Death threats jeopardize Men's rights conference
PatrickC replied to Frosty's topic in Men's Issues, Feminism and Gender
But aha, NAFALT as you probably already know. Which actually Elam brought up quite well in a piece about NAFALT helping fund some the security arrangements. Feminists of all hues seemingly prefer to lambaste the MRA, than call out radical feminists. It's why I will never debate them of course, like creationists.- 18 replies

Yes, very interesting study. I was particularly struck by how competition seemingly fosters cooperation. Makes a lot of sense for me in my personal dealings with men over the years.

Death threats jeopardize Men's rights conference
PatrickC replied to Frosty's topic in Men's Issues, Feminism and Gender
Yes, a great cause Frosty... As it's been said and experienced before, 'male safe' spaces are considered a threat by some ladies and men even.- 18 replies

Barbar is worse than Stardusk. But that said, both these chaps have dominated the YTube market recently regarding MGTOW, whilst deliberately ignoring the real momentum behind their ignorance (and nihilism). Whilst I have no interest in politics myself, I can certainly see when people try to employ supposed 'apolitical' reasons to an idea. It has always been a classic leftist trick, even if it was an unconscious one for many of them perhaps.

Great insight Kevin. I suffered from depression for decades frankly and never realised that's what it was (at the time). Too busy finding ways to avoid the anxieties of course.

Lifestyle Choices That Make Others Surprisingly Angry
PatrickC replied to Magnus's topic in Miscellaneous
Yea, I ditched a mobile phone for almost 3 years and people complained about it, (but 'safely' from afar, for me).. I now realise (for me at least) I wanted to avoid contact with that world I existed in before. This was my way of avoiding contact without confrontation, (as i imagined it). I eventually realised I was avoiding stuff, (an historical consequence of course) by hiding in a cave of my own making. No idea whether that means anything to you Magnus, but I'm throwing it out there all the same. -
Yes, recently I've been listening and reading, too what to some is often considered the more darker side of the manonsphere, With authors such as Jack Donovan (The Way of Men) and Simon Shepherd (All About Women). Whilst I don't agree with all their positions they both have some really interesting things to say about masculinity and femininity. They don't associate directly with MGTOW or the MRA (MRM), but If you haven't read them already, I highly recommend them both for future reading.

Welcome to the boards Frosty. Yes I was aware of ideas around the concept of MGTOW were being discussed as far back as 2007, probably much earlier even. I remember listening to some quite old podcasts around that time. From my brief exploration it seemed to emanate from Australia mainly. Which wouldn't surprise me given the Leftist/feminist mentality over there. I would agree that for most guys MGTOW is not an ideology, that it's just a way of thinking and doing things for yourself primarily. I certainly don't mind using the tag myself. I just think there are some quarters where MGTOW is being shepherded ideologically, towards vulnerable men that haven't perhaps processed their relationships with women very well. That said I still find the most interesting content out there (bar philosophy) these days to be MGTOW. Some great thinkers too.

Chris Cantwell vs Stefan Molyneux debate?
PatrickC replied to Formelyknown's topic in Current Events
I don't want to get into much of a debate about this, since I remember the bad old days before the reputation system was implemented. But seriously, try imagining YouTube forcing you to write a review for every video you ever liked or disliked. The remedy is for the person being downvoted to ask why they were downvoted. Not for everyone to write a long winded reason as to why they voted, whether up or down. -
Yes the broader agenda I believe is that the state understands all too well that it is men that it fears most. Since men are mostly (if not always) the catalyst of change. Keeping men in as weak a position as possible keeps them from upsetting the states equilibrium.

Chris Cantwell vs Stefan Molyneux debate?
PatrickC replied to Formelyknown's topic in Current Events
Well the beauty of the reputation system is that there has been much less need for banning posters, as they mostly disappear by their own volition or they attempt to improve their reputation. That said, in all my years on this forum anyone that got banned unfairly was re-instated and the rest had it coming. -
As a FaceBook friend suggested after a Guardian article recently that she wrote at the weekend. "Jessica Valenti is right when she says: "The truth is that there is no such thing as a lone misogynist – they are created by our culture, and by communities that tells them that their hatred is both commonplace and justified." The community that teaches boys that hatred is both commonplace and justified is the same that considers it funny when people sell "Throw rocks at boys" to little children, and for legal professionals to call men "smelly boys"".. Hey, go figure Da link!

Whilst not minimizing the issue of domestic violence for men, it does seem to come from both sides of a relationship that engage in it. (Erin Prizzy) However, this video demonstrates rather well the 'white knight' phenomena. Those ladies defending her would never have gotten their mojo on in a real patriarchy, since they know there would be many a suitor that will come running to their defense. Which is why any guy understands all too well that he cannot defend himself physically from the violent assault of a woman in public.

I feel very 'privileged' that I found philosophy.

Yes, an awesome speech! EDIT - But sure he is a minarchist at best

Does the word racism hold any philosophical value?
PatrickC replied to fractional slacker's topic in Philosophy
Yes, 'sophistry' is a much better way to put it Fractional.. It was interesting to note a FaceBook meme going around in the UK regarding any friends considering to vote Ukip in today's European elections. The meme suggested that since you are obviously racists for voting for them, then please unfriend me. On the surface this is fine I guess, nothing wrong with people disassociating from folk that transgress your own (subjective) code, without violence of course. Except if this truly is the level of discourse when it comes to ethics, many people have a long way to go considering all manner of transgressions that these types barely address. But if all they desire is a momentary faux feeling of integrity, then of course, they should knock themselves out. -

Finally a lady that doesn't just rely on her looks, but actually provides information I never knew before in a superb presentation. Thanks for sharing! -
Seriously whilst I have some sympathy for you in this regard you just end up enabling these people further by continuing to engage with them. I'm with Mike on this issue. Born out of my own experience.

Chris Cantwell vs Stefan Molyneux debate?
PatrickC replied to Formelyknown's topic in Current Events
Yes, it's why I mostly find the FTL FSP mostly redundant. They are like the Tumblr for Libertarians. Always picking fights with poorly thought out ideas and consequences. -
Yes, thanks for highlighting that Meeri. After some research I did find a bus service right outside Farnham station that will take us to Frensham Great Pond in just over 10 minutes. Unfortunately as is often the case with these rural services, they only run once an hour. Which depending on peoples train arrivals at Farnham might mean a long wait at the station. That said, it might be affordable and more convenient to hire a cab perhaps, since it's such a short journey it probably wont be that expensive between us. Anyway, these are things we can decide on in time of course.
