy of sin is perhaps the best explanation I've heard for rape culture. We are sinful by our very own flesh. Feminists use shame as a consistent method of keeping men in their place. Sin and shame are completely interchangeable here. Thanks James.

Second guessing my decision to go to college, which starts this Fall

An alternative view to the debt hole they call education these days. -
I stand corrected, you estimated that 14 points out of 23 were poorly made. So we're back to where we started. So it's only you that gets to set the standard. Everyone elses standards are clearly wrong.
-
Well, it doesn't particularly matter where I think you are being inaccurate or not. It's not particularly relevant. None of us have any complete control over how people rep us. Some may consider a good argument I make deserves a -1 and others a +1 and still others who don't rep it at all. The people on that thread made their rep decisions as they saw fit. There standards I gather are higher than yours. Insofar as you estimate that 11 out of a total 23 minus points were poorly given. But of course this is just your opinion. It's you that gets to decide what is insulting and what is a good or bad argument. Not individuals, as is the purpose of the reputation system.
-
I get it jacbot, you have a lower standard for what you consider as evidence or insulting.
-
I agree of course it isn't. It becomes trolling (and breaks forum rules too), by not providing evidence of that dishonesty. People are as free as a bird to criticise peoples arguments, so long as they can indeed provide a better argument or evidence to the contrary.
-
I agree. The boards have never been better. And yea the guy in the Gaza thread was insulting people left, right and centre. That would take a mountain of armour to not see it.
-
I agree with J William about the mindfulness they can provide. But mostly I remember the wild west days of the fdr boards when a troll thread just expanded to ludicrous proportions. And when the said troll was eventually banned, the uproar resonated for weeks in the community, months sometimes. Now they either attempt to regain their rep or they slink away.

Playing minesweeper Nathan? Don't credit these twits with anything beyond the first level of tetris.

This is not my Meetup, but is by a new organiser I have become acquainted with from Facebook. Anyone from the Benelux, North eastern France, north western Germany or Holland even, might find this Meetup doable. This is the Meetup page to join the event. (not Facebook) http://www.meetup.com/Freedomain-Radio/Brussels/1192212/ This is the Facebook Freedomain Europe Meetup group you might like to join to find out about future Meetups throughout Europe. https://www.facebook.com/groups/1437294796551188/ This is a Facebook group of a large and growing population of FDR listeners that discuss philosophy etc. (175 members so far) https://www.facebook.com/groups/FDR.Europe/

Any advice for a soon to be homeless lady?
PatrickC replied to CallMeViolet's topic in General Messages
If you are going to go homeless Violet, make sure you are around a lot of support. For instance there are three centres in the UK (not useful for you I know) that support single person homelessness well and offer a myriad of opportunities to help those that want to be helped. Maybe there is something similar in the US. Do some research and find out. I know because I have worked directly with homeless people for the past 6 years or more and I know the very best opportunities here in Britain. I have to think there is something similar where you live. All that said, I am sorry to hear about your situation and hope you manage to find some true support and a way to get back on your feet. All the very best. -
For those of you unaware, there is a rather large (and growing) European group of listeners on Facebook that you might like to join. Fairly hefty Scandinavian contingent too with their own calls together as well. https://www.facebook.com/groups/FDR.Europe/

Ha ha, my kindle ran out of juice for the first time for me during my regular tube commute. So it was quite delightful to read a great story like this in an otherwise fallacious little rag of a newspaper.

I saw this happen to at least 3 friends of mine in my 20's. Two of them even explained to me weeks before the pregnancy that they were planning to end the relationships too. Fast forward 16 years later. One is divorced and is rarely allowed to see his kids. One other is a workaholic and the other an alcoholic.
-
Hmmn, not really sure what you're experiencing. Sounds like a personal issue your end I'm afraid.

Place your cursor in your message box and then click 'quote' under the post you wish to quote. You can then delete the parts of that quote that didn't interest you. Leaving the quote you wished to respond too. Does that help? There is no need to copy paste quotes.
