I always found it funny that some conversations do evolve to the childhood question, but never ha ha funny, let alone worth poking fun in this kinda way. It's not making fun of a specific caller, but it seems to be insulting all the callers who do used to call in for abstract subjects to cover up the childhood stuff they wanted to really unload about. Empathy, bro. Empathy.

I wasn't too affected by it. I just thought if he was willing to stop his subscription just because of one unsatisfactory show, that was his own decision to make. It was a bit of an insult to upholding the chatroom, the board, the podcast feed, feeding the dudes who help Stefan in the backgroud, as well as any possible connections you've made with FDR members outside of the site (like on Skype or Facebook). What made you feel this way, Austin? What was going on for you that night? And why was it expressed in this way?

but what about Korn? Jonathan Davis is one of the most emotionally charged lyricist, at least for the first 6 albums. He sings and I think he still gets the emotion and anger out right. Barely ever will he do a scream or growl, but when he does, it's in good measure which makes me appreciate it more.

Bad Parents - The Disease of Human Rot

ugh dude...I watched a few seconds of some without sound. It's too horrifying. I'd rather not seek out more videos like these. This shit just pisses me off. I'd rather focus on solutions. -
I don't think it's a moral thing or not, more like aesthetics, but what are your thoughts on rock bands charging their fans for meet and greets?

Hey thanks for the elaborate response! I haven't gotten around actually checking them all out just yet but I get a basic idea. Yeah I dunno. Sorry if this is repetitive of me, but I understand how much of an acquired taste it can be. I have some new music that has very minimal screaming, but there's something about primary screaming and growling that I can't wrap my head around anymore. Like I get it's supposed to emphasize the aggression or power of that part of the lyrics, but it's kinda like... To me it's like an action flick where it's non stop bullets and bloodshed for an hour and a half, without so much of a break to build on the narrative of the movie. You need that breath of fresh air, and those seem to be far and between for some screamy bands. The breath of fresh air I guess can be the incredible instrumental breaks, but then the growling comes back and I can't seem to stand it anymore. I forgot what it was like to be on that side of things where screaming and growling was wholly preferred and accepted rather than required with little to no use for me. I'm just starting to prefer melody over the instrumentation rather than a distorted voice that may or may not be decipherable in terms of content. And yeah growling IS fun...I still do it from time to time to ruin soft songs for fun lol. I don't put it in my music anymore because I would get out of breath real fast and get pain in my throat (I know I never learned how to do it without the strain) and since the case of Alexisonfire, Killswitch Engage, Trivium, and All That Remains--and my own songs--I would always look forward to the clean parts to contrast the noise. Then I finally realized what I really like IS the clean parts and wanted to search for more music like that and write more songs where I can actually play and sing the same time. I know it doesn't always have to be lightning fast riffs with screaming, but it's how I used to write until I found such joy in slowing things down and singing soft enough to hit some proper notes.

Yeah I hear ya, I appreciate your thoughts, Yagami. When I start my job next week, I'm overdue for another donation, it's been a while. It's kinda of like...the people who listen for free and come to the boards or chatroom all for free are being subsidized by the ones who have paid up to help this place stay in tact. And FDR is the best way to spread the word because, although there are peaceful parenting practices elsewhere, to have it backed up with philosophical reasoning, it's a lethal weapon against evil.

K I'll just follow in the principles then, but next year I'll start fresh when Im done the 3rd draft of my current book and have it published by then I hope.

I'm already 43,000 words into my 2nd draft, but I will be applying the principles of daily writing starting tommorow does it have to be a fresh new novel or can I sign up with what I have so far, have that tracked, and get the community benefits?

Just a little update on me. I've let my Xboxlive subscription expire in the first half of this month. Correlation isn't causation, I get that, but personally for me, I've been able to get a job that I start next week I could have sworn that the boredom I had the night I went out to apply to places, if I had my subscription, I would've just played all night because it's so much easier to pick up the controller and enter a lobby to play a "couple of rounds" that eventually turns into an all nighter. Instead of course, I seeked new interactions that would provide me new possibilities and really quickly, I got an interview a week after applying, got called back the next day, and bam! Got the job Without games, I've been having more Skype calls with FDR members, going out with friends, more reading and writing done. I look forward to getting back into gaming, but not after some hard work and making money, as well as completing the 2nd draft of my novel. The time I would be spending towards video games (which were almost countless on some days) is the time I spend now connecting with people and getting more important things done that improve my human capital. I mean I was already having philosophical conversations with people during the games, but it was hit or miss whether or not they were in that mood or the right people were online. So why not intentionally have them with those who pursue philosophy and sel knowledge on purpose?

Yeah, I get it could be a ton of attention seeking, especially if you're covered in tats all over your body. But what do you make of more inconspicuous tattoos? I have an acquaintance who got a Heath Ledger Joker tattoo on his calf. He said he wanted to remember the time in his life where he watched The Dark Knight. Can't remember what was going on for him at the time, but it sounded positive, and that the movie was something that toppe off the good times, so he just wanted to commemerate it. When I asked him if he was so sure that was a good idea, since skin does sag and wrinkle, he was absolutely thrilled to let the tattoo wrinkle and age along with him. I'm probably not doing his explanation justice, that is my paraphrasing of what he said. On the flip side though, there was this girl who used to work at my local cafe who had a crucifix tattoo on her forearm that read "love is suffering." Uh...I probably don't have to explain how twisted that is. My brother even questioned her on it, and she spouted on about how Jesus' suffering for us sinners was the most loving thing possible and no other can love top that. That would warrant me tugging on the collar of my shirt to let some nervous air out. I found it interesting that that was her idea of what love entailed. I've talked to her a lot, probably not enough to know her truly, but depsite of that weird belief, she still seemed pretty nice and beaming with positivity all the time. She sings for a Christian rock band and seems well enthused by how much meaning doctrine based music gives her XD With those cases in mind, do you think the size, amount, and conspicuousness is a way to measure one's attention seeking? Because before it gets to the point of being completely covered in them, can't tattoos just be an artistic expression of not just the tattoo artist, but an image that means something to a person that I just like to have on their body as a reminder of a time in their life, or a principle they live by? Where is the line drawn? Why is having pierced ears okay, but the nose not so much? Or the lip, or cheek? (The cheek really eludes) I'm just wondering now if location, location, location, is a measure to how much someone is traumatized and seeking attention. That's interesting. So it might be that modern tattooing could be an artform that is an expression of rebellion against subsidized art. That's another aspect of tattoos and piercing; rebellion. Rebellion against modernism by continuing tribal traditions of inking one's body. You bring up a good point James, about the pain received being voluntary and not that different as exercise or getting hair waxed off. I wonder if anyone had any arguments that could contest that, because right now I'm leaning towards this line of thinking. It is their body, we all own our bodies and could do with them as we please, and we are bound to give it some amount of pain for aesthetic appeal in some way or another. You could argue that the short term pain of exercise gives the long term benefit of health, but with a tattoo and piercing, in a way, yes, it's vain to accept an amount of short term pain for long term self aesthetic expression. I know that exercise provides aesthetic AND health benefits so would the absence of health improvements be what knocks tattoo off that category of neccessary short term pain for long term pleasure?

I call him the Horndog. He cock blocks Casanova from letting me speak smoothly to women.

LOL yeah it's spread like an awesome inside joke among us. It's an easier to identify what's going on when I'm distracted by beautiful women in my viscinity.
-
Ah yes I love this approach! Because getting a haircut or lengthening your hair can't always be some kind of vain thing, nor would be gelling it. We do also have to present ourselves to a world that unfortunately does have to judge us like the covers of books. Life is short. You can't get to know everybody's personality one on one and so appearance does invite certain type of people.

The Way of the Superior Man

Yeah never sacrifice purpose for pussy. I think that's what the problem is with some white knights and another dudes. They haven't found a worthy pursuit to fulfill their lives with. Women like a man who's driven and ambitious. His love is important, but what's more important is his ability to work for his resources that will provide for her. -
