Does the word racism hold any philosophical value?
PatrickC replied to fractional slacker's topic in Philosophy
I'd go as far as to say that the Left use these taboos as a form of faux ethics, as much as they use them to destroy the reputations of their enemies. The sheer importance that is laid upon them by many is a marvelous invention for getting people to not think about real ethics and create yet more slave on slave conflict. -
Chris Cantwell vs Stefan Molyneux debate?
PatrickC replied to Formelyknown's topic in Current Events
Yes, whilst FDR has had it's fair share of drama over the years, they have mostly been private and even the more public ones have been resolved quickly. Conflict is dealt with better here than any other community I've known. That's philosophy for you I guess. Like you, I'm really beginning to enjoy the community over the past year. Since the reputation system has been introduced it has encouraged the better individuals to engage and the trolls to slowly but surely slink away. I have very little interest in being too much involved in any other community that is not based (philosophically) on this one. -
good stuff Mele!

Hey Markus, just wanted to say that this is probably great advice from your father. Only hand out information to those are truly interested.. The only thing that really matters is not the political system we live in per se, since we have so little control over that. But rather the relationships and life that we currently enjoy! I look forward to your conversation with Stefan.

Great stuff Lians! Yes, I had some thoughts... Given the locations of people thus far, I was considering perhaps a walk in Frensham, Surrey. A rather steady 6 mile hike through rambling countryside. This should be fairly accessible for all of us. Not quite as hilly as me and Toms last trip over the South Downs. That said, only a thought at this stage. We may have better ideas of course. Anyway here is the link to the walk I had in mind.

Get Woody Harrelson on the show - he is an anarchist
PatrickC replied to GYre0ePJhZ's topic in General Feedback
One thing I've been thinking about celebrities and this show.. Let them come by all means, but let them come. -
Thanks for this Jonny.. It seems to be something my family has been diagnosed with.

Hey Markus, did you do a call with Stefan last Sunday.. I'm a little behind on the stream myself, but interested to know how it went for you.

Thanks for sharing Polly, what I assume is a most enlightening piece of journaling for you. Overcoming the shame of our history is often the last bastion of overcoming our false selves.

For UK listeners I have penned in a date as the 15th June (a Sunday), as a date in which I and a board friend are happy to host a call for those that are interested in meeting up, but perhaps they feel a little anxious about the prospect of first meeting in the flesh. Let me know your interest in such a call and add myself accordingly on Skype from my profile. I expect this to be gentle introduction for those that would like to become more acquainted, as well as an opportunity to discuss the best place and most convenient time and date to meet up. This call should run no further than perhaps an hour. We would like it to be activity led preferably, rather than just a sit down natter in a pub or cafe. From experience this has often been much more enjoyable, so any ideas are welcome. Anyway, that said I look forward to hearing from you.

Didn't realised that you missed your flight Lians. What a bummer, made worse by a long bus and ferry alternative. That said, it was great to meet you as much as it was Stef. Also the many other folk that I've hung out on the boards here or on Skype and a few new faces too boot. Thanks for sharing and look forward to meeting you again with some UK meets in the near future.

Ah, the endless and ongoing problem for the Leftist, they refuse to learn math and believe money really can grow on trees. I feel your pain brother.. Word of caution when dealing with Leftists. Never expect a reasoned argument and always be prepared for the inevitable emotional vomit (metaphor) when you confront them with reason. That way you'll be able to walk away knowing it has nothing to do with your ability to present reason, but everything to do with their own refusal to do so.

I had a little watch to remind me and she has indeed gotten worse. The incessant shaming tactics she employs on age old (mostly Leftist) positions. Not even a hint of irony as her titanic jugs strain against her clothing in almost every shot. My only conclusion is that she is a walking, talking version of the magazine Cosmopolitan. A teenage version of Blue Peter even. She could probably get a spot on the BBC.

If you were a feminist old chap, you should know that there would be no way of convincing you. Because you know you are right.

Chicago Meetup Planned for Saturday, May 10th
PatrickC replied to Melesina's topic in Meet 'n Greet!
Giving this a little bump for those in the Chicago area.. I know these events need all the help they can get. You will 'certainly' enjoy meeting likeminds! -
What can you say about Lacie.. Showing off hairy armpits aside, but she is a self proclaimed (sex positive) feminist.. As philosophers, we don't talk (or listen) with creationists, like feminists.

Personally only go to college if you're learning something productive, like engineering, accounting, software or a trade. Anything else will mostly be a waste of your time and could probably be learnt online in half the time. As to the money, like all the good advice here, take it. You're not stealing from anybody.

Now you're just trolling me.. This isn't a conversation anymore.

You know it's interesting, since I never suggested commitment was about sexual fidelity. Commitment is far more than just sex. It's about raising children. providing support and trust. As I say relationships are entirely voluntary and any obligations you place upon one another is entirely to their discretion. However, the evidence suggests that married people are happier than unmarried people. That married people are often wealthier than single people. Children thrive better with both parents and an extended supportive family. That said, I have been in dysfunctional relationships in the past, where all the above was true and indeed I ended those relationships as a result of that. To conflate that to 'all' relationships as being enslaving, then I can only assume that you have never had a deep bond with anyone and for that I'm truly sorry. On a final aside, there is nothing moral or immoral about relationships. In UPB terms you are free to choose any kind of relationship you like and always be free from any moral condemnation. That's exactly what I said was a possibility, in not so many words.

I think the best techniques that the PUA give out are the ones that get you to recognise and dump the flaky or bat shit crazy ones. That said with enough empathy skills, this should be a no brainer too. What with so many guys being brought up in single mother households, they just don't get the right guidance in this area. PUA is a kind of Lord of the Flies scenario as many young men end up listening to their peers. Rather than from successfully married older men. Well said MrCap!
